9 years ago today I sat down at the kitchen table and wife announced that "she" was quitting smoking. If your married you know that I always means we lol. I found this in my box a month ago and much to my surprise it works. This is where I started. Curious to hear your story.

I started with a similar thing. A company E-Smoke, I still have the batteries and the cartridges for it too. When I get home, I'll pull it all out. It had a case and 2 batteries. 1 was a regular length cigarette look alike and the other was a smidge shorter than a 100. The flavors weren't bad, but not great either. I didn't care too much for it as the cartridges dried out. The vapor got stupid hot and would burn the lips.

I started vaping just over 7 years ago, down to my wife too, I did not think vaping would work and we got V2 cigalikes, they was not great compared to what we have nowadays, but they worked :)

I switched to vaping in April 2012 with an eGo-C kit from a local seller. My wife had quit smoking years before vaping was a thing but I wasn't as motivated as she was at the time. Ya, as you know it sucked compared to what we have today, but damn, it got me off smoking and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that setup.

I tossed the hardware a few years ago because I knew I would never vape it again and the batteries were probably getting dangerous anyway. Kudos for reminding me though, it's been a while since I've thought about it

9 yrs. That's great. I stopped 3 yrs and 4 to 5 months ago.
My first vape was a little Joyetech Ego Aio, and as soon as I tried it I thought WOW, seeya later smokes! Didn't ever feel like having a cigarette after it either.
Thumbs up to vaping.

My wife was in Atlanta for the summer. I returned to work and a colleague had a vape and I had never seen one. I wanted to try one so I talked to my wife. She went to a vape store and came back with a couple of Triton IIs and 14 bottles of juice. I waited a week before trying it and the day I did was the day I stopped smoking. That was 3.5 years ago.

Halo Triton.jpg

I was a little behind you, it's been about 7-8 years for me, but sounds like we started similarly, because I just found this in a drawer the other night. It's not THE one I started with, but it's one that I bought to replace the one I started with before moving on to larger ego batteries and bigger cartos.

October of 2013 I tried Blu cigalikes. They didn't do the job, but got me to thinking. In December of 2013 I got the Halo Triton and that did the trick. When I first got the Triton I thought it was huge, but it is the same size as an eGo pen except with 910 battery connection instead of 510. I probably still have it hanging around here somewhere. Here's a pic from the Halo website where they still sell it:

November of 2014, Buffalo NY had a historic 7' snowfall cutting me off from the Rez where I bought my cartons of cigarettes .
I was getting low on smokes and went to my local Family Dollar to grab some packs of smokes to get me thru , but ended up buying The Mistic Starter kits instead of cigarettes after seeing the display and to be able to quit smoking or at least substitute my cigarettes by using a cig-a-like sounded like a great idea - what the heck do I have to lose ?
I gave myself 2 weeks to cut back on cigs and the rest is history- On December 1,2014 I never smoked another cigarette again, I lost my smoking addiction!
I was vaping instead of smoking! Yes it took will power too, but I did it. Vaping and will power slayed my 30+ year smoking addiction.
A few weeks later, Walgreens had come out with the Mistic Bridge kits and Haus eliquids- along with the cartos I used these for many months until my 1st vape shop purchase was the iTaste VV/VW and the Kanger evod tanks, and my 1st online order of vape gear was the Joyetech eCabs kits.

This is so cool that many of you had very similar starts. My second vape kit was a volcano inferno kit I picked up off craigslist lol. That was when I joined the other forum site. Had a couple of friends got the boot over really stupid things and came here. I followed them here.

I tried to get my hubby into vaping- he did not embrace vaping like I did- I decided to quit smoking- not him( his words), ugh! So frustrating!
He is still a dual user- he vapes at work, smokes cigarettes in the garage when he is home, he is not allowed to smoke in the house.
It is a wonder I was able to quit cigarettes at all, but that smoke smell became so horrible to me, that I never again craved another cigarette.

I have a lot of admiration for the determination of those who started vaping in the early days and stuck with it. When I think of the difference in equipment I've gone through since Oct 2016 it's amazing. I'm not sure if I would have made it if I had started in 2010 with what was available then. Those who paved the way deserve respect for pushing vaping forward and upward.

Here's what my first e-cig looked like:

images

June of 2011.

I only bought a few of these, because they tasted nasty and only came in tobacco and menthol, AND they were $7.99 apiece and lasted about as long as one pack of cigarettes (about $3 at the time).

