After doing a half dozen or so rebuilds on these coils, I decided that I'd like to do a tutorial for those interested. I'm doing it for two reasons. The first is, after watching a few YouTube videos on the process and then experimenting, I realized that there are some easier ways to to about the actual disassembly process. Secondly, I figured I can't be the only person who hates sitting through a 20 minute video for 3 minutes of actual information, so a step by step photo/text tutorial may be appreciated.

If anyone notices anything missing or that should be made clearer, please let me know. Its my first vaping related tutorial, so I'm sure I have plenty I can spruce up. Hope it helps someone out there.

The tutorial is about 30 images. I linked it as an imgur link for bandwidth issues, but if a mod tells me that it should be all done right in the post with no link, I'd be happy to do so.

I still haven't managed to get the tops off any of mine. I think they're welded on.....:(

It might take a bit of force, especially the first time.

First, double check your grip with the pliers. Make sure they're not across the seam. Also, if you have them, try a few different screw drivers to pry with. You have to find the right size (I'd tell you what size mine was, but I have a cheap unlabeled Harbor Freight set). Try to find one as long as possible and hold it at the very end for leverage

I just don't think I'm strong enough. Done the pliers, with and without the tape, I've wiggled, cussed, tried the screwdrivers, and threatened to pull out the hammer....teeth don't work either :)D).....may have to get the husband to try it for me. But I'm learning to rebuild them the hard way pretty well....;)

I'm sure you can go through the hole in the cap if you want, but it is going to limit the size of your coil even more. You'd have to either go very low ohm or very thin gauge. Make your husband do it. He won't even mind. Every time my girlfriend makes me open the pickles/spaghetti sauce I feel like a god!

Lol! Nah, he wouldn't mind, I'm sure. But I will tell ya that some of the old coils I've pulled out of there are a bit frightening. I wish I'd taken a picture of the one with four very uneven wraps, spaced fairly well apart. Looked like a third grader mighta done it.
It is a little harder to do with the cap on, but I always use the flashlight on my phone to look in there and make sure the coil isn't touching the sides.

Teresa, get two 11mm or 7/16" open end wrenches and you can twist the top cap off with them. That's how I get mine off. Pretty easy that way.

Why not use the rba it came with though?

Rba is easier lol but I can see why it's fun.

Neat video, looking forward to future tutorials. I totally suck @ rebuilding myself, Sell all the supplies and just have my coworkers build mine. So big upps to you.

Personally, I have not been able to get the RBA deck to work with thicker juices. The OCC have much bigger channels

Thank you for putting the time and effort into this tutorial. I just put my last new OCC coil in my tank yesterday & I am determined to start rebuilding them or using the RBA instead of buying more coils. This will be very helpful!!!

I actually prefer the vape from the rba, it just tastes different. But sometimes it's more convenient to pop in a stock coil and go on about my day. And it's very convenient to use the stocks for testing my mixes. I go thru 4 or 5 of them at a time just doing that, rewick and test, over and over.

Good to hear. I am just too chicken to try building a coil so I have stuck with the OCC coils. :D They are convenient but they do get expensive.

Great tutorial! I just rebuilt a Kanger coil a few days ago and had no idea the cap was removable...I could've used the first 24 gauge I built had I run across your tutorial first, but it was just a little too wide to insert through the cap hole so I went with 26. I'll definitely be coming back to this for reference, thanks for sharing!

I recommend starting an RBA collection that's bigger than anyone can possibly need. Works for me!
I thought that was hilarious!
Thanks for the tutorial!

Haha, I rebuilt mines also without knowing the tops were also removable. Definitely glad I ran into this.:D

Glad I could help.

On a side note, please let me know how 24 gauge works out. I have some doubts about it. First, its going to be very hard to get a decent resistance that fits in the coil casing. I'm not sure how low Subtanks can really be safely run, so please keep that in mind. The other issue you may have is the wire being too thick to seat the contact pin flush.

Any success in rebuilding the new VERTICAL OCC'S?
I know the old horizontal OCC's can be rebuilt with a Vertical Coil using the method in the above tutorial, but have you had any luck rebuilding the New Vertical OCC's with a new Vertical Coil is what Im asking.
(The top cap on the new Vertical OCC isnt removable like these old horizontal OCC's )

I have done it. It's not easy. After about 30ft of .28 Kanthal I figured out how to use a coil master. Now it's easy. Coil is smaller but you can use more cotton. Ohm's are higher.

Okay....
so how are you getting everything in there without the top coming off?
Any problems with wicking on the rebuild?
Hows the airflow and temp on the rebuild in comparison to the Vertical OCC's?
(They seem to run really cool even at 35-40w, which I like alot)

Pics and a tutorial would be nice!

Valium & Tequila. I have some very expensive surgical pliers made in Germany. I wet the cotton with juice and wiggle it in. Line it up to the holes in the side, set the silicone insulator & presto. It's a major pain in the ass. I do it, because it's my hobby. I can buy them, but that is not as much fun.

do you know where one can order the RBA?
Fast Tech has them. Your best bet is to watch Vapor Joes. He's straight Up, & will tell you the truth. 101 vapes is good also. I only make suggestions. Fast Tech is good, but you have to wait. I pick up 8 or 9Mods with different flavors and vape the Hell out of them every day. I just love to vape. & I'm not dead from smoking.

Valium and Tequila.... love it!

Yeah I dont think Im gonna mess with those little bastards.
My patience level is slim to none, and honestly Id rather be outside screwing around rather than cooped up indoors pulling my hair out over these things.
Its a really good recipe for punching holes in the wall.

I understand. I keep my pistols in another building. TV's get expensive.

the new occ v2 coils come apart also no top cap to remove

just screw into base and twist and pull on the outer shell with pliers and the whole outer shell comes off

Nice tutorial, and nice pictures too.

A guy at work gave me 2 of these heads to try rebuilding for him but they're different.
They don't have the split, ie, just one piece, maybe from an early model IDK.

The 0.5 ohm head has juice holes larger than 3mm.
Did a 26ga 5 wrap on a 3mm rod, my ohm meter reads 1.2 ohms, seems like it should be lower.
Might need to try a 4 wrap.
Will test again when I've got my own subtank mini (ordered), as I need the 510 base to screw on my tester.

The 1.2 ohm head has around 2.4mm juice holes.

Both heads have the slots on the bottom for wires but are opposite from juice holes wtf.
I can turn the bottom pin and it rotates the coil inside, lol.
Looks like a candidate for a short when screwing into the base:eek:

they are the newer heads the one piece ones and real easy to do the vertical build in and then put the cap back on after top cap it tight to remove first time
