Kanthal Clapton Help

for years I did 5 wraps of 26ga dual coil, approx. .25 ohms. Now with decks being bigger than they used to be I can use twisted 26ga and get the same result. I want to try Clapton because it seems like a majority say it produces better flavor than twisted so I want to compare.

I ordered some 28*2/32 fused clapton wire, and it gave me a .4 ohm dual coil build. I just don't like how .4 vapes compared to .25. There is a difference IMO.

I'm about to order from fasttech, and with the insane wait for delivery I'd just as soon order a bunch of stuff so I'm not tempted to go back there anytime soon.

If I order 26*2/32 fused clapton, will this wire get me closer to my .25 ohms in a 3mm dual coil setup? Thank you

With an ID of 3mm, 5 wraps, here's what steam-engine.org says, per coil (wrap at 32ga):

yeah I looked at that, but comparing what that calculator spit out on builds I already make I didn't trust the numbers. Maybe I was entering something wrong

but I guess I wouldn't be too far off those numbers, so I could order half a dozen rolls of that wire and not worry I would end up with wire I wouldn't use. Thanks

My personal opinion is that, if you can find it, 28x3/38 will give you even better flavor and a more durable coil. That works out to 0.411 per coil, so in reality if resistance is a little above that, it should put you pretty close to 0.25 for the build. Maybe just try one roll? The tri-core wire I ordered made a believer out of me, but mine is N80.

I highly recommend thin wrap wires on claptons. Thicker wraps like 32g makes the coil heat slowly and cool slowly and uses noticably more battery power. Heating slowly drains the battery faster, cooling slowly causes juice to cook onto the coil, meaning more frequent dry burning and rewicking. I don't tend to see this issue very much with 38-40g wrap wire though.

for that matter I am completely happy with how twisted 26ga vapes. I just wanted to see how Clapton compared for flavor and coil durability.

I use 28x4/40 and 28x3/40. For me, the claptons blows the twisted out of the water. Both coils, as long as they are made of the same size cores, should be fairly equal in durability. I always found twisted to spit juice at you a lot. At first, both seemed close in performance, but over time Claptons just offered better flavor for a much longer time.

Again, this is my personal experience, yours may be different being as we all have our individual preferences.

Totally agree about the spitting and popping from twisted wire. I like 28x3/38 N80 best of any wire I've used.
