I feel you there, I have one living grandparent, but I've been down that road with untrained family insisting they could care for someone with basic needs that would tax a well organized care home.

Well, a good home is around $300-400 a week, and they have no money.
IDK...her 50+ y.o. doctor thinks she's fine and won't sign off on her medically so the state or SS can't help either.

They think they can handle it...I know better as I worked in-home care for COPES decades ago. It was rough as hell.

I like this. Makes me think that perhaps humanity has hope after all.

good lord that's cheap. The best home in the state - that is the only one without a D rating is $7,000 per month for basic care, advanced care is $9,500 per month. That's the nursing home here in town, and having seen the care, I wouldn't say its A rated after some of the exceptional homes I saw in NY, compared to here, this might be a C- and its still expensive.

Who makes that kind of money?

So, nobody can afford it eh? Yay, capitalism.

Most of the patients are on some form of state benefit system. Retired military or military spouses, long term disability so the tab is being picked up by the state through medicaid, and the like. Most families that have people there are also on state assistance of some form so the home is making 1/10th of what they say they charge.

So, people like my Gramma who retired after 25+ years slaving away in the shoe Dept. of JCP gets nada. She owns property and gets a $110/mo. pension. Basically she'd have to sell the duplex the family lives in to qualify....lovely.

Yeah it's a very unfortunate state of affairs. We had to go through all that stuff with my mother when her aneurysm ruptured and caused a stroke that left her right side paralyzed, blind in one eye and unable to speak. She required round the clock medical care the rest of her life. And because of that my dad had to unload most everything they owned so her SS and everything would kick in. They didn't want to give her her benefits because she was a year and a half under retirement age and they actually took the approach of "she's not disabled enough"! So nice to know that you work your entire life just to have some government asshole say you're not entitled to the things you worked for! But certain other undeserving parties will have it thrown at them just for merely existing

And the Handifat carts are of course filled with crap and diet soda.

Feeling a bit cruel after a visit to the grocery today.

I'm absolutely certain I have no idea where I left that last vial of 100% pure sanity. If you find it, don't drink it. Its only suitable for what's left of my brain.

(I have to take roomy to the airport in the AM, the cats are helping him pack. I have no idea where my brain is).

In that case. After packing is done, count the cats. If you're missing 1, sit on the suitcase and think about where it could be.

Today's phrases of the day were: "No we're not a head shop." "No you can't use dry stuff in a dripper." "No, you asking with a flirty smile won't make that work." "Do not blindly grope in the dark for the 30ml bottle of juice you JUST had, to fill your dripper...it will turn out to be your tube of biofreeze."
"We're out of small bottles, because UPS screwed up, can I interest you in a 30ml at $3 off?"
