HeadInClouds, really glad you put your site together. So far I have made only two of your recipes and they are incredible. Yesterday I put my third order in for more FA flavorings. I have been doing DIY for about 6 months now using TFA flavors and have had far too many mixes that got poured down the drain. One question I haven't found answered anywhere, are any of the FA liquids tank crackers?

It really depends on the type of plastic and glue used in your particular tank. No FA flavors instantly melt certain plastics (like, for example, TFA Ripe Banana does). As far as tanks go, cheap glue seems more sensitive than cheap plastic, so be careful if your tanks are low end and you're vaping mixes with a lot of: Fuji, White Peach, Cardamom, Anise, citrus flavors, Cola, Kiwi, mints - maybe Black Currant, Pineapple, Papaya, and Passion Fruit, too.

Plastic tanks have improved a lot since I began using them, but cheap Fasttech knockoffs I've had, when they failed, tended to be at glued seams. Even then, it wasn't instant and it did require more than just a little touch of those flavorings. I just use glass now - they last longer for me!

Thanks for the info. I like my Aqua V2's but don't really like having to use the metal tanks if I don't have to.

I ended up having too many orders to do today, so looks like I'll be cyber mixing with ya! LOL

I have the following printed out and ready to go: Raspberry Moroccan Mint Tea, Gingered Peaches & Cream, Goey Coconut Cookies and the Lemon Pudding Cake. Might also try the Mama J premix with the Oatmeal cookies (I forget the name).

Okay.......I'll take your word for it.

Will that be close to the Gooey Coconut Cookies? Meaning, should I make something else instead because they will taste close to the same?

And I just mixed the Lemon Pudding Cake......how do I describe this, except to say that I can literally taste the sweet, gooey outside of a freshly baked bundt cake (and in the oven in my head, it is definitely a bundt cake)? If I close my eyes, I feel the need to lick the crumbs and sugar off my lips....this is freakin' amazing....:D

Is the only HIC concentrate exclusive to Mama J's the Oatmeal Cream Pie? I'm placing an order and would like to get any others that I can't make myself. Any other FA suggestions?

@HeadInClouds Do you have a mango sticky rice recipe you can post on gumroad. I'll buy it right now. The Vape Kitchen make a really good one if you need some inspiration.

New today at HIC's Mixes : Prickly Peach

p Prickly Peach 200.jpg
"A fusion of bold white peach, sweet-and-tart prickly pear, orange zest, and subtle accents of tropical fruit. This is an "edgy" peach-juice flavor, designed especially for fans of FlavourArt White Peach. This recipe requires Inawera Kaktus and FlavourArt flavorings."

After much consideration, I finally decided to try my first HIC recipe. I went with the freebie 3 Milky Musketeers, as the ideal chocolate vape has managed to elude me over the entire course of my year plus long mixing career. I've made a few decent ones, a couple of good ones, but all have proven ultimately forgettable and fallen out of grace and rotation. Now, as I sit here ruminating with the sweet taste of fluffy chocolate nougat lingering on my tongue, I find myself ecstatic and enraged all at once. How DARE you make my efforts seem so clumsy and inept? How dare you, sir?

So basically I ended up buying 3 HIC recipes and 80 dollars worth of flavorings to go along with them. Vanilla Silk Pudding and Baklava are currently aging on my darkest shelf. I imagine that my other mixes, my beloved ADV's of recent months, are in there staring at HIC's mixes with baleful gleams in their eyes. "He's gonna HATE you," my RY4 says to the Baklava. "Get lost, greaser, nobody wants you here," growls my acetoin-laced Vanillaraptor at the Vanilla Silk Pudding (and yes, I dubbed my recipe Vanillaraptor. You can stop laughing now).

As I'm already a huge fan of FA's Lemon Sicily (my own simple Lemon Coolers recipe is one of my favorites, and not likely to be superceded by any other citrus dessert vape), I reckon that Lemon Pudding Cake is going to end up on the dark shelf sooner or later too.

I tip my hat to you, HIC. If VSP chases the mighty Vanillaraptor to the brink of extinction, I shall let you know.

