Been messing with mine a bit and it is a pretty good atty but...
9 different sized orings?

Don't get me wrong,it'll push both clouds and flavor to the extent that an rta can but it's a bit over complicated for what it is.
why isn't the chimney nut milled into the top fill ring?
Why isn't the drip tip ring milled into the top cap?
Why does the afc ring get so tight when the atty is on my mod?
Just things to think about for the v2...
Thank you for your advices. We will make it simple in V2 :)

Personally, I'd prefer they keep the design as is and just do a better job machining and finishing the thing.

Being that I tend to be a bit clumsy, What glass tanks will fit the Cthulhu? And where can I pick one up? I'm probably going to need more than one spare... accidents happen...

Well another day and another RTA. In our never ending quest for flavour we took a look at the Cthulhu RTA. The biggest selling point on this one is it has the largest juice channels currently on the RTA market. It is priced very reasonably and is made from medical grade stainless steel.

The design is very similar to Youde’s Goliath and Goblin, but with an increased deck size and juice channels as well as top filling! The deck is easy to build and you can jam in 3mm coils if you wish (2.5mm performed better). We built a 0.35 Ohm 24 gage setup and found it didn’t like that much heat so we went down to a 0.4 Ohm 26 gage for review purposes.

Wicking this bad boy is much easier than some of the other RTAs out there thanks to those juice channels and it is next to impossible to get a dry hit (if you chain super hard, like 4-5 long hits in a row you can get the taste of a dry hit starting, but who vapes like that).

Juice consumption seems reasonable, a full 4ml tank lasting at least a couple hours. Airflow is good, it’s not massive as Cthulhu Mod advertises, the Goblin still has an edge over the rest. We found you get slightly smoother and better taste with the AFC slightly closed, which means there is a bottle neck inside, or we think it could be the rough edges inside the chimney.

That brings us to build quality and design. The materials are very good, threading isn’t janky but looks and feels rough, and that leeds to the overall finish of the internals, or the lack there of a final finish. It feels like production of these units were rushed, there wasn’t the final care of buffing and polishing the edges of the airflow holes, chimney, or threadings. When you get yours double check the airflow channels at the bottom, ours came with drill shavings still attached inside, we had to clear them out.

Top filling works very well and is worry and mess free. No leaking of any sort has occurred. As with most RTAs they seem to like being set below 4 Volts so watch the wattages on this one.

So what do we think? The Cthulhu is a promising design and has many improvements over the Goblin and the Goliath but, and this is a big but. The flavour is a little harsh and we think it’s the build finish that is the culprit here. If the edges were smooth and silky we believe this RTA would be on top, but that just isn’t the case. The fact that this is much easier to wick and doesn’t suffer from the dry hit susceptibility of the competition still make it a considered purchase, but we are all about flavour and we still give the upper hand currently to the Goliath.

Update: Okay so it seems wicking this puppy a certain way makes a big difference! We are upping our rating and opinion of this bad boy. Wick this very similarly to the Goblin (without as much fuss), trim to the deck and have very little wick in the channels (like just a hair), most of the wick sitting on the top of the deck. Make sure you wick the coils just enough, don’t over stuff them. Have the coils 1-2 mm off the air holes and this RTA gives great flavour and no dry hits (you can take really long hauls to your heart’s desire). Wicking just enough rather than as much as possible really makes a difference on flavour. Maybe this one has the edge after all. Make sure to check out Butt Kickers review and tutorial (link is below).

Pros:
– Large build deck
– Doesn’t Leak
– Clean Design Aesthetic
– Easy to Build
– Good Flavour (but a little harsh)
– Easy Top Filling
– Good Airflow
– Great Wicking

Cons:
– Poor Final Finish Internally
– Threading is a little rough
– Rough/Sharp edges inside the chimney
– Airflow ring very hard to adjust
– Airflow a little rough (probably the sharp internal edges)
– Metal drill shavings in airflow channels needed to be scraped and cleared

I've been using mine for a little over a week now and you can color me impressed.
once I worked the kinks out and re wicked with reyon it's an impressive tank.
I still think the design is a bit over complicated but the overall daily use is easy peasy.
the airflow is on par with some of the flavor rdas(Freakshow, tobh, etc) and will kick clouds just the same.

the provided .3ohm dual coils really shine around 15-20w And 7/8 open airflow.
Open it up and crank the power and it's deffinatly a fogger.

