Smok Mag P3 Appreciation Thread

After considering a bunch of other dual-18650 mods it turned out it was a Good Thing that 1. I had a hard time making a decision and 2. When I thought I had, my favourite stores didn't have in stock what I thought I wanted, because along came the Smok Mag P3:

I like everything about this mod. The size, the form factor, my particular mod's colour scheme, the touch screen, everything. It checks all the boxes, for me, including having a cool-looking display that's readable in full sunlight! Having already knocked one mod to the floor (it survived), I like that it's water, dust and impact resistant.

I would note it's a fairly heavy mod, quite large, and optimized for right-handers. So if you're looking for something pocketable, or are a southpaw, this might not be the mod for you. Some people might not care for the scrolling menu unlock display. It doesn't bother me.

Another note: The battery door must be closed "with authority." Make sure you hear that *click*. But once it latches, you'll know it. It releases easily with the somewhat recessed push-button, but I doubt you could release it accidentally.

The touch screen is working wonderfully for me, even with the protective screen film still in place.

I bought the kit, which included a TFV16 tank. Boy, this tank is a beast. But I do like the way it vapes. Will the TFV16 displace my HorizonTech Falcon Kings as my favourite tank? Only time will tell.

Its always great to find so much you like about a mod when you get it. You like it when you buy it but then you receive it and its so much better than expected. Congrats on the great find.

I just got mine today from VaporL for 33 bucks. Mod only. This does look to be a great mod. The rubber armor is a bit thicker than on the Aegis Legend and is smooth, but grippy. The palm and front finger pieces are made out of a different material, which is also smooth, but grippy, but also is slightly padded too. The slots give it some extra positive grip.

I already have experience with this touchscreen and chipset from my Morph. Very very good indeed. The touchscreen is at least 90% as responsive as the AMOLED screen on my Galaxy S10. Snappy and accurate. Interface is a breeze if you've played around with regulated devices and still easy for a beginner with a bit of instruction. Totally different than the Nuvoton chips on past Smok mods. Which I didn't have any real problems with, but this chip is much better.

The battery door is SNUG and easier to get open than closed. Push a button and pop. It snaps open. Yes, it must be closed with some "authority" because of the seal.

I doubt if this mod is as durable as the AL, but I'm betting it IS as durable as the AX, which also has a large touchscreen. The screen will obviously be the weak point, but it should be fine except under some pretty extreme treatment.

One of the biggest things for me is that this is the first Smok mod I've had with a screw anchored 510 connection. If there was one thing I thought Smok really did need to improve rather badly, it was that press fitted 510. It didn't fall apart SUPER easy, but it also wasn't the heartiest either. About time.

Overall this mod will fall into the WAY above average durability range and would be good for somebody who works in a dirty occupation where getting bounced around would be inevitable and who likes a definitely FULL sized mod with all the power and features to have on that job. It should take 30mm attys without overhang.

I've been somebody who liked Smok stuff and thought they got an overly bad wrap, which isn't the same as saying some of it wasn't deserved though too. There is a distinct upswing in their build quality the last 8 months to a year.

However, my beat up almost 2 year old Procolor is still kickin like day one :)

Smok is not my first choice in mods. However my only Smok mod experience is a positive one. I had been given a Smok AL 85 that was 6 months old. I vaped it in regular rotation (out and about mod) for about a year and a half. About 6 months ago I pif'd it to a "vaping veteren" who's only post was in the pif thread ( a different story). I assume it is still kicking. So it served well. No complaints here.
Now I like their tanks when paired with corresponding rba decks. I have a BB, BBB, and Prince. IMO at their price point they perform very well. Again I mostly use the rba deck for each, but factory coils are also acceptable if you use good ones.
Very happy you found your happy place mod. If it pleases you that is all that matters. Do not let opinions jade your satisfaction with your daily driver.
Peace and love to you and yours.

This is my very first bit of Smok kit. I haven't been avoiding them so much as I never saw anything from them that tripped my trigger before now. This Mag P3 changed that in a major way. Everything I read and saw, everything, told me this was the mod for me. It just spoke to me. After 24 hours with it I'm so far loving the hell out of this mod. Can't say for anybody else, but it's perfect for me.

And btw: I had the thing out in full sunlight, winter sunlight, with snow on the ground nearby. Damned it the screen wasn't easily readable in that light. Nirvana!

I have other stuff I feel I need to acquire before the FDA's Deeming Rules kick in, otherwise I'd be looking to pick up another. I like it that much.

The TFV16 tank is still up in the air for me. I think I like it, but I think my Falcon Kings are still my favourite.

Anybody who has a Smok tank with a matching RBA deck available that hasn't tried the RBA deck, really should. Especially the BB or BBB. I also have the Prince and Cloud Beast with their RBA decks and while they do have their quirks, you really could do much worse.

However, the BB/BBB RBA is at least as good as dozens of good RTA's.

If I could change one thing about this mod it would be this: It would be handy if the current and voltage readings would hold until the screen timed-out.

It's always trendy to hate on Smok. I have had a Stick Prince and a Procolor and they all were good mods during my progression into vaping. I wanted one of those original Mags about a year ago but never pulled the trigger. Did they do away with the "ammunition" style clip release for the batteries? That was arguably one of the coolest features about the Mag series.

The magazine style battery sled was cool, but notoriously unreliable. As you can see I am not a Smok hater, but the latch hole in the magazine wore out and it wouldn't stay in. I rigged one up for somebody with a stiffer spring and it lasted several months but then the same thing. I found numerous posts online of people with the same issue.

The Mag P3 has a button controlled drop open door. It would be tough to maintain water resistance with the pistol type battery sled.

Sounds like it (P3) would be a great beater mod above all, especially if it proves to be as durable as the Aegis/Jackaroo.

The large touchscreen, which works awesome, will be the weak point. There I think the Aegis Legend and Jackaroo will have an edge. It is also not at all pocket friendly, but then again neither is the Aegis Legend and the Jackaroo, while the smallest of the three, is still not exactly super tiny either. . .

There are several YouTube videos of reviewers dunking them in water and beating them up. One of them did manage to destroy his, but he was doing things like throwing it up in the air and twenty feet away in an asphalt parking lot in the rain. Before he did that he did things like bounce it off a stone wall onto a concrete walkway, drop it from several feet into a puddle of water, etc. and it survived that stuff.
