As the title says I just ordered my first Mech Mod and I'm beginning my journey into the world of RDA's.

Here's what I have been using and most likely will still use as my daily setup.

Istick 30w
Kangertech Subtank Mini

And here's what I have that's on its way to me.

Derringer RDA clone kit

So my question is what tips or advice can you veterans share with me about this.

I know the basics but it's nice to have a list I can fall on when I forget.

Thanks in advance.

Vtc4s and Mnke batteries are your friends.
A good charger like a xtar or nitecore.
Ohm meter.
Lead snips.

Possible teflon tape like plumbers tape if the bottom of the rda is leaky.

Bigger diameter coils will be slightly less harsh.

I am 180 degree opposite your order.
I have a nemy, a chi you, and a hades in my current rotation. VTR mothballed due to the the amp limit.. keeping it in reserve in case the mom unit destroys her mvps.

Just ordered a sig 150 and a dark horse.

Careful - 4nine is quite a dangerous choice for a first mech due to the hybrid connection - make sure your atty center post protrudes well beyond the threads or you could short a battery in short order...

Well that makes me just a little nervous however if I remember correctly I believe the pin on that RDA is adjustable via flathead screw driver, so I would just need to turn it until it's past the threads on the hybrid connection.

Not yet the mod won't arrive until the 25th so I decided I would wait until I get it then head to my local vape shop and ask them for advice on what to use, they also said they would give me a tutorial on the bench they have setup there.

A useful thing I found when I switched from regulated to mechs was to get a feel for the vapor production on a mech with diffferent ohm loads by taking out your battery and popping it into the charger or getting a 510 inline voltmeter attachment and measuring battery levels at regular intervals to learn how much vapor is produced at that much power, estimated duration of the battery and sag etc. Helped me quickly learn when the battery is running low as I did run a couple of batteries too low or charge when there wasn't a need to accidentally at the start.

Makes Sense @VAPER#2311 I actually looked into those inline battery readers last night, i was reading about battery drop and how to select the best battery to use for your mod. It will take some getting use to for sure but i plan on just using it at home at first so i will always have access to a charger and extra battery.

Yeah got one from smok i think aaaages ago did the job and just had to unscrew the atty rather than take the battery out and is quite convenient but yeah haven't used it at all for a long long time so is a small investment for something you may not need (cost me $20 at the time but that was over a year ago probably cheaper now). Same thing I did haha but youll get a feel for it pretty quickly especially once you find your perfect build and soon after will only be wanting to take the mech and a battery out hehe.

http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10008005/1706403-evva-protective-silicone-case-for-18650-battery I got a couple of these to take out single batteries with the mod for work or extended times away from home.

Realize that the magnets in the 4nine switch are theaded into the center of the insulators. If you get hot button or no contact adjust the magnet to center it up inside the insulator. I'm sure this makes no sense to you now because you've not got it yet. But you'll see what I mean when you get it.

@Steam Powered i think i get it the insulator above the switch is adjustable to make the battery more snug in the tube. I assume.

The opposing magnets will keep the bat snug. The insulators have a hole in the middle that's threaded to accept the magnets. Sometimes during use the magnets turns about a half turn exposing more magnet on one side of the insulator than one the other causing a mis fire or a hot button.

I see, so ill need to keep an eye on the insulator and make sure its always centered with the magnets, Or maybe I should just shut up ,heed your advice and wait until i get it so i know exactly what your saying. haha but none the less i appreciate the heads up.

no worries, mechs and rdas are the best hehe have fun building!

p.s. In case you didn't know, mechs especially the contacts and threads need to be regularly cleaned (generally every week or two for heavy usage) because grime and shit builds up. I use a cheap ultrasonic jewellery cleaner (works great on my stainless steel mods, not so great with brass and copper but still saves polishing effort), a metal polish that is safe on the metals I'm cleaning and WD40 for electrical contacts for the threads and contacts. But yeah iso/dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush suffice aswell.

4nine is a cool little tube and can hit hard, but you let that magnet get out of adjustment a little and it'll make you madder than hell.
Either it won't fire or the button is burning your finger. I got so mad at mine I put it up and swore I'd never use it again.
But then one day a bud showed me the deal and bam, loved it again.

out of curiosity @Steam Powered were you using the 4nine with recessed button or the 4nine V2 that is almost flush with the bottom and has reverse threaded lock.

I've got the old model so my advice might be for nothing. Not sure how the button on the other is made

My Bad apparently it's called the Tarsius Prime mod it's essentially a 4nine clone though.

@Smokeybear i think its great that you are looking some much into this, your attention to detail will keep you safe.

but dont sweat it to much.....get your gear in, build it, check your safeties, and vape on and enjoy :)

what maters most is if you are happy with the way it vapes
