New today at HIC's Mixes : Whoopie Pie and Devil's Food Cake
p Whoopie Pie 200.jpg
"Whoopie Pies are Devil's-Food-like cookies sandwiched together with a gob of sweet marshmallow creme - the inspiration of many packaged snacks. With a couple minor adjustments, this is traditional Devil's Food: rich, dark chocolate cake with fluffy marshmallow frosting. Both recipes are included. These recipes use only FlavourArt flavorings; Devil's Food Cake requires FA Cappuccino."

Damn it HIC, I'm not even close to being tired of 3MM yet and you throw this at me? Rubbing cocoa in the wounds, are we? Fine, purchased.

And a couple more while I'm at it. Aaaand whaddaya know, someone's missing a couple of FA flavorings. SIGH.

I just emailed BCV asking if they maintain a storefront for walk-in customers because of you, considering that it's a 10 minute drive from where I work here in RTP. Otherwise I'm going to have to wait a whole day for the mailman to bring my stuff. A WHOLE DAY.

I think that's the one restraint a lot of people have. :D

I do have an oatmeal-raisin cookie but never posted or listed it. It's not a short one, uses small percents, and it takes a good flavor collection. It takes several FA flavors to get the impression of raisins and baked oats (the baked oats bit is also in my Apple Crisp Granola recipe). It tastes like old-fashioned cookies though, like 1940s when everyone used dark brown sugar. Should I write up my notes and list it, or are you looking for Keebler-type, light cookies?

I'm flipping out over Oatmeal Cream Pies. My mind is officially blown. I think I prefer it to actual food.

I splurged on 15ml of the concentrate from MamaJ's so I'm set for a long time--as long as I can keep myself from over-doing it and, you know--the gluttony effect. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a flavor this much. I hope it's not rude to speculate, but I feel like I perceive FA Cola in this before it's had a chance to settle/steep. (Don't answer that--just putting it out there!).

The mystery of oaty flavor is now definitely on my mind. Did you ever post any oat-effect recipe, and if so, is it here or on your own site? I'm assuming the oat flavor in Cream Pies is not the old-fashioned one, but can you confirm that for me please?

I don't know what you mean by "the old-fashioned one," but it has no oat flavoring. When everything else in a recipe is just right, especially a complex blend of flavors, your taste buds can fill in the gap to trick you into tasting the missing bit. That's not just a vape thing: http://www.businessinsider.com/pumpkin-spice-latte-doesnt-have-pumpkin-2014-10 Cool!

I was referring to the post of yours I quoted, in which you mention a different kind of oatmeal cookie:

I was thinking the Oatmeal Cream Pies tastes like it's probably not "old-fashioned" in the sense you describe, and also wondering where to find your recipe for Apple Crisp Granola and/or the other oatmeal cookie, if you ever posted/listed it.

That pumpkin spice trick is great, yeah--and works with apple pie, too!

I have this thing where whenever I taste cocktail sauce, I think I taste raw oysters or shrimp. It's amazingly convincing. The power of that associative thing we're talking about is imo the major reason it's so hard to quit smoking. Nic figures, of course, but it's just not the addictive demon it is sometimes made out to be.

Ohhhhh, I get your question now. To me "old-fashioned" has all those honey-raisin-nut ingredients that a Little Debbie's doesn't, so those are very different. I never posted that old-fashioned oatmeal cookie recipe - it's too darned complex for what it delivers. (read: flavor is just not quite right to me). My Apple Crisp Granola borrowed heavily from it for the granola bit (that link will take you to the Gumroad screen; it's not due back til next week).

You mentioned the missing-flavor trick with apple pie - you mean that recipe on the Ritz cracker boxes? That is such a fun trick!

Oh, no--I wasn't actually thinking of real mock apple pie! ha, I haven't thought of that in years. I meant just generally that if you put all the apple pie spices in place, you think (or I think, anyway) you taste an apple pie. Spice associations seem to be the strongest ones for me.
Thanks for the Apple Crisp Granola link--I will watch for it.

I combined all of HIC's recipes from both email accounts into a single folder for easier access if I need to reprint any of them. I've barely mixed half of them.... I need to get busy!! Lol!

I sort of have the same thing going on. I have a folder in My Documents and then have it backed with all of my other stuff. I don't want to lose them....lol

If you ever misplace your file, you can always use the link from the original email receipt. Or you can access your Gumroad library if you set one up. And if you didn't, I can always re-send your receipt. You just can't escape lol.

Hello @HeadInClouds (and everyone, else). HIC, I haven't forgotten you... I've moved, so far into the boonies that I can't keep my internet connection (or even the phone connection) going and Gumroad must hate me anyway. I've tried several times to purchase, but only the first 5 or 6 pics load (using my phone or tablet), then it freezes or bumps me off. I am still dying to give all those luscious ginger beer recipes a go - as well as several others. Until I am successful, I'm enjoying your wonderful Apple Cider and Italian Cream Soda recipes. I WILL OVERCOME. LOL.

BTW, I have Jungle Flavors Sweet Woodruff and it is very good. Their Honey Peach is awesome. In fact, I have half dozen or so of their flavors and didn't end up with one that I couldn't use. But, you are so correct about disclosure...

I just wanted to pop in and tell ya'll "hey". My old eyes and fingers are tired of these tiny keys on the 'not-smart' phone. So I bid you good night and send many tasty blessings your way.

Aw, technology versus wilderness - I'm glad you were able to stop in! I will soon have a faster option for situations like yours, so check back later this month as your connection allows. Congrats on your new place - enjoy the elbow-room!

(p.s.- if you PM me a list, I can send you direct links to recipes, bypassing that page that's giving you trouble)

Nice job, HIC!

The greatest value for me in these recipes are your notes on how the FA flavors interact with one another. You have practically eliminated the learning curve for people like myself who have little to no experience with FA's line. One of the biggest reasons why I stuck with CA, FW, and VZ for so long is that I'm comfortable with the results I get with them because of all the R&D I invested into finding out how those flavors act and react alone and when mixed together.

So above all else, my kitchen sink and I would like to thank you for sharing that experience! My HS Essence flavorings aren't going away anytime soon, but I'm beginning to feel that the vast majority of my DIY stash won't survive the next culling.

Lemon pudding cake is getting mixed TONIGHT.
