So the positive cap of my vtc4 is kind of pressed in and my charger wont charge it because the chargers contact can't touch my battery's positive contact. Anyone got any advice on how to remedy the problem without breaking the battery?

Try to find a small magnet to use as a spacer.

Or perhaps a small washer of some kind of conductive metal.

my question is what mod did the damage to the top cap. to me it sounds like the battery has been forced into the mod to tightly and the core could have also cracked which presents a possible danger at some point. failing that if you get a new battery wrapper i would suggest if the top is a separate piece of metal simple to fix and rewrap

Pictures would help.
Mage, 'too' tight is easy to achieve when using telescoping mods with fixed battery position and adjustable center pin. I have hacked a few batteries apart and looked at available drafts of cross sections of other batteries and find it unlikely that a battery 'core' could 'crack'. I do not recommend 'warping' or 'rewarping' batteries either. CCDM already warped the + end of his battery. q;-P

A small, thin disk magnet is an excellent quick fix. Just make sure to remove it. Sometimes they will stick inside charger, but remember to remove it from the battery or you will continue to warp the top cap. You can find one in many cardboard boxes these days, used to latch a lid.

I would recommend scrapping the battery and buying a new one. Its just not worth the risk when batteries are so affordable.

For a short period of time I was rotating 4 batteries in a telescoping mod. After a couple of weeks, the tops of the batteries were concave. Doesn't take much effort when the threads are a fine pitch on the mod body. Pix would help explain whether the problem is with the batteries or the design of the charger. Could also get a screw with a larger head for the mod that will prevent the condition.
A simple tweak of the contacts in the charger may fix it. I despise those chargers that have the contacts on spring loaded tracks so they fit various length batteries since they are apt to fuck up - contacts with rail or geometric distortion. I have size-dedicated or fixed charging bays, so I never had an issue with those mildly concave battery terminals.
It could get real expensive to replace batteries every time they develop signs of use that do not effect the battery's safety.
Pictures would help determine this.
Some do have vents under the + contact, but it would take some heavy abuse to distort it that much.

I have dents in both the top and bottom of all my batteries. eFest, LG and MNKE and they still work fine, have no leaks or any other problems. Some mods are just made wrong and the batteries don't seem to mind. Still charge and discharge well. They all have 4-5 months of service and might be counterfeit too. But they still push the same power they did when new. YMMV....
