I'm thinking about investing in a sonic cleaner, but I have no idea how to use it to clean vape equipment. Any tips? I have never used a sonic cleaner before, but i can read an instruction manual. I just don't think using the provided jewelry cleaner seems like a good idea

Thanks. I figured the jewelry cleaner was no good. Have you noticed a difference with distilled water vs regular tap?

Yes, I don't even drink tap water, lots of unwanted stuff in it. Distilled water cost about 80 cents a gallon.

if your cleaning your equipment be sure to purchase a quality ultrasonic cleaner. 1.5 liter ultrasonic cleaners cost somewhere around 50-60.00 not a bad price. On the other hand if you buy an ultrasonic cleaner it can also be used to steep your DIY e juice.

Danno I just use warm water and a few drops of washing up liquid all you have to do is add something that breaks the surface tension one or two 4 minute runs then rinse clean removes all old smells of liquids great bit of kit for cleaning most small parts even my heavily soiled shotgun pistons
be sure and rinse the cleaner aswell

Excellent. I had wanted one to simplify firearms cleaning as well, but I want a larger capacity one to be able to handle rifle length components. However, I think I shall have a separate, smaller one for vaping. Thanks for the heads up!

just be aware danno this type of cleaning will take most things down to the bare bones and remove all oils and lubes i.e. bare metal

I picked one up at Harbor Freight for around $30, it was a worthwhile investment. For vaping equipment it's a godsend. Even if you just bought it to clean your drip tips it would be worth it. Hardly a day goes by that i don't drop something in there. Especially mech mod parts and the decks for my RDAs. Gets rid of all the corrosion in the threads and gets it all working new again. Definitely worth the $30

PS: You can take time, and patience, and make your "own" distilled water. Please don't tell me if this video is wrong in a chemistry sense, I don't know I'm not a chemist. There are many other videos you can also view.

I'm using plain water. Adding dish washing detergent for Atomizers. Vinegar for bottles and their caps.
Oh, my SC also has a build in heater.

I got mine at harbor freight for 85.00. It heats to 140 degrees, with the heater on and runs 8 min cycles. Thus is the cats meow. I use it to steep juices and also clean all my tanks and RDAS. They come out like new every time

I use the one at my work with some industrial strength cleaner and stripped the paint off one of my nemesis. next time just distilled water. on the bright side i polished that nemesis to a mirror finish.

I work in a aircraft overhaul company. We use U.C. units for cleaning components. The only way to remove gunk from internal oil passages and other inaccessable areas. We use a chemical in the tanks called oakite. The waste solution is disposed of by a waste management company. I have cleaned jewlery in it and its amazing hot it gleams like new. I thought of using it to clean my attys but who knows what it might leave on the surface or in the porosity of the material. Highly recommend to play it safe. Water with a drop or 2 of dish soap seems alot safer to me.

I'm thinking about one of these for cleaning my gear. After reading this thread though, I have to ask, how do you steep juice in it?

Seal your juice in a bottle add hot water to the unit and turn it on !! Easy Peezee !
I find 45 minutes equal to about a week. That is in my particular unit at 50 watts. YMMV

That sounds AWESOME, I think I may need to pick one of these up sooner rather than later. I had no idea I could accelerate the steeping time with one. Thanks!

No problem. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Also great for other things as well. For example some perfume companys use ultrasonics for extracting fragrances from eg: roses. Some guys (lol) have been known to use it for extracting resins from canabis. I personally have used it for extracting flavor from tobacco for making my own juice.

Be careful with variable airflow tanks. I ruined a Nautilus mini leaving it in vodka for a couple days. Luckily its stuck on the biggest hole.

I generally use PGA for cleaning my stuff, but have been considering a usc, mostly because I don't have to let stuff soak overnight. Plus it's cheaper than Everclear in the long run ... LOL

I hate to be a downer here but it is possible to negatively affect your nic when using a powerful UC. You might consider adding the Nic after processing it in the ultrasonic cleaner The particle vibration does go down to a molecular level. No one knows for sure how much ultrasonic agitation Nic can tolerate so you'll need to check each batch if you're going to put it in the juice before ultrasonic processing.
For the same reason, flavorings can be affected too. Obviously you can't leave everything out of the mix while processing so my solution has been to use a different form of agitation, like stirring. Small stirring machines are cheap and easy to make from a orbital sander or a vibrator, the kind for massaging sore muscles.

Oh great... I can see it now, some poor wife is going to come home and see her "massager" sitting out and just look all worried like at her husband. Really dear, I was just steeping my E-Juice!!

Quite awhile ago we did a steeping test over at the other other place: 4 hours in the UC with heat (150 degrees) vs 4 hours in the crockpot at 150 degrees. Nic was tested before and afterwards and no decrease in nic level was noted at these temps/times!

PGA stands for Pure Grain Alcohol. Sold over the counter in some states as 200 proof Everclear.

Only if you're brave or in some cases stupid. In my state you actually have to apply for a card and state what you intend to use it for to purchase the 200 proof. The 150 is on the shelf. Too many cases of alcohol poisoning with the 200

Some people have been known to cut a hole in the middle of a watermelon, insert a 1/2 pint of Everclear into it till it drains into the melon, replace the cut out plug, & set it in a refrigerator for 24 hours or so. I neither confirm or dispute the practice.

I am a fan of those sonic cleaner's. My sun glasses come out amazing. I steam clean my Atomizers. It includes more effort, but I think better results. And it's somewhat violent. :)

To clean your equipment properly you need 2 bottles of vodka. One cheap, one Stoli. Disassemble equipment, place in bowl of cheap vodka to soak. Take shot of Stoli (maybe several) while waiting. Rinse with water, take shot of Stoli. Pat equipment dry after soaking, take shot of Stoli. Reassemble equipment, take shot of Stoli. Refill equipment, take shot of Stoli. Vape, take shot of Stoli. Drip or refill equipment as necessary to continue vaping, take shot of Stoli. Continue to take shots of Stoli while vaing to prevent vapers toungue. Rinse and repeat.
Works for me!
I have tried an ultrasonic cleaner for both my equipment and for "quick-steeping" liquids, I have seen no benefit to either.

But distilled water is BAD to drink- you want filtered water. Don't they call distiller water "thirsty water" because of the fact that it's minerals and everything are removed from it, so when you drink it the water absorbs those minerals right outta your body.?? Your supposed to be getting those from the water, not having it take them from you.!

I'm pretty old and it's not killed me. It's only HOH, nothing to hurt you. You WANT the water to draw the "stuff" from your body. You can easily replace the good stuff with food and/or vitamin supplement pill.
You would think that drinking water that meets Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards would be safe and healthy, but it's actually one of your biggest health risks. Even "safe" water may contain "acceptable" amounts of lead, arsenic, mercury, radioactive particles, and a long list of other poisons
