Artic Subtank

Hi all
Just wanted to say I got my Horizon Tech Arctic SubTank today from Eciggity...
It came with both the .5 and .2 ohm cotton BTDC coils.. I installed the .2 ohm coil and this thing hits like beast at 60w on my IPV3..
(A great 3 minute YouTube video on this tank)
Anyway it hits way better than my Atlantis....it has a 3ml glass tank, 4 wide adj airhole slots and the supplied SS drip tip bore is wider than the Atlantis...all in all it's the best cloud blowin, flavorful, tank I've tried to date..and I've tried most all the subtanks out there..but this tank kills them,...lol

I too picked up the Artic at my local B&M and yea, the hype is real.
Thing is awesome.....It's an Atlantis on steroids!
Now next is where can we get replacement coils?

Just tried them and they're out right now. I set up an alert for when they get some more.
I'm really loving this tank though. Man it chucks! Well made too.

Decided on getting the goblin over the artic. The cost and availability of coils was the decider. But looks and performs great for a clearo (tried a friends)

Speaking of Artic coils I've been
the same one for about 5 days now and its still hitting like the day I installed it...I got a feeling these coils might go a whole month vaping it every day..so far so good! Lol

Also I really like the massive airflow on my Artic... With 4-3mm air slots and being adjustable its easy to dial in that perfect draw...

Can the coil heads be rebuilt? I rebuild my Atlantis heads, quite easy actually.

I think they could be rebuilt..they are just a little smaller in diameter than the Atlantis coils but have much bigger juice inlets....these .2 ohm coils are rated up to 100w
but they wick very, very fast..I can chain vape it at about 65w until I empty the tank without coming even close to a dry hit...flavor is better than the Atlantis too..
But yes, I do think they can be rebuilt.

I've built my Atlantis heads down to .3 with 22 Gauge Kanthal. 50-60 Watts is the sweet spot, any more and I get dry hits. I'd be interested in how the Arctic handles ultra high VG. I make a Cereal Killa clone with 90% VG, the rest is PG based flavoring. This stuff is thick, even at 75 degrees.

All I use is 100% VG..the Artic vapes it like no other Subtank I've tried to date.. Just awesome! In fact there is a 3 min review on YouTube with a guy blowing huge clouds and showing the whole tank and the impressive coil..
Note there are several variation options on coils...I like the .2 ohm BTDC (Bottom Turbine Dual Coil) I'm using now..it's the coil that came with it, along with a .5 ohm BTDC...But I do hear single BTC .2 and .5 ohm coils are offered too...one would have to do some research for more info on them I suppose....personally the .2 ohm dual coil option works so well for me now that I ordered a 5 pack from Eciggity...

Why is this thread in the rebuildable section?
OK Mr. Fault Finder, tell us what topic should this thread should be posted in?
If it bothers you that much maybe the moderator might move it for you if you ask nicely...lol

I don't know much about the arctic. Thought I might be missing something. Does it have a rebuildable option? Or is this thread in the wrong place?

Just to make sure - there is no RBA type head like the subtank with this right? Only factory coils can be used? that's the only thing that made me hesitate.. I already have enough wicks to buy without adding a totally different atty into the mix..

I have been loving mine for over a week now. Is it meant to be rebuilt? No. Could it be? probably. I'm not that great at rebuilding, so I haven't even considered it.
The only thing that I would say about the Arctic is to watch out for your juice levels. There is a bit of juice at the bottom of the tank that you can't see, but if you rely upon it too much you'll fry the coil. I vape mine at 75w. Did an average pull, thinking there was still juice in the bottom and fried that coil instantly.

Right..No RDA kit came with this tank but the confusing part might be that these factory heads might be indeed rebuildable...All I can say this tank hits like an Atlantis on steroids..absolutely the best I vaped yet..so much so I've parked my true RDA's..get much better flavor and clouds with this tank...its that good, least it's that way with me

have you rebuilt the factory heads already? and if so - how difficult is it compared to others?

No I haven't..these are .2 ohm BTDC coils....(Bottom Turbine Dual Coil) ..they are also a vertical build like the Atlantis, but it's a little premature for me to start thinking about if they can be rebuilt successfully.....been using the same coil for about a week and it's still hitting like a truck..it's really hard to believe the amount of vapor and flavor I am enjoying from a tank!
I did order another Arctic and a box of .2 ohm coils from Eciggity that will get here today, that's how much I like this Arctic Tank....I just looked on their website this morning and they are already sold out of the Arctic Tanks and the .2 ohm coils for it..
I guess that says alot about how other folks feel about the Arctic as well..it truly is an awesome tank...

Cool man - thanks for the info! - and .5 is low enough for me.. I usually don't build anything lower than .4 to be honest.. Going lower than that might not be something that sells me on a new tank but its certainly nice to have the option regardless

The subtank coils seem to be pretty easy to rebuild so maybe I'll stick with those - I just got the kbox and the subtank mini so I'll most likely be using those for awhile ..

but I agree on the longevity of the wicks now - I used 10 tank fills on my full sized subtank and I honestly think I could have gotten a few more before I needed to replace it.. Just have a bunch so figured it was time.. its pretty insane considering the old wicks for say protanks lasted MAYBE 3-4 days on the juices I vape..

these sub-ohm tanks were something I've been waiting on for a long time - 2015 is already off to a good start :)

That is exactly how I managed to get my wife to start using my old Atlantis. She finally got tired of changing out her protank coils every couple days.

