Ignorant things people have said to you about vaping

Due to the rising popularity of ecigs & mods / personal vaporizers, there's a lot of uneducated and / or ignorant people out there who have they're facts mixed up or completely wrong.... As with any new technology. Like fuel injection 20 years ago or synthetic engine oil. So let's hear what people have said to you.

I was outside vaping at work with some of the smokers. A coworker comes out & says that since I'm already outside, I might as well smoke a real cigarette. I told him if I wanted one, I'd go get one out of my tool box.

A few months later, the same coworker says that "those give you pneumonia". I didn't even bother refuting that one, would've taken too much effort.

My roommate has been having a few medical issues lately. He told his doctor about his ecig & how well its working for him. Doctor finds out his has a silica wick & latches onto that saying that silica is the cause of his seizures.

I get the typical "I've heard those are way worse than the real thing!" comment a lot. In my area vaping is catching on like wild fire so it's not as bad as last year. If I'm out and about, I would use a lanyard with either a vaporshark with a kayfun or a 18350 mech and a kayfun around my neck. I get confused looks basically every where I go still.

For the record: yes, but you'd have to make it into hash oil, or "honey," which can be a dangerous process to make, and it's a very inefficient way to get high. You're WAY better off eating it. #FYI

I quit smoking and started vaping over two year ago,have not had a cig since. Outside during breaks the same people at work still ask me "Does that really work?"

"Just as I suspected, now you've just replaced one addiction with another!"

Got so annoyed trying to list everything wrong with that statement in a reply that I knew was gonna just make me look crazier, so I just said "fuggit" and deleted the post, so now I'm not in that contest.

Trouble with people that say things like that made their minds up about vaping as soon as they saw it long before any stats and research came their way. People with adamant minds are very hard to persuade. One doctor told my friend that vaping gives you 'water on the ear'. I mean wtf!

I was fortunate enough to talk to my doctor all about them and sat there vaping. He was fascinated and full of questions. He also admitted he'd never seen one before and knew nothing about them. That's from a doctor.

i find that people who still smoke and refuse to quit are the worst critics of ecigs. they can't help but put down something that works for someone else. just envious, i reckon.

I don't really talk to people about vaping or vape around friends, but that's one of the few negative comments I get. Others seem to be positive

I haven't got any negative feedback from people lately, I do get can you explain why its better than smoking. So I explain why its better than smoking. I have a lot of friends that now vape and have given up smoking.

I was the first one at work to start vaping. After a year of it, there's 6 others now in on it. I know I've had a slight influence with a few. And others, I know they based they're decisions heavily off of what I've told them.

I saw a video last year of some news reporter talking about ecig. He's talking about the propylene glycol & holds up a jug of antifreeze saying "this is what they're inhaling".

I've gotten the Crack pipe comment. One of the ladies at work pointed out my 1100 mah ego & asked another lady passing by for her opinion. She scrunched her face up, shook her head, & walked away.

I was vaping outside last Christmas, at the family gathering. My cousins wife, that I have known for 15 years, comes out, sees me, and says "Don't worry, I won't judge you." She thought I was smoking dope.

Is that weed 3 times within the span of 5 hours at a concert.

Another time I was at a bar having a beer. I was sitting at the bar, minding my own business. Sipping my beer and having a vape. Owners have no problem with it and up until this point no one else ever did. Some drunk twat waffle at the end of the bar asked if I had to do that. I said what do you mean. She said can't you swallow the smoke or something. I said it isn't smoke and asked if it bothered her. She said yeah it does. So I moved. She sat there laughing with her other drunk friends because me moving apparently made her feel superior. The irony of it is her redneck boyfriend was going outside every 5 minutes to smoke and she was shoving her tongue in his mouth every time he came back. So she was offended by my pleasant smelling sweet vapor but had no problem licking an ashtray. WTF ever.

I had someone who had quit years ago ask for a taste since he loved the smell. After coughing slightly he asked, "Should I go to the hospital now?" and " Don't those still cause cancer?". By the way my cardiologist was quite happy to hear that I had given up the evil weed for vaping and was progressively reducing my nic intake. Gave me an "attaboy".

I've gotten a lot of same as y'all (I heard it's worse than smoking, there's antifreeze in those, those batteries explode, is that for smoking weed?, nicotine causes cancer, etc). Once had a cop snatch my black 901 out of my hand and exclaimed, "what's this!?" with a smug look on his face like he had just caught me with something illegal. Luckily another cop intervened before it got out of hand and said to him, in a condescending tone, "it's an electronic cigarette".

Worst was when was walking down the sidewalk and suddenly two cop cars race up, with one stopping directly in front of me, cops jump out and surround me, cuff me, and begin searching me, all because I was using my 901 (or 510, forget which) in public. Shaking head. As though someone would be stupid enough to walk down a public sidewalk while puffing on a crack pipe. Really? Just really?

I was outside talking to my girlfriend at her work. And it's like 10 feet from this counseling center. So we are talking and she takes a vape, well this guy comes up and starts yelling how he is gonna call the cops because this is a counseling center for drug addicts. We kindly tell him that's is an electronic cigarette. He starts getting more irate, calling us good for nothing drug addicts. I had to take the damn kayfun apart to show him the eliquid inside. He was still angry and said well don't smoke your e thing around my building (even though we were in front of her building). Meanwhile there are about 4 people smoking cigs right beside his door. He swore it was some kind of narcotic paraphernalia. Some people are just hard headed.

So he's from a counseling center to help addicts but has a snit fit when he thinks he sees some? He should have been trying to get ya to go into the center for help. Pretty shitty counselor, if you ask me.

Ive gotten more than a few "bad" comments on them, but theyre usually older people (seniors ages). Most of them are 1. Pneumonia 2. they blow up or 3. theyre even worse for you. But ive had a far more positive responses than the negative. I meet alot of clients in my line of work (real estate) and most of the smokers want to try out the ecig, then once i let them hit mine, 9/10 they ask wheres a local b&m. So its not always bad lol...

I'm the same way. Your genuine interest or ignorant comment is going to heavily influence my response.

While on vacation last year at a family bbq, a cousin who I rarely see comes up & asks about mine. I gave him a quick rundown on it, how it works, cost effective, showed coil setup. While discussing it, he says he noticed that I'm getting a decent amount of vapor out of it. That kinda impressed as he was pretty much watching me vape away earlier before asking, which shows genuine interest.