Next I went to a kit from Madvapes that was something like this:

original_510_Cartridge_to_atomizer.jpg

Had two batteries, I think five cartridges, and one of those small chargers. It all came in a box that looked like a box of cigarettes. Cost $9.99 plus shipping, and they would last an ok length of time. I ordered menthol tobacco e-liquid and then branched out to cinnamon pear. Vaped mainly those two flavors for a while, then phased out the menthol.

I kept using these batteries for a while and went to cartomizers like this:

images

Boge made these and I want to say Smoktech made some too.

Y'all probably know the progression after that, through eGos to some telescoping tubes and then finally to box mods. I didn't take up sub-ohm vaping, though until 2018, after I came here.

My first box mod was a Sigelei Spark 90W, which I ordered online, and I used Protank IIs on it for the longest time, until I finally went to Nautilus Minis and Kabuki clones.

Gear sure has come a long way!

That's just it. I thought 15W was a lot of power. Now we have devices running in the 300W and higher range. Not to mention my first go at sub-ohm vaping came off a friend's .04ohm build, which I tried to replicate successfully, only to realize that no matter how low I made my builds, there was a lot more to big clouds and big flavor.

LOL 5 years ago last January my wife sneaked and got me an overpriced cigalike kit. She had quit smoking years before. Me I had quit several time but could not stay wuit, patches, gum, pills , etc nothing worked.
I had pretty much given up on quitting and was starting to develop a smokers cough after 40+ years of smoking.
I decided to give it a go. Dual used for 1 week then last cig I had was gone and suffered thru a few more weeks but then it worked and no more cigs.
the kit came with a subscription cartridge 'service' which cost more than smoking.
within a few weeks I had double the wind I had while smoking. I could clear snow non stop without having to stop and huff several times like I used to.
got in the net and discovered I could get blank 808 carts, so did and cancelled the subscription service, boy did they cry and try to cut the price in 1/2, etc.
Moved on up to the 808 tanks, then to egos and clearos.
Then started 100% DIY and moved to rebuildable tanks and such.
Well stocked with hardware and Nic and do not plan to quit vaping. The habit of motion and such I suppose.

old pic. Those are 808 clearos and 808 threaded shorty egos. No pics of the cigalikes :)

So about 7 years ago when vaping first arrived in NC my ex wife's brother opened a store in my small town. I thought how fucking stupid is this. Blowing fake smoke. How stupid. Then I saw he actually quit smoking. So my gf and I decided to try it. We bought and ego-t kit a piece. We vaped like it was going out of style for a week. In that first week we went from a carton of smokes in 5 days to 2 packs in 5 days between us. Then we both gave it up. A year or so later I decided to try again and got a vision spinner 2 and some aspire tank. Well I went home and put the spinner on charge and it never worked again. The ex wife's sister in law gave me and istick 50 to replace that while she got me a new spinner. I never heard from her again. I got an Atlantis subohm tank. I smoked and vaped for about a year. One of my kids at their bday party asked if I was vaping to not smoke then why still smoke. So I layed the cigs down and have been vaping solo ever since. Still trying to get my gf/wife to join me. Been together for 11yrs so finally got her a ring. But went from man that's stupid to saving my health tremendously.

I have either tossed or piffed all of my old stuff.
I only have stuff now that I will vape.

I gave a lot of stuff away to friends.

i throw away, give or sell nothing (consumables don't count). as all i have is part of my vaping history and as such means something to me, even if it is dead or whatever.

i went from 1/2pk a day, to 5 cigs in a week, then i quit. and i had no intensions of quitting, i liked smoking. i wanted to vape to save money on cigs, dual use. i have yet to save any money, but i REALLY enjoy my new hobby , so i don't care. i still have the 8 cigs that were left in my last pack, AND, i still have the full last carton of cigs i bought, in the fridge. i tried selling them, but no luck.

I used to think 'if someone else needed it more...' I've given away quite a bit. Of course during a time like this, I wish I hadn't. It would have been wonderful to have some of that stuff sitting around still.

I gave away a Cronus, several KFL+s, a V3 Flip, etc. The only item(s) I sold were the Provari and the Z-Atty Pro. I sold both pieces for under half of what I bought them for. And yeah, I wish I hadn't.

