Just pulled the trigger on Sigelei 100w Plus - need help with batteries / charger ASAP

Hello All,

(Sorry for the long post, just trying to give everyone credit where it's due)

So I pulled the trigger on a Sigelei 100 watt Plus this afternoon after getting tired of constantly checking the daily deals on VJ and other vaping sites and waiting for the iStick 50 Watt to be released (soon, I know). I got a great deal from Elev8vape.com, using their 15% off promo “jan15” if anyone is interested - $76 shipped.

Anyway, I know that some of you have suggested good batteries and chargers for me in other posts.

From another post, Mossyvapes said that “I cannot stress enough about battery safety”. That being said, I will be using it to sub-ohm, mostly for my Subtank 0.5 ohm coil and possibly will get into building my own coils or using the supplied Subtank RBA and who knows, maybe some other RDA / RBA down the road and new tanks like the Delta 2.

Having said that, I need to buy some 18650 batteries and a good charger ASAP, my Segelei has already shipped!!! (So excited!!!)

I know nothing about batteries, continuous drain, pulse limit, etc. The very little that I have learned in the past 3 weeks is that you have to buy good (name brand, non-clone batteries) and a good charger.

Please help me decide on batteries and chargers, again, from your previous posts, I have the following:

Buy from: RTD Vapor - Lightening Vapes – Efest 35A 18650 from myvaporstore.com, MXJO 35A 18650 from amazon.com(thanks 4King)

Also, courtesy of madmonkey:
“The LG HE2 has like a 35 amp pulse limit for example but is only a 20 amp continuous drain battery. The Samsung 25R (admittedly one of my favorites) is advertised as a 20 amp battery and is a 20 amp continuous drain battery with a pulse limit of 100 amps.“ Again, I have no idea what this means.

Courtsey of shocka361 -The charger is an Xtar MC2, $15 on ebay.

As always, a BIG THANK YOU to the VU community for your help and suggestions. If you guys have any other suggestions, please let me know. I want to order the batteries & charger tonight so that they ship tomorrow and I have them by the end of the week.

So excited to be upgrading from the measly MVP 11 watt that I’ve been using with my Subtank the last 2 weeks.

Thanks again,

Ki||@

I think you've already been given good recommendation... I don't see how more recommendations will help you make up your mind... but perhaps more info to base that on will actually be of use.

Max Pulse or Burst amperage output limit.... the amount of amperage it can put out for a brief period of time... usually just a few seconds and no more.

Max Continuous amperage output limit... the output the battery can sustain over time... continuously.

Base your needs on the continuous output not the pulse/burst output. Extremely low sub-ohms are only needed by mech mods which can't turn up the power... With a 100w output possible on the one you ordered, you are likely to have about 3x's what you'll use so you have a long ways you can turn it up if it's needed and the coil/wick/juice you are vaping can handle the power.

Basically what Celtic Fog said.

With one exception,

Pony up an extra few dollars and get the 4 bay charger.

The Sigelie is a wonderful mod.

But you need a great RBA to get the most out of it.

That being said, a Kayfun Lite will fit the bill but you will need a sub ohm coil if you actually want to vape at 100 watts.

The Orchid is another top contender. I have dual coils built on it that read 0.5 ohms.

At right around 30 watts,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Yeah Baby!

I use 4 sony vtc 5 for mine with a luc 4 bay charger. I have labeled them 1,2,3 and 4. You are supposed to marry the batteries . I use 1 and 2 together while charging 3 and 4. Then vice versa. When not in use or charging they are kept safely in a plastic box specific for 18650s. The reason I have a 4 bay charger is because my hubby has the same set up. You will love your sig!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

So I'm going to order the 4 bay charger, and try out one set of Sony and the other Efest.

One more question. Do I really need an ohm meter? I guess for $15 it can't hurt. I guess I'll pick up an 18650 box or two as well. It's probably better than leaving the batteries on the counter.

Thanks again,

I use the ohm meter on my sigelei plus. The one I bought separately is crap. I only use it to put the bases on while building coils.

You can also use a multimeter to check ohms on a rda and voltage on the batteries.

I'm still confused about the ohm meter. You said you use the ohm meter on your segelie plus. So if I was to build my own coils, could I use the sigelei to check the ohms? I have no idea what you mean when you say that you use the meter when putting bases on while building coils???

I've only seen people build coils on drippers a few times.

Yes, you can use the sigelei to check the ohms. Just so you know it only reads to tenths e.g. .2, .3, .4

Also, alot of people screw their rdas onto the reader to build on because its hard to get a rda to stay standing up while building the coil. It's just used a base to keep the rda steady.

Thanks for the reply / info darkox.

Another question that just popped in my head. Will I need a 510 converter for the Sigelei? I only have the subtank, nautilus min and a couple of kanger tanks right now.

Thanks,

The sigelei has a 510 connection so you won't need anything for the subtank or nautilus, depending on the kanger tank you may need a 510 to ego adapter.

