Thinking about buying the segelei 50w vr2. There are not too many reviews out there. Does anybody have any experience with it?

If I am not mistaken the vr2 is just a Sigelei 50 watt with a spring loaded firing pin and magnetic battery doors. In that respect it is much like the Sigelei 100W plus is to a Sigelei 100W. Look at reviews for the 50 Watt and it should mostly apply to the vr2. I think they were well received. For what it is worth, I got the 100W plus just before Christmas and love it so far.

whats the price going for? its a reliable device thats for sure.. so it just comes down to price point in my opinion.. since you can get the 100w for like 75-85$ i wouldn't spend more than say 50$ for that

I have the 50w (v1) and the 100w (plus). Love them both. The new 50w has the lines like the 100w plus, spring loaded pin, they moved the screen from the front to the side (by the buttons), they ditched the bottom screw hole on the back and just uses magnets and they smoothed out all the sharp edges and corners of the device.

then i would say its a no brainer :)

should be an almost perfect device with those additions!

i just picked up the new clouper mini 30w.. I looked at both sig's but liked the small form factor of the clouper better for on the go

Unless size is an issue, if the price isn't much different I'd go for the 100 watt. I basically never exceed 50 watts on my iPV3, and I'm very happy to have two batteries. Only one 18650 wouldn't be fun. That's the only reason to get a high wattage box for the average vaper, and in my opinion it's a big one. I am tempted to get a 50 watt range box, though, so I could eat my words. I have so many 18650s for my mechs that could be used in a single battery device, so if you are the same it could be better. You'd avoid having to buy and marry pairs of batteries.

Any complaints on the little Clouper?
I've got one on it's way from F/T myself. For $36 I figured what the hell I'll give it a whirl.

From a power standpoint I look at it like this if you if you have no use for the max power and are always under the maximum load then you essentially have a unit that can produce more power but never does. A unit like that is babied and never put under its maximum strain. Where as a maybe a 50w unit that is being pushed near the red line all the time is under near a constant max out. In theory the unit that is driven to its maximum constantly is under harder strain. So if it is simply thinking I don't need 100w because I only use 48 I would rather have the power and not use it.

Now if it is a size issue as well then that it is a whole different thing as sometimes form trumps function.

Still in transit.. Mine came from China as well.. I paid for expedited shipping with the $ i saved using a coupon code.. It was shipped this morning so hopefully have it by Saturday or Mon the latest.. totally agree - for the price point and the options I'm hoping its going to be the perfect device.

Picked up the mini istick as a backup, the kayfun v4, and the subtank to go along with them. Can't come quick enough!

Seems quite nice and small.

I just got my second Segelei 50W box. The first one, an Oni model melted my Igo-W insulator at on a 1ohm build at 10w. Even when I set it at the lowest setting 7w it was way too hot. I returned it and got a VR2 model and it fires like the first one at 7w, feels like a 30w hit and burns my cotton. I have tried several RDAs and a RTA with the same results.

I read on the Sigelei 100w forum that the display lies and does not step down voltage as indicated on the readout. Further investigating on the chip site http://www.yihiecigar.com/products_info/YiHiEcigar-SX330-V2-50W-New-Vapor-Chip-270815.html, the specs shows the Minimum Output Voltage at 3.6v.

I have been vaping for 4 years and have had many mechanical and VV/VW mods and this is the first one that I could not cool down enough. I normally use them between 10-15w, but thinking of lower sub-ohm builds and needing more power. This is my first box mod, the rest have been tube mods with my latest SVD 2.0 working great!

Does any else have this problem and is it possible that it does not step down voltage to what is displayed?

Here's the same chip, you can skip to ~21 minutes to see the scope tests

You are correct, it does not step down. :(

Great video, thanks @Jackson! I wish I had seen @pbusardo's review before I spent $80. I won't say wasted since this unit is great looking and built very well, just limited to higher ohm, med.-high wattage builds. It is a shame they used the Yihi SX-330 chip, I'm a taste chaser.

I watched the video charts 3 times. My take is the Sigelei Vr2 will fire at sub-ohm, just won't regulate to what the "calculated" display says, i.e on my dual coil .5ohm build the display shows 7.0w, 1.9v and it is really getting 3.6v. According to @pbusardo, it doesn't get semi-accurate until around 10w, 1.6ohm. On the high end at 50w, it limits the voltage to ~8.6v above 1.6ohm, even though the display reads ~8.9v to 12v.

I must say, I am very disappointed in Sigelei's choice of the very limited Yihi board in their device. It would have been a deal breaker if I had known before. I really like the box size, buttons, and display, but I have to use it in their sweet spot and build my coils to accommodate. I love VV/VW mods because they normally adjust to any coil I build.

Just to note, the Yihi SX-350 board does step down and is more accurate, but not used in this mod.