@reteox I hate @HeadInClouds as I was using TFA, CAP, Inawera etc ( around 90+) except very few of FA flavors (strawberry and Lychee) but now I have more then 110 FA flavors along with those 90+ big bottles but trust me I never regret this and mostly all of his recipes are great, the one lemon pudding cake is one of my favorite too I am sure you will like it. The only trick is some time in increase strength of flavors by 1 or 2 % more as my taste buds are not nice a like HIC. But as I always says HIC is one of the legend of this E Liquid community.

As I'm sure many of us have, I've experimented with pretty much everything out there by now, but most of my experience with FA was very early in my DIY career. I latched on to a few companies, primarily CA and FW, as I started getting better at blending aromatics. I suspect that somewhere along the way I convinced myself that I liked the flavorings offered by those companies more than FA, but in reality, I was just getting more proficient at mixing and those flavorings just happened to be the ones I was using when I made certain "breakthroughs."

With FA all but forgotten in my eagerness to try something new, VZ's SC and Gourmet line introduced me to the wonderful world of super-concentrates and the necessity of using a gentler touch with them. Although I've never been overly concerned with small amounts of diketones in my juice, I welcome the opportunity to revisit FA's menu with the experience I have now, and your recipes have provided a fantastic insertion point (although the missus would call it "an excuse" ha!) for me to do just that.

My only concern going in is the butyric acid that I detect in many of FA's creamy flavorings, even unlikely ones like their Coconut. I fear my palate may be overly sensitive to this compound, in much the same way that some palates are sensitive to diketones. I still have nightmares from my first Vienna Cream standalone at 7%. And yes, someone actually recommended that to my neophyte self as a good starting point.

Anyway, your VSP should be the ultimate test to prove/disprove my theory regarding the butyric acid, as most of the flavorings in it probably utilize BA as a diketone sub. After the great success I've found with your 3MM recipe, I am hopeful! That stuff is incredible, and I seriously need to lower my nic level for the next batch because of it.

I'm hoping my fears are unfounded, because I am a HUGE vanilla junkie.

Happened to me too...I have recipes I have made and like...A couple are adv for me...but was looking to try some recipes by others...and I have around 200 recipes ....but I always keep looking...(it's like a sickness with me)..lol..came across Hics (which I had been reading for a long while anyway)...My concern was, do I wanna buy recipes when I get tons on the web...and if I like them then I will go broke buying em all and the flavors needed... ..lol...but anyway I bought my first ..HICʼs Quikberry Pink...since I know the flavor to expect ..as my test recipe...and it was a winner! I have only purchased about 4 so far...but I'm getting ready to get 3 more ....Thanks Hic....

Thank you, @StuPot, I've been following that thread since its inception. ;)

Don't misunderstand, I'm not questioning the safety of BA as a flavoring component, I'm just saying that my palate seems to be very sensitive to what I call "the puke note." I've read many accounts of people describing the taste of D/AP/A in eliquid as melted or burnt plastic, and those people are lucky enough to find any flavoring that contains diketones instantly off-putting. Unfortunately I find them totally agreeable taste-wise, and essential to a few of my favorite recipes.

In the case of BA (or whichever particular ester results from its use in flavorings), I've found that my reaction is similar to those sensitive to D/AP/A; but instead of tasting melted plastic, I taste vomit. I've sampled vendor juice touted as diketone-free, stuff that my vaping friends swear is the best juice ever, that literally tasted to me like I just threw up in my own mouth. It's been very disheartening, as I would like to move away from using diketones in my own juice entirely; but obviously, if the best replacement for smooth and creamy is stomach bile, it's not really an option for me.

