Ok guys I smoked for years and quit for around 5 years. With that being said I seen a buddy vaping and it blew my mind thought it was awesome. He gave me an xhale kit I broke the tank first day and bought another from smoke shop. I rather enjoy the 3 days that I have been vaping. But the question I have is do I just keep the little xhale battery pack or do I go buy another...granted I want something small enough to smoke on break at work. I have no idea the wattage or size tank I just love the vape...and lastly are there any heALTH concerns around vaping I have looked but not found anything myself.

Breathing anything that isn't air isn't as good as breathing air alone - though even breathing air in most cities is toxic in its own right. You'll have to make the call on your own as to whether the risks (which at this point are largely unknown, we're kind of guinea pigging this whole "vape" thing right now) are worth it to you. I used to smoke cigarettes, and I still would if it wasn't for vaping, so I see this as a less-harmful, though likely not harmless replacement.

I don't personally have any experience with this xhale device you speak of, nor do I know what your budget is...an ideal setup for a beginner-to-mid-level user to me would be a 30-50 watt compact device with replaceable 18650 batteries, but that requires purchase of a mod, batteries, and a charger, which could set you back $100 or so. There are all-in-one devices that charge via micro USB, but with all the quality control issues I've seen with the iStick (the most popular), I've stopped recommending those devices.

It is an all in one device and I am on a low budget like 20 bucks a week and I don't know where to start as far as building one it sounds awesome but I'm clueless

Maybe it's an off-brand eGo - about the same size as a Sharpie marker?

Welcome to VU. I have to ask why after 5 yrs cig free you'd want to take up vaping though. Just curious, not trying to be judgmental.

Honestly I loved to smoke. My wife has CF so smoking around her is out of the question...and smoking takes me back to the "good ol days". Yes it is about the size of a sharpie.

Here's a simple and cheap eGo-style starter kit from @VapeSuperSaver - I've used and had great luck with this vendor, as have other forum members:

http://www.vapesupersaver.com/evod-starter-kit/

You won't blow huge clouds, but you'll be vaping with a good quality setup similar to what I used to quit smoking and used for almost a year before I started upgrading.

If you want to go a little bigger, check out the Subox starter kit on their homepage (though the link isn't working right now) - $57 and you'll have a setup that'll blow any eGo style out of the water and probably last a long time, but you'd need to drop another $12 on a couple batteries and $15-20 on a battery charger. I like Samsung 25R batteries and any of the chargers available here:

http://www.lightningvapes.com/

Edit: wow, Lightning Vapes has jacked up their prices! Try here for another forum member's site, with considerably cheaper pricing on batteries and chargers (not sure what shipping will be, I've never bought here but I've heard from enough satisfied customers to feel comfortable recommending them):

That's the reason none of my previous quits lasted more than 3-6 months over a 15-year span...I genuinely enjoy smoking, or I did until I realized I could get the same experience vaping without the stink and a drastically-reduced health risk. Congrats to you on overpowering the urges for a whole 5 years, and for finding a better alternative when you eventually came back to it...

Ok so what does the variable wattage mean I understand you can control the wattage which in turn should control the amount of heat?? I'm just trying to use logic here I don't know

There are two ways of controlling power - variable voltage and variable wattage, with voltage being more popular on the eGo-style stick batteries and wattage being more prevalent in mods. Basically wattage is a result of a calculation comparing the power input (voltage) to the resistance of the coil (ohms). With different devices and liquids, some prefer a warmer temperature to extract the best flavor and cloud, others taste better cooler. Having this adjustability allows you to play around and find the vape that's best tailored to your individual needs.

First of all, Welcome to the Underground!

And I/we will be happy to help you find the vapegear of your dreams.

That being said, what is your budget for a good kit?

As far as health concerns? Let me put it this way.

IMHO, vaping is about a Bazillion times better for you than smoking.

When you light up a cigarette, think of it like you are sucking on a burning piece of shrubbery.

And this Shrubbery has lots of extra chemicals in it to help you keep up your addiction to it other than just nicotine.

Something like 4,000 different ingredients.

Also when you suck on a burning shrub, you get all kinds of things like tar going into your lungs for a very long stay.

E-Liquid has very few ingredients.

Propylene Glycol (used in Asthma Inhalers) Vegetable Glycerine (again pretty damn harmless) USP grade nicotine and flavorings for the most part. Some water and alcohol may also sneak in there.

Again, is Vaping better than Smoking? Hell yes!

Is vaping better than clean air? Hell no!

That being said, clean air is getting harder to find anyway.

Go and take a sniff of Cleveland, Ohio in the industrial district if you doubt that.

The more heat in turn the more vape?
Most often, yes. But given the limitations of certain liquid-delivery devices, you may end up burning your liquid rather than achieving a bigger cloud with more beginner-friendly devices.
But more wattage would also mean more battery usage too?
Also yes - the more power you demand from your battery, the shorter the time between charges.

Hey Tim,

Welcome to VU, the vaping community is a great one. At the B&M location I work at, a lot of the first time vapers will ask us about the health risks with ecigs. We usually remind them that whatever is introduced to the body, might throw it off balance. My boss has been vaping for 13 years straight and he's perfectly healthy, goes for a check up regularly too. The only negative thing I feel that is a necessary evil when it comes to vaping is the nicotine, as it is addictive and toxic. But it's very hard for smokers to quit cold turkey without any sort of NRT. I've heard some people say it may "cause cancer", but realistically almost anything can be cancerous. The sun for example. There has been no scientific research published to back this. Electronic cigarette vapors from good quality eliquid contain only minute traces of carcinogenic materials (as do nicotine chewing gum and patches) and far fewer carcinogens than tobacco cigarettes. There are no health risks found as of now, a
nything new introduced to the body has the potential to cause side effects or result in an allergic reaction.

We had a neuroscientist come in the other day with a Eleaf Istick 50 W with a Sub tank, looking for e-juice He said himself that he's participated in the research on vaping and smoking. He didn't personally find it harmful. He loves vaping, but has never smoked in his life. "It's a great thing" is what he said.

There is still a lot of research that needs to be done, however its clear that vaping is still a lot less
harmful than smoking a cig will ever be. Good Luck!

Gotta love the istick 50w. I have two! I see vaping as a safe alternative to analogs. Folks enjoy that I don't smell like an ash tray anymore. I can vape in the car without ruining the interior with the awful smell of analogs.

I'm using a micro-USB-charging all-in-one starter kit and it's working great for me (still cigarette-free!). The kit I bought is a Kangertech Evod MEGA and it only cost 30 bucks.

I'm still a beginner, just sharing this because it's working for me and you mentioned being on a tight budget.

Had a kanger when I was first starting out. It lasted 4 months and then wouldn't hold a charge. That was enough of kanger for me. I do hope you have better luck with your gear.
