Post VU shutdown ... constantly needing to flush DNS

I believe there's still an issue with VU where the "shut down for maintenance" message keeps re-appearing.

For us Windows users, we have to to constantly open a Command window and enter "ipconfig /flushdns"

Hopefully there's something you guys can check behind the scenes to resolve this.

You think that's bad? You should see how fucking extra painful Cloudflare makes it to access VU through TOR now. It's one fucking unsolvable captcha every 3 pages now. These people need to be shot through the head...

All I can say is that was a very long two days going without my VU and I hope it never happens again.....:D

Still buggy.

I consistently hit the "site down for maintenance" message even after flushing out the DNS and clearing browsing history multiple times.

Yeah, I've come to the conclusion I have spent WAY too much time here. My life is busy, and I am doing a piss poor job of managing my time.

The most limited commodity any of us have, is time.

No idea why the yahoos in management here never bothered to tell anyone they were going to be down, but that was piss poor management. Maybe everyone should come to realize just what they think of us lowly posters and participants. We didn't rate high enough to get a heads up.

The hits and impressions rely on us to make the site money. I can easily uninstall Joe's app and limit the days I visit his site, as well as never click on his deals. If I and 50% of the people here, did the same, maybe they would take notice when it hit them in the wallet....

:)

Perhaps too early to tell after only one day post-shutdown, but that could have already started.

For those of you who use Google Chrome on your laptop or desktop computer, DotVPN is a free add-on from the Chrome Web Store. This has allowed me to use VU without slamming into the stupid "site down for maintenance" page.

To make it work in VU, you have to turn off Ad Blocker.

The issue is your ISPs DNS server(s). Try changing your DNS to use googles or OpenDNS.

Seems to be working fine for me now. If Joe wants to pretend it was scheduled maintenance and not explain what it was really about that's his business. It's his forum. So just be glad its back up and either help it continue to be the faster growing vaping forum on the net, or don't. What's there to argue about?

Why go to all that trouble, I just cleared my browsing history and the errors and blocks stopped

There's nothing to be pretending, we did an upgrade instead of maintenance because we were going to be down anyways, just took longer than we anticipated, end of story

It was more than an upgrade! The site moved.

Yeah but it's the "we were going to be down anyways" part that was never explained. I know I would never intentionally schedule maintenance or an upgrade on a holiday weekend when there are massive sales going on. So it seems to a lot of us that something unexpected happened that triggered all of it. But as I said, who cares? If you guys don't want to talk about it, that's your choice. Doesn't matter to me one way or the other at this point.

I honestly haven't changed Kelli, I don't know what you mean by that.

here's what i mean. this place is kind of important to some people, and the people who run it shrug off our questions like they don't care about any of us. there was no warning, no announcement, no nothing about the site being down for ANY length of time. and then when we naturally want to know what happened, we are stonewalled. basically...don't fucking worry about it. now shut up. nice.

And explanation was given, and it is what it is, I am just trying to get back to normal Kelli, so maybe you do too??? I am not going to argue about what others think the reason we were down for was , I know why we were down and it was posted why we were down and that is all I have.

Great Point! That is why I asked in another thread. Seems they would rather the BS out there and people come to there own conclusions. Oh well!

I dunno.. It just suddenly started working for me yesterday. Once I got in, it looked like some people were in here for close to an hour before I could. After that, its all been working normally. I didnt even have to relog in. No clearing of cache. No flushing the DNS. Nothing like that was needed.

FF 36.0.4 on Win8.1 Pro with only Windows Firewall and Malewarebytes Pro and AntiExploit.

Here is a bit of advice and a little opinion that wasn't asked for.....

If you do not like someplace as they make you feel uncomfortable, and they do not hold to ideals that you can live with, then create or find someplace that fits what you are looking for.

There is no requirement that any of us are to be here. And the only reason we are, is to make someone else money. If it were not for them making money, this place would not exist. That's the cold, hard truth.

In my short time here, I have seen changes in the people that run this place. I have heard how bad this other site is/was, and I am seeing some similarities beginning to hatch. People are people. And when you give some a little credence, or they start thinking they are more important that what in reality, that they are, their ego takes over. It's just human nature.

Doesn't mean I am leaving here, but I will be spending much less time in the future here. I don't have time to feed the ego's of people that are absolutely unimportant. I do not need to click deals to make someone else a dollar either. I have already uninstalled the app. I can find deals on my own. And sometimes, even better prices.

There are a lot of good people here, and there are some real pieces of pond scum. This is the internet, and many people find too much "comfortable" safety in it. You can't see people's true intentions quite as well or clearly. But there is one thing for certain, there is never a shortage of people that will use you for their own purposes. That certainly is not bettering my life.

Thought it meant I'm radioactive ... as in "suitable for disposal."

I tried to click on and drag it open to see what was under the pretty green tab:)

Hey Don, my system was slow too, but the DNS server my ISP uses got new address info for VU. Try flushing your DNS cache, open a command window and type in "ipconfig /flushdns", that will force your system to acquire new DNS information. Might help.
