What is your best atomizer for testing your Mixes?

I like to really taste the flavors in my mixes. To that end, I began to search out the best atomizer for tasting. Using my tanks was too cumbersome. I gathered that it had to be small chambered, have easy to reach cotton, designed for single coil use,and have enough air to lung hit. The Igo-W fit the bill after I drilled out one hole to 3/64th inch. The flavor was good and it worked fine until I ran out of O-rings. That thing is tough on them. I began to search again and came upon the Atomic replica by Ehpro. It is an older device and known to be made for flavor chasers. I found one on eBay for $14.95 and ordered it.

It is a tiny device even, smaller than the Igo, and seemingly made for a 20 watt mod. Plenty of airflow and an inner chamber about the size of a small marble. Not an easy build in such a small space but I got it done. I wrapped a single coil to 1.2 ohms. I wanted to use it on my iStick. It works very well. Where the Igo-w's flavor production was almost as good as my tanks, the Atomic's is better than the tanks.

I am extremely happy with it, but being always on the search for "better flavor" I thought I would ask if you had any suggestions. Are you happy with the way you are doing it now?

I enjoy several rta's for flavour chasing. They include billow, orchid and lemo. I use the igo for testing new diy liquids. But because I am too busy to continually drip I prefer the convenience of the tanks.

I got a tiny little bridgeless drippin g atomizer that I planned on using just for tasting but it was too much of a pain to clean it out every time so now it just sits in a drawer. I would think any dripper would work though. You can just pull out the cotton, give it a quick clean and put some more cotton in and you're good to go for your next taste.

I have the same problem (to busy at work and such) to drip all the time. I mostly use my tanks. Dripping is a pain as far as I'm concerned except for taste testing.

I test my mixes in what I vape with, Nautilus. If the juice isn't good enough for my tank, it's not good enough period.

The problem with most dripping atomizers is that the chamber is too large and the airflow to great to hold the flavor together, unless, you are cloud chasing at the same time. I've heard cloud chasers say they have no flavor loss due to the volume of juice they use. I don't know.

I misunderstood the OP. I thought the question was what to use for "tasting" small amounts when doing DIY. However the Venturi dripper I have is a flavor chaser and also holds about 20 or more drops.

It has a chimney like a kayfun. And a deep juice well so that you don't have to keep on dripping every two minutes. I'm loving it. The original goes for over $100 but I got a clone for $8. ;<))

No, none at all, I was skeptical because of the price but it's great, don't even need to use the o-rings that came with it, doesn't leak. Arrived in three days. It's dual coil only. I've built it four times already with no problems. Works like a charm. It doesn't come assembled but you can easily find a youtube video to walk you through putting it together, nothing complicated. And it has adjustable airflow that you can adjust just by twisting your drip tip. Plus it's a breeze to drip. You just take the drip tip off and drip right into the chimney, badabing badaboom. Definitely worth a lousy eight bucks. The shipping is five bucks though but still, for what you're getting, $13 is better than $130.

I'll find out which is best for me in about 4 days. I would have missed this without your insistence. Thanks.

So on this venturi rda, do you just swap out cotton, or I guess I'm kinda asking a.build question, like just any old dual coil will do? Also, do you guys steep before you test, or just run it.fresh? I'm trying to get out of.using my rtas for testing as it's a PITA.Thanks in advance.

It's just like any other rebuildable. If you can get the cotton out of there without messing up your coil no problem, but should wick it loosely if you anticipate doing that I guess. I don't do a heck of a lot of diy so I just try it fresh. I imagine if you're doing something more complicated you'd want to steep. Today I just mixed up equal parts bubblegum and watermelon with a touch of ethal maltol to smooth it out and mixed it vigorously in the beaker. Came out tasting fine.

I always test right after mixing and take notes. In the meantime I am tasting other batches I have mixed previously. It takes about a week to go through them all. Then repeat. I continue to do this until I either like them or not. During this I am constantly thinking about how to make them better. The ones that I don't see a future for get dumped. As far as changing cotton, it depends on what was in there previously. When I make a final decision I test on clean cotton.

Edited for typo.

Gotcha Thanks .I do 10-12% LA bubblegum with 5% or so tfa watermelon. Pretty slamming, but thinking of using caps watermelon too.

Both the flavors I used are LA except the Ethyl Maltol which is TFA. I used about 7% of each and 1% EM since I find the bubblegum flavor can be a bit harsh on the throat for some reason.

splash1.jpg splash2.jpg splash3.jpg I use a stillaire with a specially built wickless tasting coil. it uses two 28g kanthat and one .9mm kanthall flat twisted together. I then wrapped it on my smallest screwdriver and wrapped it as wide as my deck would allow. then I heated it to get all the hot spots out and set it as low on the deck as I could without touching. so when I use it I tilt my RDA so the coil is sitting on the low side and the juice just surrounds the coil. You put the airholes to the sides so the air draws across the coil from the sides and adjust as you see fit. the holes must be to the sides to allow you to pool the juice to the coil. the great part about my tasting coil design is that you can rinse it in water, hit it with heat once and bam perfectly clean and ready for next tasting with no residual flavor. now, based on what you are running it on top of is as to how many wraps you want... but since I am running it on a DNA 30 this works just fine, I could ratchet it back a couplke wraps to get it hotter faster but im taste testing not cloud chasing. Another bonus is no burnt wicking, no dry hits... I named this setup The Splash Coil because you just hit it with a splash of juice and clean it with a splash of water... thus The Splash Coil...

Interesting. You gave me some ideas. Currently I'm using clapton wire made from 30g around 30g. 10 wraps on 3/32. 1.9 ohms. Works real well, but I do need cotton. I gotta give this some thought. Thanks for the pics and info.

yeah I went down one morning to visit my buddy who owns a local vape shop and I sat down and told him what I was going to attempt... he just laughed at me... then it worked and he tripped out... I will try anything and if it fails, oh well, but when it works... BINGO! I hope my design inspires others to play with wickless testing builds

In my next order to Lightning, I am going to pick up some flat wire and 32g round, along with my usual 26, 28, and 30 gauge.. I've got to try this wick less stuff.

Well I've been vaping on the Venturi for a couple weeks. I'm impressed. I built it duel coil at .5 ohm. It puts out really flavorful and thick clouds. The only problem I see with it is that I have to mix larger test batches. 6ml as opposed to 3ml. Its worth it though. It is also a clean device with no leeks I have seen, even if set on its side. Have you found that you often leave the top cap off? I have. More convenient to lift the chimney and check to see if your flooding or nearly dry and to change cotton.

I don't understand why you have to mix larger batches. What does that have to do with the Venturi? No, I haven't tried using it without one of its top caps on but now that you mention it, I will.

It burns through the juice at the low build I am using. My Atomic is a real tiny thing with a single coil. It is not a complaint against the Venturi, more against me and the way I built it. I get the best flavor using low ohms in the Venturi.

I throw a single standard coil on my infinite magma clone. It's pefect for taste testing. I just pull out the cotton and pulse a few times then throw a new wick in it. Great flavor from the magma too about as true as it gets. They can be had for around $25
