I'm a glutton for punishment. I felt the need to put an RTA back in rotation

I've used the Kylin RTA for about 2 years, prior to learning about RDAs.

I got into RDAs in the beginning of 2018 and have grown quite a collection. I have spares at home, one for work, one for just sitting on the couch, etc. I love RDAs.

I tried squonking but hated every part of it.

I just am hesitant with RTAs because of the THOUGHT of leaking. My Kylin was pretty good as long as I wicked it right. I dug it out, but it still had coils and juice in it. I rinsed it off and soaked it in iso. I really didn't have the time to build it up but I rushed it today. i juiced it up and it hit really odd. Then I noticed juice near the AFC.

Nope.

SrE2xr.gif

Unscrewed it off my Legend and threw it into a plastic cup.

So what do I do at the end of this insane trip down nightmare lane?

I ordered a Augvape Intake Dual 26mm because it's supposedly "leak-proof." I won't hold my breath.

Happy New Year everyone.

Just curious, what does hate everything about squonking mean? Meaning hated pushing the bottle, or things went wrong you hated? I use rta's, rda's, both mtl and dl, and squonks daily. I throw them all in the same category. All have positives and negatives for me. But as far as squonks go, I have like alll the others, had some I love, some I hate, and some in the middle. The act of squonking doesn't bother me at all though. Just wondering.

I never found it to be more user-friendly or time saving vs. RDAs.

I can give you a list of the gripes I have with them but I don't want to turn this into an anti-squonking thread.

FWIW, I've sold one mod since I started, and it was the Desire Rage ;)

Ok, so what is the question of OP then? RTA recommendations?

Re-read 1st line, and fare enough, I could make a point for that as well.

Yeah.

Shit in one hand and wish in another?
Yup. I don't have a lot of experience with DL rta's, and imho that is for a reason. They don't beat dripping, or squonking. Lot of em I haven't tried so take it for what its worth. Big AF, big clouds, big flavor, I just don't do rta's for that. Just me though.....

Yep. I probably won't use the Intake much but at least there's hope for it.

to me, squonking is more user friendly. far easier to wick, no chance of breaking glass and vastly less chance of leaking.
RTA's are love/hate for me. i mean wicking = between leaking and dry hits, can be a fine line.

i have an single coil Intake, its a somewhat tight DL, but i just love it. no leaking, but, it can be flooded.

Some of my favorite RTA's this past year have been the Reload and the Fatality M25. I've never had any leaking problems with them, but as bottom airflow RTA's, they do still have that risk of course.

My RTAs give me no trouble. Even the ones with JFC, I leave them wide open all the time. I don't get leaking. I've read that some of the Kylin tanks can be a bitch to get the wicking right though.

I vape everything. I mean every style, I'll do it. Subohm tank, some with RBAs, RTAs, RDAs, ect., it's all variety to me. Some are more convenient, some vape better than others..

What I don't do, or dont want to bother with is dripping e-juice. Squonking all the way for me. I don't have any trouble really with my squonk mods. Even on my Profiles, they squonk great. I know some people have trouble with those. I've found that mastering the wicking part of rebuildables, provides less troubles or vaping woes.

No problem with RTA's for me either as long as i pay attention to what i'm doing and wick them right.
I squonk at work because it's more convenient and i have a refill bottle loaded every day.
I only drip at home when i'm trying a new recipe. Much easier to change out the cotton and not have to clean a squonk bottle if the juice sucks!

Yeah , I wish I found squonking to be preferable to good old RDAs but I do not.

I remember refilling my Rage and Pulse 80 with the bottles and still having juice on the top of the mods to clean off. I’m a pretty neat nut job so it kept driving me insane. That coupled with the almost lack of decent dual battery squonk mods pushed me right out of that game.

I don’t mind dripping at all and I try and buy RDAs with deep juice wells so I can go 5-8 long drags before dripping again.

Different strokes man.

I've had pretty good luck with newer RTAs, but older ones have sometimes given me fits. Most specifically, the Herakles RTA, omg I hate that thing with a passion. And two Prince tanks with RBAs in them, couldn't build those things for shit. Kayfun V4 clone, ack! I think that's the one I finally let fly across the living room. Could not get it to vape without giving dry hits.