For flavor,my list goes like this.
smok vct
Cthulhu mod
orchid
delta II
lemo 1/drop
kanger mini

I'd definitely buy another.;)

I tend to agree with you on the flavor with the lower wattages. I almost always vape the Cthulhu below 30 watts, usually around 25w.

have you also noticed a difference between watts vs. viscosity?
I have a couple 50/50 flavors that are amazing @15w but fall flat above 17w.
I also have 20/80vg that has almost no flavor under 20w.

I have not tried any 50/50 through it yet. But, on the higher VG juices, i will agree that 20w tends to be the floor on them.

FIY, if you fit your Cthulhu with a Kayfun 34mm PC tank, capacity increases to well over 4 ml measured. Filled this one with exactly 4 ml and had at least 1/8" empty space left.

Seems like getting the machining and QC issues sorted would be the best first priority to have. The design is already good, the quality is what seems to be lacking. I hope you guys get this worked out. For your benefit and ours.

From what I've heard their RDA (Hastur), the qc is much better.

I gotta order one of these, love my derringer....but would love a wider drip tip(to drip straight into), would love split center post(for ease of building), and top airflow so i don't over drip. Seems to fit the bill.

I recently got a velocity, perfect rda except the large chamber kills flavor and heat.(love a hot vape, have to run velocity 30 watts higher to get similar heat to derringer) Make the v2 with velocity style posts and it may come close to perfection. Post design super easy to build, and gives more room in drip well.

Anyone know where these are in stock?

Btw, some may see the threads started by cthulhu as manufacturer spam, but to me it seems like you may care enough to get involved in feedback and such, really hope the hastur stands up to what i think it can do, when i finally get one.

Just keep in mind, if you over drip this type of atty, you will be boiling your juice to 400 degrees which will not only heat up your mod, but burn your lips too. I occasionally make that mistake with my Aeolus..!

Been looking for a top air flow aty but haven't seen one that motivated me. This is a really nice design and I'll be picking one up when they are released, great price for an authentic.

I don't like the unnecessarily thick, which makes it unnecessarily wide drip tip. Otherwise it looks great. Just my opinion.

There is an insert for a standard 510 DT which is probably how I will run it with a friction fit DT.

Having to use an adapter to make a 510 drip tip fit is a no-go for me. I would rather see them offer two different top caps. One for an oversize tip and one for 510 tips. I realize these are my opinions only, but maybe I'll get lucky and the OP will pitch the idea to his boss.

The Manta v2 RDA comes pretty close to being perfect for me. My ideal atty would be a Stumpy deck with a Manta v2 bell - just for the better design of the posts on the Stumpy. Sadly, it's not possible to mix those two...

The manta looks like it would be good with a single coil, 2 post is so 2013 for dual coil builds.
Been digging single coil in my flavor rda's since getting a TC mod though.

I'm a single-coiler myself - be it with kanthal or with nickel/TC: I find dual coils are no better than a good single coil build *in an atty that's designed for single coil*, but are twice the hassle. I'm pretty sure most people who prefer dual coils don't have an atty that performs well in single coil mode - there aren't many - and as a result don't even know what results a proper single coil build can yield.

Can't wait to get my hands on this either! I saw a pre-sale on one of the sites I'm using to buy my things from. However, I'll have to wait for my next paycheck, before I can order anything.

Can't complain for the price, nice vape. The air control sleeve and top cap are a bit loose, can you give the size of the orings that come on it so I can more easily pick up some slightly bigger orings.

I tried this out on a friend's build today. It had very good flavor. I haven't used a ton of RDA's by any measure, but this one was probably the best flavor RDA I have tried.
