First week with the Arctic running the 0.2 head and was blown away. Only down side is it's a thirsty bitch but I don't care as long as the vape is good. And it's real good. Dense clouds and ridiculous flavor.
I've tried it on a wide range of mods. Single bat mech tubes, double mech boxes, regulated boxes running the power the full scale from 30w to 80w. All good..until. I'm vaping away on my Dimitri and out of nowhere bam! Dry hit. da fug? So I figure I've abused it to much and ran to much thick juice over it and it's shot.

So I pull out the .2 and pop in the other coil head that came with it, a 0.5. Well as any dripper will know it lost a bunch of ground on the mechs but on my Sig 100 at around 50w the vape was divine. Then on day 3 with the 0.5 head, bam! Dry hits again. daaum! Now I'm wondering if any other Arctic owner has experienced the same?

I tore apart the 0.2 head and it's burnt at the top so it could be that running the juice level to low is doing it. Maybe when it's low it gets below the juice window and burning the cotton? I dunno, but once you get the first dry hit it'll keep on dry hitting ever so often even when it's full so wtf....

I'm gonna grab a couple more coils and keep trying but if I get more burnt hits this puppy is going on the shelf. Shame to, because on a fresh coil this thing is nothing but badass.

Just got one... I'm getting some juice in mouth- is this a break in thing or is anyone else experiencing it...

It does drink the juice down though- like a breast feeding infant... Crazy thirsty...

Ya letting the juice go low is a no go on this puppy- there is so much cotton in there that running it low will fry it instantly...

So I figured out that the min wattage to eliminate JIM is about 60 with the dual coil...

STEAM- I've only used one type of juice so far ... When you change flavors, how long is it taking for the old to go away ? Considering the tank that it's so thirsty, I'd hate to burn a half tank trying to get a flavor to disappear lol

It doesn't take long at all for mine to switch flavors. I think it's because it runs so hot.

I encounter juice in mouth a bit on the first hard pull or two at 100 watts on the Sigelei. Nothing close to a dry hit in the past week and I would guess I've had 90 or 100 ml through it so far. I am using a thick max vg juice recipe with no sweetener or bakery flavors, just fruits (FA,INW,TFA).

I spent some time trying to figure out a "rubber sole" shoe taste or "new tires" taste, until I tried the mix in my brother's silverplay and pinned it on the juice. In the process I changed flavors once. I switched to a red licorice type mix and it was not nearly as flavorful as I know it to be for the duration of the tank. Likewise, I did not find that it switched over quickly, in fact at the end of the tank I changed back to the original juice and it went instantly back to the original flavor, meaning that in one tankful it had never really changed over.

I did however buy a pack of 0.2 ohm coils at a B+M today and I am glad I did after seeing your review of the 0.5 heads above. Sounds like it reverts back to Atlantis status at higher resistance. I also inspected the coil after a week. Black gunk city. Even with a fairly "clean" ejuice. I've seen some saying they expect a month or more from these coils. Either I must be putting this thing through it's paces or I am doing something wrong. I'm gonna go ahead and guess 2 weeks, tops. Same as my Atlantis (when I was using it as a primary tank). I just hope other Artic users can find coils before the one that was included craps the bed on them. (PS the store I bought mine from sells them on their site for $22 and are in stock).

Better luck moving ahead with the Arctic, Steam!

Great info @MikeSully thanks brother!
I think I've nailed down my dry hit problem.
I'm vaping the tank down to far and when it gets down to almost empty it starves the top coil and fries it. And once it's fried it done.
Can't bring it back. Refill the tank and still dry hits and Ohm's going crazy up and down.
Only thing to do is toss the head and get another.
So beware of that. Now that I've found what I was doing wrong it's working great again. I just won't vape the tank real low again.
As far as the 0.5 reverting it back to Atlantis status I wouldn't take it that far.
The 0.5 at 40-50w it out performs anything the Atlantis could ever do!
Again thanks for you input, very helpful!

PS I agree these heads won't make a month unless your a light vaper, which most people that use a tank like this aren't.
I vape 20-25mls a day of 70/30 and after a couple weeks it's gunked up pretty good.

Thanks for the reply @Steam Powered

Also, as a matter of curiosity, the top cap does unscrew with normal threading. I accidentally separated the two during a filling. I decided to screw the chimney down to the base/coil and attempt a top fill. Fast, and no mess but it was actually not as easy and held about .5ml less juice than bottom fill. I always find myself putting a few drops in that little round "tray" around the coil before flipping it and screwing it back on too. I love this thing!

