Why do hybrid top caps exist? All I see is danger.

Hi people.

I wanted to ask a fairly simple question or 2, so here goes.

I mainly use regulated mods, but may get a mech soonish. All I know is no hybrid top cap.

Why, when there was a perfectly good system in place, did they change to a much more dangerous method of connecting RDA/atty? Can they make more units?

I understand a hybrid top cap allows direct contact with the battery, where as another system would have wire connections from the positive and negative to a female 510.

So, with all the explosions, damage, and things I see, my question is, Why? Do people enjoy the danger aspect? As I vape for flavour and clouds, not a 'thrill' which maybe these are? I see a battery exploding, whilst the unit is in my mouth, as the opposite of fun. I see it as danger where there needs to be none.

I put this in the mech mod section, as I guessed more people would reply.

Also, If I was to get a mech, what is a good one? I can build my coild to the correct resistance from memory now, and just give a final check on my device and ohm checker, which is what I will do if I get a mech.

The only reason I am interested, is some are things of beauty. If I am honest, it would probably be the least used, but some are very pretty.

So, if anyone has the answer, that would be great.

Thanks people, Conan.

EDIT:Btw, if I get a mech, it will be 0.7 and above to start with, due to the low amp draw from the battery.

Yes. What was the question?

Well, you've answered your own query for the most part. Hybrid topcaps replace battery positive post to topcap plus topcap to atomizer positive pin connections (plural) with a direct atomizer positive pin to battery positive post connection (singular). This works well when the user understands his/her role in proper atomizer selection. With an appropriate atomizer which has a protruding positive pin, danger is not increased, but voltage drop is minimized.

My first hybrid topcap mech was the 49. In that case the hybrid topcap was also used to minimize the overall length of the mech tube. I only have three tube mechs remaining in my collection and all three have hybrid topcaps - 2 SMPLs and a Centipede. They get almost zero use. I recently drank the Temperature Limiting Kool Aide so all of my Atomizers are built with Titanium wire which dictates regulated vaping.

I read about several mech explosions, but only one was a hybrid style. 4nine.

I use authentic smpl's almost exclusively. Have 7 of them. (except for a reg device & tank used while driving) They are not dangerous to me, not in the least. But I know what I'm doing and only use high quality authentic batteries.

I'll buy them from you if they are authentic and in near mint condition

In my experience, hybrid mechs just involve less fiddling to get a secure battery in there. Non-hybrid top caps always have pins or screws that you have to endlessly adjust to get rid of the battery rattle. Hybrids usually have something on the bottom that handles it, making it less annoying (for me) when changing batteries/atomizers. You just gotta make sure your atty has a good pin for the job

Hybrids do two things. Eliminate a possible source of voltage drop and provide for a shorter overall length. As with all mechs it's incumbent on the user to be informed and provide for their own safety. Avoiding shorts is just about top of the list. Other than those mods designed to be exclusively hybrid there are some that have a top cap but for which hybrid connectors are available. Nemesis comes to mind as one of those. You then have the option of using the top cap with those atty's that aren't safe to use in hybrid mode.