I'm like @Just Frank a bit, though, I'll vape just about any kind of device, as long as it isn't scorching hot. I've lived through a few hits on my son's mods at 80-90 watts, but wouldn't want to vape like that consistently. I don't love going through juice and batteries that quickly if it isn't necessary, and to me, it isn't.

Don't like a dual-coil atty as much as a single, but have found that a dual has its place. Trick is learning how to judge what kind of build to use, especially if you're impatient and ramp-up time drives you crazy like it does me. That's probably the time when higher wattage really is necessary, dual coils with a lot of metal, takes some oomph to get and keep 'em going! Not for me, thanks. :)

I also drip to test flavors. That's the only way as far as I'm concerned. Would be even better if I'd consistently use rayon - you can vape flavors right out of rayon pretty easily.

I don't have a dual, but sure have never had a drop of leaking out of my regular Intake.

If the dual is designed anything like the regular, though, I think you might be disappointed in the airflow. The og Intake is definitely restricted DL. I can use it with the airflow wide open, whereas on my Zeus X and my Rimfire I barely have the air open at all.

The Rimfire is a hoss of an RTA but is hard to find now. I wish I'd bought more than one. Not nearly as picky as the Zeus X to build. Air can go from very restricted to way, WAY more air than I'd ever want, and the flavor is fantastic. It doesn't get the attention it deserves.

You guys have this zen thing down . I tried and tried and TRIED to get along with my 2 Kylins , one was a gift , sadly I could not get them right . EVER !! One met it"s demise by means of my 4 lb sledge . The other was passed on to a friend who threw it out his car window while on the highway . But I salute you guys who enjoy working on all of these beasts , all of you guys that take the time and put infinite effort into making these hell sent pieces live up to their hype .

I'm with you and your friend.

I've realized I have no attachment to my original Kylin and it's pissed me off more than serve me well. They're cheap enough where it doesn't feel like it's a bad thing. Time = money. and that co*ksucker has wasted enough of it.

IN THE TRASH YOU GO.

This thread inspired me to challenge myself. I've had a bunch of Ijoy tanks since a Black Friday sale in 2018. I've read that one of them is tricky. I got out the Exo XL and one of these puppies-

I was half way confident I'd gotten it right... NOPE! Leaked.. I made an adjustment, it leaked again. Lol I'll try it agan tommorow. I think I know what's going on. I may have trimmed my tails a little short.

But also dealing with this-

The tails get wet and are aweful close to those airflow tubes. I'll get it down pat tho. I took some drags while I could and the flavor was very decent.

Cylon FTW. This March will mark 2 years of use wit my Cylon. It's my daily/work mod. What a tank, even though the battery door is a little fucky. It's never been an issue.

Mine's been super too. Smoant makes some good mods. I didn't get the Charon Mini or Ranker but want them. Naboo is a good one. I thought no buttons would lead to trouble but it hasnt.

Somewhere on VU there is a post that gets down into the weeds with the EXO. I remember reading it, but not a clue who or where. It's been a while.

What if you pulled the wraps in your coil farther apart? Made the whole coil wider?

SURELY YOU JEST!!! :D I love the RTA 2 anyway.

You might maybe be thinking of my long post about the Ijoy Limitless XL. A hellish nightmare to learn how to wick.

Honestly, I don't have any real problems with RTAs once I learn how they want to be built and wicked. It can take a couple times with some of them, but once you get the personality dialed in, no problems from there.

I am more convinced than ever that my beloved Hugsvape Lotus may never be dethroned as my all time fav. I still have 3 in rotation after a year.

@gismit1 i need to get my lotus back into the rotation now that you mention it lol. Great little atty...just have a preference to the Reload and Blitzen rtas. Still, I need to get the lotus out for a drive. :D

That's the way it is with my wotofo bravo. Get the wicking right and it's a decent rta. They're not crazy flavor attys but they work. I feel like if I can wick this and not have a leak, I can wick anything.
