Hello all,

Newbie at DIY here. Im planning to buy my first start up materials in the next few days and just wanted some advice from the veterans out there.

I plan on getting (1) 120 ML PG, (1) 120 ML VG, but not sure what type of nic to get.

I like flavor, and most of the flavors Im into are 70% VG / 30% PG rated. And I like my nic level at a 6mg.

I plan on also getting about a dozen flavors to experiment with as well. Im thinking of making small batches, maybe like 5-10 ML bottles to see what I like and don't like.

Any suggestions on what nic to get? I noticed some nic is VG based or PG based; lets say its VG based, when I use that juice calculator do I have to input values for the VG by itself or consider the VG mixed with the nicotine as well?

So confused, thanks!

You would count for the vg in the nic. If you use a calc like ejuicemeup by breakthru software it factors that in. Unless you are going for max vg alot of DIYer's use nic in pg because it is easier to get into the syringe that vg. When I use vg I get those syringes that they give at the pharmacy for dosing out kids meds and have no problems. I vape 6mg and I buy 100mg nic and it lasts me a very long time.

Guess i should add that for 100mg nic I use so little I found some 1ml syringes on amazon (100ct box for under $10) that dont use a luer lock tip on them. They have the same kind of tip as the kids med dosing syringe so it works for high vg nic to.

Vapers Tek and I haven't looked back since. It's the smoothest, most transparent that I have used. If that's what you're after I suggest checking it out. Bull City carries it along with tons of flavoring. It's usually my one stop shop!

Vaperstek is where I got mine.. I've since come across several people talking about how clear and taste free the nic is from vaperstek... I have never bought from anyone else so I can't give an accurate review based on other nic sources but Vaperstek is where I'll be going back to... very clear and tastefree! Also $20 for 120ml of 100mg nic isn't bad for price...

I also went with PG based nic due to it being easier to work with... if you've never worked with VG you'll come to realize the difference in PG and VG as soon as you try to draw some VG through a 18 gauge needle! lol

Bull city no longer carries nicotine for purchase.

copy/paste from the website for clarification
Dear Customers:

As some of you may be aware North Carolina has introduced new regulations affecting the vaping community that will be enacted beginning June 1, 2015. This includes a new tax that will be assessed on sales of products containing nicotine. As a result, we are suspending all sales of nicotine, effective immediately. We are in the process of working out an arrangement where VapersTek nicotine, DIY supplies and an even larger selection of flavorings will be available to order all in one place! Our facility in Durham will become singularly focused on meeting the rapidly growing demand for flavorings suitable for DIY. We thank you for being loyal customers and look forward to handling all of your DIY needs in the weeks to come.

Sincerely,

Your friends at Bull City Vapor
Wow, my apologies. I didn't know that. That's really unfortunate. I'll still go bcv for most things though as their customer service is top notch!

I couldn't agree more with this...also very quick to ship! If BCV carries it and I need it they are who I purchase through!

For the record, I've been extremely happy with the nicotine from My Freedom Smokes.

They just did a 11 person blind test of 4 nic suppliers, the post with the info is here: Who has tried Vapers Tek nic base?

Looks like Nude Nicotine was the top but as the poster mentions VT is great as well and he would not have any problems using either.

I just finished a sample bottle I purchased from Ecigexpress. It is Nicselect. It's very good. (For me).

I got a bottle from www.v-ecigs.com which also uses NicSelect as well as a sample bottle from Nude Nicotine and I can't say I notice the difference. I am a newbie to DIY but not a newbie from vaping copious amounts of e-juice :D. I just mixed up 10ml of the same recipe using the 2 different nics and it was about the same. I guess the right way to do it is unflavored but we are talking sample sizes here so I need some tasty!

My two cents, I used to use RTSVapes nicotine. I thought it was the bees knees until I bought some VapersTek, and that has made a big difference in my juices. That may just be because a change is always good on the taste buds, but it is super clear, and adds zero extra taste to any of my juices.

2 thumbs up for BCV flavor purchasing. They're great.

EDIT
To the op, avoid my mistake. When you buy your nicotine, do understand that it is going to last a LOT longer than you would think at 100mg/ml, my first batch went skunk before I finished half of it from rtsvapes. Buy this (or something similar) http://www.amazon.com/AMBER-Boston-Round-Glass-Bottle/dp/B00J3H4NCW and throw it in the freezer. Only take the cap off to measure out your nicotine, and put it back on as soon as possible to avoid oxidation.

How long does 100MG/ML last before it goes bad?

Well I had my RTSVapes bottle for exactly a year, but I suspect since I smoked 1mg/ml due to exclusively dripping, and often, I didn't notice it's slow descent. If I were smoking something like 6-12mg I suspect I would have noticed maybe 7-8 months in. However I kept mine in the white plastic bottle (bad), didn't refrigerate (bad), so it probably went bad a lot faster than it would have had I properly stored it. I want to say my current batch will run out within a few months since I am now selling to my circle of vape friends, but if it weren't that way, I'd imagine me storing it in my glass container in my mini fridge (set to freeze) would make it last well over a year. I'm also making sure not to leave the cap off for minutes at a time but rather a few seconds to measure and disperse.

EDIT

Kwtony while I only have experience with 2 distributors for nicotine, I suspect I won't look elsewhere for my next batch.

I've tried Wizard Labs, RTS, VT and someone sent me a sample from Nude Nicotine. VT is the only one I've purchased more than once. I don't mind nic that has a throat hit to it, I like throat hit. But some of those were super harsh. My VT nic has never been, or gotten, harsh.

I just got my nicotine; does it need to be put in a glass container like the one you mentioned to be put the fridge, or can I put it in the fridge in the plastic bottle which it came in?

Really it's user preference. With the recent hype of chemicals in plastics, I never trust it anymore. Especially given the nature of nicotine,, I find it not to be worth the potential risks of leaving it in plastic. I would always recommend putting your nic in a glass bottle, but again it's really up to you in regard to chemical leak. In regard to keeping it fresh, definitely place it in the fridge or preferably freezer.

How much did you get? If you got a large quantity, get some smaller glass amber bottles and split it up. If it's a quantity you think you'll use in a month or 2, then cool, dark cabinet will be fine, or fridge. Just keep it put up from younglings or critters.
