Kanger Subtank Mini burnt tasting

I keep getting a burnt tasting hit after my first hit. This is with the regular coil and RBA. Could this be because of too much cotton??
I can let it sit for a few minutes and get a good hit the first time, but the second and third hit taste burnt. Why??
I haven't ran it above 22w.

What ratio of juice are you using? Long lung hits with max VG juices can result in dry hits. With the RBA deck there are two things to always keep in mind. Your wick needs to just make contact with the ID of the coil. Too little and it will flood...to much and the juice gets choked. The juice channels are quite wee and because of this, thicker juice going into a choked wick just can not keep up with the demands of long lung hits and/or chain vaping.

With the OCC heads...thick juice with aggressive vaping can be the only cause since the juice channels do not come into play.

70vg 30pg.
So since you said the cotton should just hit lid then I think I got to much. It's not crammed in there but it folds up a little.

Again, the wick should just make contact with the deck...and just make contact with the inside of the coil. The wick should not extend into the juice channels AT ALL.

Got home and reworked it used less cotton. Pre juices the cotton and took 2 quick hits off of it and now I'm letting it set just to make sure it doesn't flood out. Going to let it set for about 20 min and I'll let yall know more.

Okay, the op obviously posted his results and I thank him for it, but both of you guys are using some kind of shorthand that I don't get. I've got a subtank mini by Kangertech as well, and I'm tasting and smelling burnt, and I'm pretty sure that's why my throat is sore (any trade secrets on fixing that?) and I also like to know why it's constantly leaking. I just got into vaping two days ago and purchased all my stuff yesterday. I hated using the dripper one because I feel like its too high maintenance. Right, so, I've got the subtank, on what my friend calls a "mech mod." In the tank I've got breathe by epothecary, 0mg if that matters. It leaks all the damn time and just recently started tasting burnt and smelling burnt. So keeping in mind that I'm a complete total noob at this, could one of you re-explain how you've fixed the burnt problem in idiots terms please? And if it involves taking something apart, explain in shapes rather than names, I'm still learning. Thanks!

EDIT: I really enjoy Breathe, so I've been vaping pretty aggressively, as in I refilled the tank twice on the first night (last night) I got it, and once since then.

Since your using a mechanical mod I beleive you have to much voltage going to your subtank. I can't use my sub tank on my mech mod. Especially when I have fresh batteries.
Also thin citrus juice will burn a coil out quicker than normal. Look down the center of your coil and look at the wire and cotton. If you see any burnt looking stuff then your coil is burnt. Since you said you have filled your tank up 3 times already, that tells me you are vaping pretty heavy. Always remember the more you vape the quicker you burn a coil up.

Anyone who is having problems with the subtank rba head should really try the u wicking method. Thread your cotton through like normal. Make sure there's enough to lay flat on the deck and cut the tails on each side right in the middle but not all the way at the coil. Wet the cotton and separate it so there's a large gap between the two tails of wick. This will allow plenty of juice to flow into the chamber and will wick effectively. I use an 85/15 vg/pg blend and I haven't had a dry hit yet. Also take a few primer pulls after you refill to get the juice going. I've gone through 3 tanks so far and haven't had an issue when before every 5 pulls were ending up dry. Give it a shot.

Wow, I did this with regular organic cotton instead of that square Japanese cotton and BAM, not a dry hit yet and great flavor!!

Glad It worked. I wish more people would try it. I was ready to throw mine in the trash before I tried this method. Haven't had a single problem

Leaking tank. As sides are wet or juice flowing out of air hole?
Make sure your tank is tight after refill both top and bottom. I notice my sides were a bit wet after refills. Found top cap to be loose. Now after each refill I wipe the tank clean and check to make sure it is tight.
No problems since.

Wassup guys.. Im a newby in vaping world as well. .. I did almost exactly what jdemp did. I experimented with the coil. I changed it in fact. Now the tatse is just horrible. Almost tasteless. Couldn't taste the juice at all. Doesn't really taste burnt but just tasteless. Can anyone advise or diagnose on what could've went wrong.. Tqsm

Hey guys, I m new to this, I m facing the same use, the juice is leaking from the airflow and I m getting a burnt smell.. also the juice in the tank is getting heated.. what do I do.. I m lost..

More PG = thinner juice which needs more wick to keep it from flooding. I have some 50vg/50pg and 70vg/30pg currently. For the 50/50 I use the suggested method by kanger in the manual, I tend to use a tiny bit thinner cotton and put the chimney on then cut about 1/8th inch above the chimney spread the cotton a bit and then pack it down LOOSELY. With the 70/30 I use the "U" wick method and a little bit less cotton. The 50/50 never dry hits even if I chain vape but it does typically leak a tiny bit that I usually find in the RBA air flow holes but not in the tanks air flow base (I think that's more from the pre soak). As for the 70/30 I haven't had it leak once but I get the occasional dry hit if chain vaping, I'm still working on the "perfect" wick for it since I've only used it in the sub-tank a couple times.

Hi guys went into my local vape shop today and the guy in the who is very knowledgeable on pretty much everything with vapeing told me to turn it on and blow through it to get rid of the burnt taste it has actually worked hope this helps

i following the method of making the u shape. http://i.imgur.com/JQ3bxCh.jpg
the result i get is the liquid is leaking through the air flow. i've checked all connection,no problem.
am using 40pg/60vg liquid.
I have found on my rba coil, the threads that hold the rba in the base were cut wrong! I could not stop it from leaking until i discovered this. I tightened it and it actually will not get tight enough to seal it up. I added a second o-ring to the base and so far it has helped tremendously! hope this helps

Has anyone noticed that the .5 ohm factory coils do not wick very well? They seem to keep up if you occasionally vape but if you chain vape at all they start to dry hit! I have been vaping instead of smoking for a month now and switched from a nautilus to the kanger trying to get more flavor and have been pretty disappointed in the set up so far. Most of the juice i am using is 50/50, some higher VG and some higher PG and haven't noticed a difference in performance at all in any of my juices. I am using an IPV4 and usually vape at 10 - 15 watts.

Hey guys,

My first post on this forum. I too started with a Kanger Subbox Mini and recently started experiencing the burnt taste. No matter what I did (juice, cotton, coils, post screws) I would still get the burnt taste and I noticed I wasn't feeling the nicotine as much either (using .15 or .3mg).

I finally read about using less cotton, and even though I felt like I wasn't using much anyway, I decided to give it a try. I used very little cotton in the rba. In fact, it almost felt like I wasn't using enough (like juice would just flow freely into the juice channel).

Put it back together, fired it up, and it's just about perfect now. Clouds are nice and thick. Pulls are smooth. Flavor is great. So, long story short, you might be using too much cotton and since the Kanger subbtank rba deck / coil and its juice channels are so small, you are basically getting burnt cotton taste.

FYI, I'm vaping at 15w-20w max (I wouldn't go over 25w).

TLDR; Use WAY less cotton and give it another try.

Happy Vaping!
