It's funny (not funny haha, but funny odd) how different companies treat vaping. Many (too many) treat it just like smoking, including the extra cost on health insurance. Others specify where you can vape but treat it insurance-wise as non-smoking. I even have several customers whose employers treat it as a quit-smoking device and not only give them the non-smoking rate on health insurance but will pay for (at least some percentage of) their device.
Hey maybe I need to contact my insurance...... It could go good......or horribly wrong....

Earlier this morning, I popped into my company doctors' office. They have this lobby in which they've peppered brochures promoting tobacco cessacion interviews and products - state-sponsored, and printed by Big Pharma. I figured I'd leave a few pamphlets of my own - namely a few brochures in French from Aiduce entitled "I've heard that... Preconceptions about the electronic cigarette or personal vaporizer"

Well, it didn't take long: by mid-afternoon, I got a call from HR asking me if I was the one who left that literature. I said yes, and they informed me that I'd be getting an official warning for giving unauthorized medical advice inside the company.

Bunch of fuckheads...

Do you have a copy I could see? I can't read French I guess you made them English? Sorry for the Double post, I'm not the best on these forums and forgot to quote Giraut.

Giraut, do you have a copy of that leaflet in English? I can't read French, but it looks interesting.

Sorry I don't have an English version. I currently live in the French-speaking part of Belgium, and they don't speak much else sadly. The pamphlet is from a French vaping non-profit that deals with French-speaking folks only - like most French people :)

Yep, the company i work for treat vaping just like smoking, nicotine or not. Same applies for our company insurance... 30% higher premiums for tobacco or vape users.

The local hospital tests new employees for nicotine. If the test is positive, "No Job For You!!"

Haha I take mine to the restroom too, I think I even giggle quietly as I exhale thinking, 'cop that suckers!'

Yeah I only smoke in the 'designated' smoking areas if no one else is there.

Made me think....if they care enough about the "smokers" to make a special area, why would they not make a special Vaping area for vapers?? Hmmmmmm...

Hey @Whiskey, that's an awesome idea. I wish my employer would do the same. They make us vapers take the same break time as everyone else and if we want to vape, then we need to stand out in the smoking pit with the analog smokers. I have been fighting this with HR to no avail. It defeats the purpose of quitting analogs if we have to stand in the same area. For me, I have been smoke free long enough that being around smokers doesnt break my will to stay off of them but for new vapers trying to quit, it is pretty tough. The whole thing is disappointing...

So they care more to create areas so smokers can smoke to worsen the health of their employee's yet will not make an area for those trying to better their health, whats wrong with this picture??

Unfortunately since so many employers equate vaping to smoking, they feel there is no need to separate the two.

They need to be educated, starting from small companies right on up the ladder. The employees need to take action on educating in any way they can, because the more companies that understand the difference the higher up this goes, allowing areas for vapers is a win win and can be used as tools to get the word out.:) I know its not going to be easy, but we have to start doing more:)

Sounds like you have a jealous smoker working there. Or just a total arsehole who likes pissing on people's lives.

Just general ignorance and knee-jerk reaction to anything remotely connected to tobacco at work here.

But this will change soon methink: I've learned today that a couple of high-ranking directors I know well, who were heavy smokers, have successfully switched to vaping in my company. If these people want to vape in their office and decide the rulebook needs to change re vaping, it'll happen - unlike when Mr. Nobody yours truly suggests it.

Unless they bend the rules or have them changed to cover only themselves, which is the sort of thing company officers do of course...

Fortunately they're pretty cool about it at my work. I usually go back to the break table and they all have sense enough to know what it is and know they don't smell it. Anyone who asks questions get educated answers from me and at least three others have asked me to help them with gear and are trying to quit. I make juices for them too. I just don't do it in the dining room around customers.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - the only reason people are so offended is because they're pissed off that we've found a way to enjoy our nicotine that does no harm to others. We didn't "behave" and do as we were told and just quit like they wanted us to. We didn't invest a massive amount of money in Big Pharma's pills and potions in order to become Stepfords and good little sheep. It's a very communistic approach that angers me to the core.
And they can all kiss my ass......
I also work at a resturaunt, well a country club. The smoking policy is very tight, no smoking unless your on your break, or before and after your shift. The smokers get super jealous that I can sneak into the bathroom, turn on the exaust fan and get my nic without being stinky. I just dont tell them that when I have to piss, I get a vape in too.

That's what I asked for. They told me that if they did that they'd have to have a separate area for vapers that vaped with nicotine, and vapers that vaped zero nicotine.
I basically just lol'd at that. I'm the only person here that vapes and there are only 2-3 smokers.

It gets funnier though. The moronic fucker that I work with still complains about me vaping, even though she is no where near me when I do. She went home sick last week with a sore throat and 'scratchy nose' (wtf), and blamed my vaping. Tbh I'd like to push her under a bus.

She's either a classic troublemaker or a hypochondriac (or both).

Reminds me of a vendor that raised a huge ruckus and accused my mother of smoking inside at a trade show, around 6 or so years ago. Thing is, she hasn't smoked since around 1970. I once got accused by my manager of smoking in the shop where I worked (back around '93). It was a complete fabrication (or hallucination?). I ended up quitting that job because the manager was such a bitch.

When I entered the workforce 39 years ago and came home to my mother complaining about my first encounter with an idiot coworker, she said something to me that has helped me ever since: "Everybody has the right to be an asshole. And learning how to work with assholes is a valuable, marketable skill."

Can't wait for the first round of lawsuits from (non-smoking) vapers forced into
the unhealthful second-hand smoke environment by their companies.
Agreed. The anti's used junk science to convince everyone how 2nd hand and even 3rd hand smoking is just as harmful as being a smoker, so it's only fitting that their own arguments be used against them. I'm a bit surprised that it hasn't already happened, especially with so many companies and even some governments saying that vaping has to take place in smoking areas. Ripe for a class action lawsuit, imho.

I get hollered at if they see the vapor cloud at work. Granted I am a receptionist and dont vape in front people coming in but I get stared at all day long form all the head honchos on the 3rd floor and always know when one specific person spotted me so I am going to get hollered at. I have informed them that I quit smoking and that I refuse to vape out in the smokers hut. I refuse to bring all the smoke and tar and all that nastiness back on my clothes. I quit smoking to get healthier. They dont complain if I am outside so that is good I am not forced to be in the smokers hut. I have found a happy medium though. If i need a vape and dont have time or want to be outside I go voop (everyone loves the smell of the bathroom closest to me now :) ) or I go across the lobby and hide in the permit counters aback room. Nobody from upstairs can see me and the people that are back there love how that room smells when I go in there :)

Vaping areas would be the best thing. The employers may just get fed up, and say no smoking, and no vaping, period. I don't want to vape in a smoking area either. I will smell like cigarettes if I do.

I just can't get my head around it tbh. We don't fucking smoke, we vape.
I asked our HR Dept. what would happen if my moronic co-worker was asked to eat her pig swill, in the smoking area, with the smokers because the smell makes me gag. Yes her lunch really smells that bad, and she eats it at her desk.
HR told me that wasn't appropriate as she wasn't a smoker. I said you know what, NEITHER AM I.

HR are so busy being politically correct, they lack any common sense as far as I'm concerned. And yeah, I'm often in trouble.

Im just gonna start telling people its treatment for asthma.

That might not be so far off the truth. I know two people who have stopped using their asthma inhalers since switching to vaping.