I find that never letting drop below the glass saves the coil... And that's tough to do on this puppy lol

That's the trick for sure.\ Xhalin
I just went through a couple of tanks on a fresh coil and working great now.
Sure am glad it was me and not the atty because this thing makes some great vapor!
Your right, it's thirsty as hell.
But you know what they say out here on the farm. If ya got a good mule you gotta feed it! ;)

My local BnM just got some in Arctic coils- they ship too... Vapeupusa in Chula Vista, Ca.... I reserved a couple but they only got the .2 coils in- wanted the .5.... Those should be in next week...

Get them while they are in you .2 fans.. If it's not on the site- give them a call. They are a great set of peeps to deal with...

I also put the .5 through its paces. I chain vaped it hard whenever I could lol. Went about a week before I noticed a change in taste. Pulled it apart- coils were not as gunked as I thought they would be- BUT, I did see that cotton was fried in spots...

I could see it lasting another couple weeks without my chain vaping it... I was chaining it at about 38.5 watts... An occasional burst of 40-43 watt seshes also... I'm pretty pleased with it considering the "torture" I put it through...

Was just lookin at the coil design and noticed that it has a long slot for wicking. I wonder if as soon as the juice gets below the top of it you aren't sucking air thru the cotton and preventing juice from getting to the top coil.

So I was blown away by the Arctic but my re-ups on coils has been poor with regard to consistency. Sadly though, it's not just the .5Ω that has been inconsistent, the .2Ω has been equally bad. Here I thought Rip was completely wrong and then I end up getting a similarly nasty experience. Oh well.

Oh...and my relatively short-lived coils look just like what others describe: badly gunked! I was ready to buy several of these tanks. Not anymore. Don't even want the one I have any longer.

I saw the video too and was a little concerned. Has there been any further discussion on the wicking material used in the Arctic coils? I've heard a lot of people speculating that they are made from plastic and fiber glass. I'm interested in picking up a sub ohm tank and have been researching a lot. People seem to be generally happy with the arctic but those coils make me nervous.

I've had the kanger subtank recommended to me many times but i'm not sur eit's the best play

I am pretty certain the wicking is 100% cotton and coils show me no reason to believe they are anything more than resistance and no-resistance wire. I don't know why they (the coils/cotton) act the way they do, but just like in any rebuildable device the build/wicking itself makes a world of a difference for how a build will act. I just think their build-quality consistency of the coil heads can't keep up with demand.

Steam I am having the same issue but for me it was about 1 week before having this issue of dry hit. The tank was half full and when it hit I was like wtf. Still can't figure it out. It comes a goes for me. I was vaping at 65w on a cloupor but i have since drop to 45w and seems to not be as often. Also i notice i will get a dry hit faster if i chain vape.

I had the same issue with these coils I took a gamble and soaked one in rubbing alcohol overnight and let dry for 3 days and the taste was gone. The alcohol when dumped had a brownish color to it. that was that and I have moved into the starre.

Chuckpie85 i will get that a try. It just weird that its not constant. Almost seems like the cotton at the top is not soaking the juice up and its burning. I see slight burn marks at the top of the coil. Weird is all i can say!

Phil lee I have found that the brownish/orangeish color on the cotton is not a burn.it appears to have come from something in the cotton and the condensation for the vapor is also this color which leads to the discoloration that you are seeing. I'm guessing it's some type of bleaching agent in the cotton. Good luck

Chuckpie85 i took my cool apart and the cotton seems fine just like what you said about the color. Only thing i noticed was the bottom coil looked like someone died in a fire wreckage but the top coil was not as black. I replaced the coil with a .5 and that seemed to have fixed it. Only thing i found was i was getting the same taste rip tripper was mentioning in his review. But it didn't take long for me to clear out that nasty funk.

Don't prime it. Just put the dry head in, fill it, and let it sit for about 5 mins. Cures the spit back.

Hey guys, I'm new to forums and was searching about the arctic coils and ended up here.

I been using my arctic .2 bad coils and seems to only last about 3 days.

I'm already on my second which is starting to taste burnt. The cotton isn't too bad but the coils themselves are black and crusty looking.

Using a sigelei at 60w
25/75 vg in favor
5mg of nic
Started with putting 7 drops into the cotton and dipped juice into the 2 sides. Filled tank closed off.
let it sit for 30 mins to realy soak in,
start at 15w and work up until more n more vape comes out.