After the 5th or so refill on the subtank.. I was like okay - it's gonna start tasting like shit soon.. no way I can go through another 4ml on this wick.. and then 4 full tanks later I was like REALLY? I must be in a Groundhog Day type scenario where I'm really just vaping the first tank over and over LOL

Not trying to hijack the thread into a subtank topic so I'll stop - but once the Arctic's heads get a tutorial on how to rebuild them - I'll give it a try, for now I'm going to hold off for awhile..

@smacksy

have you tired the 0.5ohm coils yet? if so, what it the wattage sweet spot for chain vaping on them?

I am looking for a sub-ohm clearo on top of a mech mod. - this tank sounds like it has potential.

Hi Panther
Yes I tried the .5 ohm coil and it vapes pretty good but I like the .2 ohm coil better...it's a little warmer, thicker vape with intense flavor..I guess that's just a personal preference

i am just afraid that the .2 ohm on a fully charged 18650 would be too much (88W) for the way i chain vape.

a .5 ohm would be closer to 35W which might be better

smacksy

Platinum Contributor
Member For 4 Years
Maybe...but it still only pulls 21A or so ...these .2 ohm coils are rated up to 100w so 88w wouldn't burn it up...also if you're using a mech you might figure in the voltage drop, and the fact the batt will drain with every toke...I vape the .2 ohm coil at 60w that's only about 3.7v..about what one might get on a mech to the coil after voltage drop....might be worse on the .5 ohm coil on a mech..don't know for sure...I put my mechs up when I made the move to VW...just sayin

I'm with smacksy on the Artic fan wagon. Fuggin' thing delivers big time! And I'm not new to sub tanks. This thing is an Atlantis on steroids.
I put in the 0.5 and run it up high on my Sigelei and I quit before it does. Want 100 watts of scalding steam? It delivers and the coils ain't hurt a bit. At 40-45 watts flavor and clouds are ridiculous.
@Panther1911 I've run the 0.2 head in it on my Nemesis tube (yes authentic) and it's great. Samsung 25r's having no problem. Just run magnets in your tube's switch because this tank is a spring killer. It loves heat!
The only gripe is the drip tip. It's a nice wide bore but it's metal and gets hot when you chain vape. I put a wide delrin tip on and sweeeet!
I've got two Atlantis's, a Kanger sub and a Delta 2 for sale now 'cause this Artic is the big dog... (for now)

Thank you for your response!

Do you think the 0.2 head on a mech mod could keep up with chain vaping?

Hi
On my IPV3 I like to run 60-65w using the .2 ohm coil in the Arctic...this seems to be the best setting for my sweet spot..

I'm loving my tank for sure. However, I've been running the .2 coil at 65w, paid close attention to juice levels to avoid burning the coil, and it is starting to taste burned anyways after just 3 days. My Atlantis coil used to last a month or more before needing replacing and I would run it hot, at 45w. If the coils are only going to last 3 or 4 days, I may have to sell it.

WOW!

My coils in my atlantis would last less than a week at 26-28W

That's weird..I've been running my Arctic .2 ohm coil for about a week now and it's still hitting like the day I installed it..But I don't let my juice level drop super low either....vaping 100vg at 65w is working out great for me...

That's funny!
I've got two Atlantis tanks back on the shelf I might use for backup to the Artic..I too was getting a month or so out of the Atlantis coils but the fact is the Artic out performs the Atlantis both in flavor and the ridiculously huge clouds, thx to the .2 ohm DUAL coil in the Arctic..can't go wrong getting the Arctic, best move I've made so far...lol

So strange. I run 70/30 juice, which should last even longer in coils right? I heard max VG can gunk up coils/cotton faster. I've installed two new coils since I bought it a week and a half ago..I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I came across this info and thought I would share.

recommended wattages and seems like break in instructions

Remark:

BTC 0.2 ohm work with 20W to 50W

BTC 0.5 ohm work with 20W to 40W

BTC 1.2 ohm work with 10W to 25W

BTDC 0.2 ohm wok with 30W to 100W

BTDC 0.5 ohm work with 30W to 80W

Manufacture Suggestion

1)In order to have a wonderful vaping, we strongly suggest that let the e liquid absorbed fully.( soak around 30 seconds to 40 seconds)

2)Before vaping,we strongly suggest to use around 15W first.

3)When the first using, keep soaking 1 to 2 minutes ,can use 20W to 30 W directly

I've found the clearer the juice the cleaner it burns..don't know if you can see the clearer 100% VG juice in both of these Arctic tanks but I've found out dripping the darker my juice the more it gunked up my coils...I guess from sugar and such...also I don't like PG at all, even in my tanks...the Artic has those long juice inlet's on the coil that let's even the thickest 100% VG wick very fast, even chain vaping....just sayin

Flavorings and such seem to affect gunking more than pg/vg ratios. That's been my experience anyway.

your lungs do not digest things like your stomach.. < :D
sweetener is totally different than sugar.. sugars cant be dissolved thru your lungs and particles can be trapped..
sweeteners of the other hand, there is no particles to be broken down.. that has already taken place by it's liquid state form.

We are sort've got off the subject of what gunks up coils relating to vaping..lol
And if your looking for a mod to vape the .2 ohm BTDC Arctic coil I would recommend one at least capable of 70w
That said the new 100w IPV4 is coming soon...magnetic batt door and under $100.... Just a thought