Make sure you "marry" your batteries. Never put them in another device, never split the pair. Same set every time, same number of charge cycles. And alternate which side of the Sig you mount them in after each charge. 2 batt devices tend to draw each battery a bit differently, this will keep them evenly "worn" over time. Got my 100 Plus yesterday. Billow tank, Atlantis (@35 watts each), Little Boy RDA clone (dual parallel coils, 0.3ohms, @100 watts). In love! I have the MXJO's and VTC4's. With the box's 7 volt chip you will never exceed 20 amps of draw. You will find your difference in battery life, or milliamp hours (mah). I bought a Nitecore i4 to supplement my i2 on amazon from edison bright for 16.99 shipped. Let us know what batts you get and how you like them. GL!

Thanks for the marrying info MileSully.

I guess I keep coming up with questions. I was about to checkout when I was prompted about the Nitecore i4 charger. Could someone please tell me what the difference is? Lightning vapes has the i4 for $20 and the D4 for $30. Looks like the D4 has more features and options and that I should probably go with it (D4).

Thanks!

The i4 uses 3 led lights to show the charge on the battery the D4 gives you the actual voltage in numbers. There might be some other differences but that's probably the biggest selling point over the i4. If you can afford it, I'd go with the D4 or the Luc charger on Lightning Vapes.

I would get an Efest LUC4 charger instead of the Nitecore. The Nitecore's get very warm when charging. My LUC4 doesn't warm up at all.

Aarrrgggghhh!!! So many choices, I don't know what to do or which one to buy. I guess that's what I get for asking you guys for your opinion.

Just watched the video review on the LUC4 and it looks great, especially the quick charge function.

I don't know which one to purchase.

BTW, I'm glad you guys are still up to help me decide.

I would go for the LUC4, I haven't seen many people having problems with those while I have seen a few problems here and there with nitecore's, including mine.

Order placed!!! Hopefully I'll have everything by Friday or Saturday. Went ahead and bought everything from Lightningvapes (couldn't get the 20% code to work, but the 15% code did work), Sony & Efest batteries, ohm meter and decided to go with the Nitecore D4 charger.

Man, it's been an EXPENSIVE day, just dropped about $160 bucks! I'm sure it's money well spent though and I'm sure I'll get a lot of enjoyment out of my new vape toys.

I guess I'll start reading up Kayfun Lite and the Orchid V4? now. Won't be buying anything for a while.

I have 600ml of e-juice coming from Yaeliq that'll hopefully be here sometime this week and a bunch of 15ml fruit flavors that my brother-in-law is sending me (stuff he didn't like) so I have a lot to look forward to.

As always, a BIG THANK YOU to the VU community for helping me with my purchase. I'll be sure to report back once I have everything and have gotten a chance to try it out.

Can't wait, so excited to actually do some sub-ohming @ watts higher than 11!

I'm signing out, Goodnight,

I would avoid nitecore if you can. Many people use them with no issues, but there are better options. The luc4 got a pretty good test and review. Xtar is a good brand as well.

Thanks for your input Boomstick. I ordered the Nitecore, so we'll see how it goes. I can always order the Xtar or LUC4 if the D4 doesn't work out.

One last thing, I accidentally ordered the button top efest batteries. Do you guys know if they will still work with the Sig?

If not, I'll have to call them in the morning and have those cancelled.

Thanks,
Ki||@

Really going to bed now, will check messages in the morning.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the Sig only puts out 20 amps, right? So find 20 amp continuos rated batts with the biggest amount of mAh possible.

Like the 3100mAh 20amp Efest.

The max input current is 20 amps so that's what the batteries need to meet or exceed. I would not get the 3100mah efest though. There are too many reports of them being way over spec'ed. I don't know for sure, but there are too many trusted 20amp cells to gamble on one that people claim only tested at below 10amps continuous.

Tru dat, haven't really anything about those, good or bad. That kinda tells me that people aren't using them and that can't be good.

Just got a call from LV. Great customer service!

They are swapping out the Efest button tops for flat tops. Order will ship today.

Have a good one and Vape on!

i have two pairs of Efest 35A 2500 mha flat tops for my sig150, I figure 20amps as my limit on those for my mechs, so i stick with that on the sig150 also.

I use the Efest LUC v4 4 bay charger

Isn't the max input current on the sig 150 30amps?
I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Fucking Chinese assholes need to provide accurate specs. Especially for high power devices.

Max input and output current on devices with dc-dc converters isn't always the same, but the link does show 40a as both for that one. Cool. I couldn't find that.

@Jackson, Thanks for the links and info. I've been using my subtank and Sig 100W pluss for about a day now and I absolutely LOVE it!!!

I have a question about charging batteries, is it okay to charge them when they get to 50% or even at 30%? Or should I wait until the batts basically die?

Thanks,

Could you please explain what the graph mean?

Thanks,

Those silly pulse tests are hard to decipher. You want to ignore the peaks and just use the valleys. You'll note all the tested IMRENs valleys have a larger voltage drop that the Samsung (blue.)

Maybe this will help.

imren_vs_samsung_25r_3_V_comp.jpg

I chose 3.0V for a baseline you can see the line I drew in when the IMREN hit it. At that point in time the Samsung (blue trace) was at 3.25V.

The bottom scale is the mAh achieved. The IMREN's performance is rather sad, both for voltage drop and vape times. Hopefully they make better Love Dolls.
