How do I tell which battery I actually have after removing the battery wrap

Need more info.

If you unwrapped it, what branding was on there originally? Top cap pattern can be used as an indicator of brand too. Photos of the positive and negative terminals are very useful.

It's an HE2 . I'm pretty sure you have a 2500mAh efest, then both the old version and the new version with the darker wrapper are both HE2s.

The topcap in the photo is the same as the design LG use. However most Chinese cells also use the same 4 contact point design. The combination of markings kn that cell and topcap pretty much give it away though.

Sometimes it's easy to tell, eg with a 25R, the combination of three contact point top cap and the single character etched into the negative terminal give it away.

Just because it's efest, doesn't mean it's crap. Your charger may not show the full capacity. Capacity is measured from a full charge down to 2.5V under load. If you haven't discharged it that low, your charger won't give the actual mAh.

Like I say, your charger won't tell you the true capacity if you haven't drained the cell to its bare minimum voltage of 2.5V under load. I wouldn't take th e capacity measurement from any mainstream charger as accurate. A hobby charger capable of discharging to 2.5V then charging would be needed at minimum.

If it's the 2500mAh labeled as 20A continuous 35A pulse, it's a 20A LG HE2. They're good batteries. Wouldn't buy any more with the efest wrapper on though, you can get OEM HE2 for less money.

Welcome to the complicated and confusing world of 18650s. :)

If you're in the US, check out liionwholesale.com Jon has genuine OEM cells and the prices seem decent. I don't deal in dollars so I'm not too familiar with the going rate etc but people are very happy with what they get from him.

Can you expand on that?
My new green wrap 25Rs from Jon are 3 point with a bare neg.
I've never handled the original blue.
No more etched character?
The etched character on the negative is underneath the wrap. Where it folds around on to the bottom it should be under there. I've never unwrapped a green one though. I have two newer green ones but no spare wrap to be able to tear one off. To see the character you would damage the wrap beyond repair.

It's there on the green one too.

To answer the original question, that looks like what the unwrapped Efest 2500mAh 35A should look like. The markings are a little different than the HE2, Efest says it's their own cell now, my guess is it's a chinese copy of an HE2 because it looks pretty similar running on our test equipment. But it could also be a legit HE2 that they have manufactured special with different markings. Either way it's a pretty good 20A battery similar to the Samsung 25R and HE2.

It's always tricky with cells and Vaping. We hear things that may or may not be true. This may be one of those things that can't be verified but I have heard an explanation for the variation in markings.

An HE2 directly from LG will have similar markings to the efest in the pictures above, but it should also have a quality control

The reason I've been told that this is missing on the efest is because the HE2 they use never passed quality control, so didn't get the stamp.

But if Efest is just LG, why buy Efest at all? It might be good just to have a translation set for Efest - Model AAA = LG Model BBB, etc. Though from what I have seen LG and Samsung are cheaper than the Efests so again, why even bother buying anything else.
