My wife hates it when I go on about stuff like that, says I'm full of absolutely useless knowledge.
Personally, I think that's why she loves me :D

I think it's simple: having Food AND Drugs Administrated by the same organization cannot be a good idea. ;)

Particularly when they are pretty bought, staffed and paid for by BP.

With my luck, I'd get on the show and the categories would be 'Soap Opera Stars' and 'Famous Lithuanian Barbeque Chefs'.
My area of expertise is, of course, Latvian Barbeque Chefs.
And shiny things...

A friend said goodbye to their kitty tonight because the fda dithered on a waiver for a drug the fda has categorically denied for almost a decade, yet its saving countless cats lives overseas...just frustrated on his behalf...

Importing it is near impossible the FDA has absolutely forbidden it to be imported without a waiver, and it has to clear customs which takes about 2 weeks...it could've saved this kitty's life. They were able to obtain a small dose - its horridly expensive - around $500-700 USD per DOSE, they found some at a vet in the Philly area who was willing to sell it, the got it to the kitty in MD, but he passed away a few hours after the first dose. It was simply too late.

The drug is Interferon Omega - from what I read its mostly used to treat anti-viral resistant parvo in dogs and FIP, FHCV in cats overseas. It was approved and started use in 2001 in the UK. Virbagen has a US division, the FDA last commented on its denial in 2005. They've refused to take up the issue again. And with the # of people who want EVERY form of animal testing outlawed, without any form of 'except in some circumstances' - they end up in situations like this where there is a treatment that might help, its not even considered experimental in the US, its simply outlawed except on FDA whim, if they feel like approving a waiver you can get it...but they don't approve many waivers, and are apparently more likely to approve a canine patient waiver than a feline patient waiver.

Interferon omega is related to the common human cancer and AIDS drug Interferon-alpha which can be synthetically produced. Interferon omega is produced by many domestic mammals, most commonly cats, dogs, and rabbits (from what I've read). Interferon-alpha can also be used to treat FIP, but its not as effective as interferon alpha and seems to be just as expensive, but its more readily available because it can be created, rather than needing to be extracted from 'lab animals'. If only the FDA would get its head out of its ass and actually approve the drug to be imported - even for testing purposes, it could go a long way to increasing pet life expectancy and potentially eliminate a major cause of feline death in this country.

But I know they won't because hey they're clearly more concerned with profits than lives. Found out a friend's 18yr old daughter is again struggling to get the cancer treatment she needs - same basic story.

Been watching it and I really want to like the show but I'm finding it hard to care about any of the characters. The only semi-compelling ones are Gabe and the old man.
I appreciate the 'sorta' unique treatment of the genre so I'm going to keep watching and hope I can get into it...

Now 'Dominion' on the other hand... The ONLY shallow, one-dimensional character is, oddly enough, the Archangel Michael. They try for a back story and depth, but, to me, it falls kinda flat.
'Defiance' - good stuff.
'Falling Skies' - even better stuff
'The Last Ship' - who cares?

Really? When did you decide to shave it all off? It's kinda the fashion these days. I shaved mine for two years but last November (my avatar) I decided to grow mine long

My 8 year old couldn't look at me without laughing the 1 time i shaved the beard and stach.
Hahaha. Can't even remember what it's like. My eleven year old daughter has never seen me with hair- she laughed herself sick when she saw me in costume.

I shaved it the summer of '01. I have very thick hair and it grows FAST so I usually kept it in a ponytail. The weather was stifling hot and humid. I got out of the shower one day and was sweating before I even got dried off. Right then and there, I grabbed my dog trimmer and buzzed all my hair off- half an hour later and it was shaved smooth and have kept it that way ever since.
People freaked out because they always commented on my 'gorgeous, long hair' and now no one can imagine me with hair...

Looking for the flash drive that has pics from the year before. I shaved my goatee and moustache into a Fu Manchu and dyed it jet black. Wore a pair of purple John Lennon glasses and an old nehru jacket

Umm, serious q.. when you did that, do you mean for fancy dress or actually real life?

Needless to say- I'm not overly self conscious about my looks. It was that way for about two weeks until my goatee grew back.
It still looked weird though cuz I used regular hair color to dye the Fu Manchu. Had stripes down my beard for almost two months til it grew out

That's awesome. I live in Brighton and it's a very liberal and open minded town. It's one of the reasons people move here. You can wear and be what you want. People just look and say "well this is Brighton" and that's it. There's no restriction. Very hard to find places like that. Hey find those pics

Certainly gonna try but it might not be until I get off work tonight. I have about 2 dozen flash drives to sort thru...

I got a bit conscious last year about all the personal data I had on all my flash drives. They're such small things and get lost so easily or just chucked into bags, especially micro sd cards. So I searched everywhere, found them all and wiped everything. Everything is backed up now on external hard drives. It's just more manageable. I use the flash drives for temp only and then either upload it to the net or onto hdd

I need to do that. I'm an avid photographer and, when I started cataloging my shots, flash drives were the most convenient way to go.
Now, large capacity external dives have dropped in price to the point I need to get one and just use the flash drives as backups- just in case

Ah that's so funny. Near the end when the guy on the camera sounds really nervous and says "I don't want none of it" lol. Does anyone actually deep fry stuff anymore?

Hahaha! Can't say I've ever done that but I have jumped up thinking I was late but usually caught myself before it went too far.