I also struggle with the fact that since my taste buds fully recovered from smoking shortly after I started vaping, most everything I've tried from vendors tastes way too strong to me. It's one of the reasons why I started DIY in the first place, in fact: So I could use less flavoring. After reading so many accounts of HIC mixers increasing his percentages in many of his recipes, I'm all but convinced that his taste preferences are inline with my own. Amusingly, I may be the only guy who ends up decreasing his percentages to find my sweet spot. If there's any single complaint I could possibly hope to level against 3MM, it would be that I find the stock version just a wee bit too strong! :D

I'm happy to report that I'm getting no "puke note" from this Vanilla Silk Pudding at one day old! Just a mild, pleasant, creamy vanilla. The Sweet Woodruff finish is an essential touch. On exhale, it brings to mind a more subtle version of TFA's Honeysuckle, one of my absolute favorites from their line that adds a delicate and sweet floral topnote to vanilla recipes. I'm going to see if I can squeeze a drop or two of it into this recipe for the next batch and see what develops. Meanwhile, the current batch is going to be vaped continuously until it's gone (or at least until I get around to sampling the Baklava).

Well done, HIC!

I'm really pleased to hear that! Next time you mix it, you could try a bit before you add woodruff to taste where I was stuck for such a long time. It was a patch of real woodruff, picked then wilted until it became fragrant, that led me to try it here. Well, that and some German woodruff-flavored gummies.

p.s. - I'm liking the addition of 0.1% (tenth of one percent) TFA Holiday Spice for very subtle nutmeg, just like I prefer on real vanilla-based pudding.

Perfect, I'll soon be making a dilution of Holiday Spice to use in another of your recipes, so I'll add a smidgen of that to a test batch of VSP as well. I've used CA's Egg Nog to good effect in vanilla recipes, but it's one of the flavors currently on their reformulation to-do list, so I'm sure it's laced with AP/A.

Is that a hint of ginger I detect peeking out from behind the nutmeg in Holiday Spice or is my nose playing Christmas tricks on me?!

I don't taste ginger in it, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

Flavorah makes one, too? I didn't know that.
I do know of these:
http://www.ecigexpress.com/diy-e-li...flavors/sweet-woodruff-by-jungle-flavors.html
and
http://www.vaperstek.org/woodruff-flavor/ (this is by German Flavours)
I have not yet tried either one, but I have it on trustworthy opinion that the first one is superior to TFA. I've seen some praise online for the second one, but not from anyone I really know. I plan to pick that up with my next nic order. In my opinion, any reasonable woodruff flavoring would work in that recipe. Since Germans are so into woodruff, and German vapers like those two, I wouldn't hestitate to use either of those. The only question is whether they're roughly the same strength as TFA.

I've also written to TFA asking them to make a new batch! I prefer to use theirs, because they disclose their ingredients and showed no diketones in their Sweet Woodruff. THE MORE PEOPLE WHO ASK, THE BETTER!
TFA's contact page: http://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/t-contact.aspx
Tell them they have the only Sweet Woodruff flavor shown for sure to have no diketones, and WE WANT MORE! (The stash at Wizard Labs right now won't last forever) I know it's been a slow seller for TFA, so it might take some convincing.

HIC's Old-Fashioned Doughnut was on the menu for dessert this evening.

I'll be honest: As a born-and-bred southern gentleman, I've always been partial to the classic Krispy Kreme style yeast doughnut. That's not to say I don't round my dozen assorted out with a couple of cake doughnuts every now and then, because I absolutely do. So even though I knew exactly what I was heading into with this recipe, my expectations were still high.

This vape brings to mind the unleavened sour cream doughnuts my grandma used to get from a local mom n' pop corner shop in Clayton, NC when I was a kid. She didn't do much driving, so a round trip to Raleigh and back just for Sunday breakfast before church was pretty much out of the question. It was just as well, because those sour cream doughnuts were at least as tasty as anything on KK's menu. Sometimes she would let me dunk them in her coffee when my mom wasn't looking, even though I'm pretty sure we both knew that my mom wouldn't have cared. Hell, it was the seventies after all. :D

There's a vendor at the NC State Fair that sells these damnably delicious little bastards too, and he's a regular stop every year for me. KK still has a sour cream doughnut on their menu, but it lacks the spice necessary to make it truly "old-fashioned."

My only regret with this recipe is that I didn't wait until tomorrow morning to sample it, because now I'm really craving a cup of coffee.