After all that, I realized, its not my place to just give people stuff. Yeah it's nice and all, but not my style anymore. It's too expensive to buy truckloads of stuff and then just give it away.

About 3 years ago i was finished being a vape seeker. I had found things I liked to vape with and bought only those things with a minor try a new clone atty or super cheap clearance mod or such every now and again. Around that time I either tossed or piffed all my unwanted stuff.
have never sold anything.
worked out well as I bought multiples of things I liked on clearance and such since it was not the latest and greatest stuff out.
Am now set for life with vape hardware and nic. Actually I need not buy anything else even for juice making for at least 2 years.

I have slowed way down on new vape gear myself. Especially when ever I see something I think I want to try the warlord brings out her spreadsheet that she has been keeping on my vape spending lol. I knew I had spent quite a bit on gear but not as much as she shows. Guess I just didn't think about it that much. To date she says I have wasted "her words" about $7500 in vape related things. This includes juice and such. I DIY some of my juice but I'm still trying to find that mix that is close to the Dekang menthol I love.
I have sold, traded and gave away quite a bit of gear over the years. I still buy stuff for some folks at a nursing home that I helped get off the stinkies.

I remember when I wanted to buy a Jeep back in 2014. Its was a mid-life sort of thing, I think. I pointed out to my wife that I don't drink, do any drugs nor have a girlfriend. However, I would be happy to start one or two of those hobbies. I got my Jeep.

I tried to quit in 2013 with a VV mod called a Rocket. And Egos. I thought it was too expensive, since juice was $30 for 30ml. But cigs hadn’t gone up to $14 then.

But sub ohm and VW did it for me 13 months ago. I smoked for almost 20 years, since I was in college. It’s amazing to be smoke free. And it was easy!

I’d forgotten until you mentioned it that I had a miserable first month quitting with 3mg juice until I could buy higher mg juice. It was so much easier with a good setup and enough nic to detox the cigarette chemicals without going crazy,

I had bought a lot of juice from someone way back and there was a bottle of dekang menthol and a bottle of dekang Marlboro menthol. Really liked them both but menthol was more to my liking. Don't know what to compare it to but mad cat vapors used to have a menthol that was close but now they don't.

I went there when I started vaping again a year ago, and I ended up scoping out their “library”. They had articles about vaping that gave me great info, that I wasn’t able to get from people there.

I felt a very untrusting vibe there. Someone accused me of being a shill because in a month I wrote over 50 posts. The way the Vets described VU, I thought it might be crazy here. So glad I lurked for a month and saw how nice people are here.

They may not curse over there, but they’re not the “friendly bunch” they call themselves, imho.

The info on ECF is there, you just have to know who to ask to get it.

As for what that place has become - well, having went toe-to-toe with one of their admins, I can tell you it's devolved into a cesspool of self-righteous assclowns. There are still a handful of decent people that hang over there... But those people are few and far between now.

There were a bunch of snowflake little bitches that would report everything I posted and red X me. If you go in the hookah thread in the general discussion you can still see my last post. The post was apparently bad enough to ban me but not bad enough to alter or remove.

Yep Titled something like ECF refugee badge?
I used to have one but the dog ate mine.
Or you can probably just PM an admin or staff member?

In being on many boards over the past many years, I was on chat boards when everything was dialup.
I got fed up with ECF and worked hard to get my only banning. Kinda proud of it.
I told the old entitled fart to consume excrement and expire. I think it took him a while to figure out what it meant.

Their Library is packed with good info. Ironically most of the stuff is written by “moved on” people.

There were some nice people there, but for the most part it’s cliquey., imho. Not that there aren’t a few cliques here on certain threads, though. Seems like we’re more active here. Who knows, I haven’t been there in a year.

No, it’s a mod and tank kit from Vapor Fi. The folks that called coils atomizers 6 years ago. Lol

It was a 2500 mah internal battery with 1.5 -2.5ohm coils and VV. It worked okay, but it was $125 for the kit then. Plus their $30 juice. And the battery started not charging after a few months. So I stopped using it.

Well, when you have people that antagonize or incite rage and anger from others and then hide behind the admin aprons when they're getting their brains bashed in or being straight up corrected for misinformation, yeah I'd agree, it is cliquey.

That's not to say anywhere you go isn't going to have their cliques. Because you're going to find them anywhere really, but when the ignorance goes above and beyond that's when they really show themselves for who they are.