I have a pic of the 1st one which lasted me 2 days only. Hint... don't operate with air valve shut. Thats how my 1st one burnt out quick.

I'm thinking about getting the .5 coils and see if they last longer.

it's a sick device but thirsty and burns coils fast
I got 2 5ml of juice from the 1st one and 40m so far from the second coil.

@NiffahVape I had the same issue with my one of my .2 coil. I think some of them are just not built to quality. I had my second one put in and it work good but I noticed that if I went beyond 63 watts on my cloupor t6 the coil would not last. Vaping between 50 to 60 watt was the best on my device. Also using it on my m80 i had could not go to 60 watts as the device hits harder than the cloupor so 50 to 55 was max i could use and both the .5 and .2 would last for about 3 weeks. Also I think because the higher wattage it is drying the cotton faster than it can wick and I am a chain vapor sometimes and thats when I notice it starts to get burnt a bit.

I personally was not impressed with the Arctic I never had a dry it but the flavor was muted compared to my Kanger subtanks. Ime pushing any subtank with premade/disposable coils past 25 watts is just asking for a dry hit sooner or later. Also dont run anything thicker than 70/30 juice 80 or 90 vg is too much for these types of coil heads.

Yeah ive order 5 pack of the .5 coils and kanthal A1 24 gauge wore with Japanese cotton and going to make my own coils which turn out about .3 ohm and the cotton will be of better quality.

Go on youtube and type arctic coil rebuild and hot the 1st one.

Pretty cool and helpful vid. Coils for cheaper than a cup of coffee. Yes please

Just got the .5 coils and it seems a lot better than the .2's. Flavour and almost identical size clouds. I'm only running it on 50w and see how long it lasts.

There are now 1to1 clones that I've been seeing on ebay, & the ratings for wattage's for the .2 & .5 coils are less than the Horizon tech coils specs.
I messaged the seller & he told me that the coils look identical to the Horizon coils.

I know clones are inevitable, but I'd rather spend the couple extra bucks & buy the authentics. Unless someone here has used the 1:1's & can tell me that they work just the same.

Last night, I ran my .5 coil at about (after about 2weeks use @ 30-40watts) up to 60 watt's & it was okay for a few pulls. But they're def not built to chain vape @ that type of wattage.

I just ordered more .2 ohm coils, once I use that one for a while I'll try & ramp that one up to 60 as well & report back to see if I have better success. I've found that the sweet spot for most 70/30 juices is around 40watt's +/- . IMO If I'm going to run anything higher than 40 watts I might as well just throw my rebuild-able on top

& to the comment above about the Arctic being muted I didn't notice any muted flavors with any of my juices. I love the subtank as well, but after I had a series of leaking coils & not being able to vape above 20 - 25 watts without burning the coils my vote goes to the Arctic.

I'm having a lot of problems with this coil of getting juice in mouth. Does the coil need to just break in, or is there a reason? I'm burning at 60 watts

Im having a similar issue with the arctic. first few weeks were great. new coil. it tastes.....almost chemical like. i primed it, tried 3 different heads. Wasted 15ml of juice just trying to get it to taste right. tried cleaning my tank with vodka to remove residue. just nothing. I think there is a really nasty batch of coils going around....im gonna give it another week or so but if things dont get better im just gonna give in and get an Isub apex

I gave up on the Arctic for the reasons mentioned above, instead using the og Herakles in the same role. Also in this class, I have an og Starre that with 0.25 makes more clouds but less flavor than the Herk.

I was hesitant to try the TFV4 beast but glad I did.....it has become a reliable companion with coil options galore plus RBA section.

I had that problem with some coils. Some great looking fakes going around, had the scratch off on the side as well. All you have to do is go to Horizon Tech's website and purchase from their authorized vendors. I've not had any problem from the coils since then. They're lasting my girlfriend over a two months. And they lasted me about a month. (I vape a considerable amount more than she.)
Also, don't let the juice get below the glass and the top won't burn out. Also helps if you use clean juices so it won't gunk up your coils.

Thanks. I use a vape band around the glass and when my juice drops below my vape band i usually fill my tank then. I always buy my coils from the same vendor in town now, after my inccident with the fakes i bought. They place I buy them from has the authentic ones. I scratched off the code and checked myself last time I bought a box. still getting nasty flavor though. I posted a thread about it in the help section if you want to see details about my situation
