Vaping causing Throat Pain, Esophagus pain

I am hoping someone might suggest what I am doing wrong here.

I am cig smoker of 13 years and my wife got me a kangertech vape to try to move me over to that.

Since the getgo, I have been experiencing throat pain while vaping (explained to me as the removal of tar from the back of throat), but also esophagus pain, similar to what I get when having heartburn but much worse and it doesn't go away.

I have been using 12mg Tobacco flavor (hate fruity and yadda yadda stuff) mix PG/VG, Right now at 11 W, 4.4 V.

Is there something I can do to stop this pain? Will it go away? There is nothing that makes me want to just give up more than physical pain obviously caused by this device.

Any suggestions I would appreciate

You sound like you have a history of heartburn maybe, and maybe the VG or PG or nic strength may be aggravating it, try stepping down a bit on the nic mg and try different ratios in the PG and VG to see if one of those is causing the discomfort. Also what are you vaping with, what kind of gear do you have?

I might not be much help but in my experience a high volume PG mix always makes my lungs feel icky.My friend describes it as like having a towel in his throat.Like stated above maybe try mixing up the PG/VG ratio, and i have also noticed that when i get juice from my locally made vapor store its always a bit more harsh on the throat than when i get name brand. Some of the smoothest juices I've had was rating at 99% VG on the bottle but who knows.

It might be smoking sestation when I quit smoking I felt sick for about a week and a half don't use high vg in tanks might burn coils try changing juice to different flavor and maybe try some 70/30 & 30/70 see if one produces symptoms at a lower or non existent rate

I read somewhere that is a a small portion of people are allergic to PG, Try using Max VG vs Max PG. That might help but also try out different Drip Tips, I noticed the bore size of my Atlantis 2 was too large and was giving me harshness in my throat. I changed the drip tip to a smaller bore size and the problem stopped.

High vg works fine in tanks.
Just takes learning the finesse of forcing more air into the tank to increase the tank pressure so it wicks better.

If you have any local vape shops, you could pay them a visit and sample different VG/PG ratios. See if one works out better for you. Both PG and Nicotine can give throat hit. But at 11 watts on a 1.7 ohm coil, I don't think the nicotine would give much throat irritation at 12mg. Heartburn and throat irritation could also just be the result of switching from cigs to vaping. Sometimes it takes time for your body to adjust to the new sensation.

Give it time. Smoking burned all your cells in your respiratory tract and are now regenerating. Even if you weren't vaping, you would still have a sore throat for a bit.

I get heartburn from PG and have switched to 100% VG. I then add just 10% distilled water to that to thin it out enough where it's easy to vape from my tank.

If the heartburn and throat burn keep up, you need to have yourself checked for Barrett's Esophagus by a Gastroenterologist . Barrett's is nothing to play around with, and can become cancerous. Do you ever fell like you food isn't going all the way down when you eat?

Was wondering the same thing. Wouldn't think vape going into the lungs would have anything to do with the esophagus or could cause any kind of acid reflux. Dry throat maybe, but I'm no physician, weirder things have happened

Barrett's changes the lining of the esophagus to the same consistency of the stomach, your brain thinks food is in the stomach, but it's still in the esophagus . It's caused from long term acid reflux, and /or a hiatal hernia. My G/F has it, and has had 2 ablations done so far to try to repair the damage, and will probably need at least one more done. Barretts can only be diagnosed by and endoscopic exam of the esophagus, and a biopsy of the damaged tissue if found. The OP made it sound like he has acid reflux even if not vaping is why I suggested they get checked.

Yup, sounds like good advise. When in doubt, check with a Doctor. I used to work in radiology (tech) at a large hospital. Saw hiatal hernia problems everyday in the flouro exam rooms.

In addition to everything else the people above have mentioned, 4.4v jumps out at me. That is a pretty hot vape. Try dropping down to the 9.something watts to keep it around 3.7v. At least for me, I find this much more enjoyable and far less throat irritation.

Have numerous friends that had to switch to 100% or very high vg because of heartburn, stomach issues. Google "propylene glycol heartburn." Going high VG concentration would be a starting move before thinking you have cancer or precancerous conditions. It could be very, very simple. And you'll find out by trying

I googled it and couldn't find anything relating to heart burn and acid reflux stomach problems while inhaling PG. Got any links to check out from Physicians? Certainly don't rule out seeing a Physician.

Here's one https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlik...vapor_smokeecig_smoke_contain_or_do_anything/ I don't think he needs to rule out seeing a physician, just saying maybe he should start with going high vg percentage

Don't think anyone on that reddit thread is a Physician, seems they were talking more about nicotine anyway, which certainly seems logical to keep the dose as low as possible. Here's a peer article talking about the effects of high dosage nicotine potentially has on the esophageal sphincter, although another medical article says they see no evidence of that.

"With respect to the clinical relevance of these findings, it is noteworthy that several studies have been carried out in which non-smoking ulcerative colitis patients were given nicotine, some for up to 6 months.[61] Side effects were recorded during these studies -- primarily headaches, nausea, and agitation, as well any others that were new following the introduction of nicotine -- but no patients spontaneously complained of symptoms suggestive of peptic ulcer or GERD. Further work is needed in this area to establish whether the effects of nicotine that have been outlined are clinically relevant."

If I were the OP, I'd certainly go consult a Doctor, not Vaping Underground or Reddit.

I'm not saying they should consult reddit or any vape forum. Just saying that was one of the links that popped up when I googled "propylene glycol heartburn," since someone else (could have been you) said they couldn't find anything when googling it. And of course someone should see a doc if they discontinue something and still have a problem (or even before they discontinue.) I was just suggesting trying taking it out of the equation first. :) I only mentioned trying to take it out of the equation because I have a few friends who have those kinds of issues with the pb. Here's another when googling those words together: http://thedailyvape.com/news/2011/02/pg-vs-vg-–-which-one-should-you-choose/ Oh, and I totally agree on nicotine being very bad for stomach/heartburn issues. That's all over the web, and there are a ton more links when looking for nicotine causing those problems.

I am wondering if anyone would know what I'm doing wrong. I first switched from regular cigs about 10 months ago. I had zero coughing for 4 months. I use mostly social lites e cigs and have an ego t. I have moved down to 8mg vaping and in September last year 4 months after quitting smoking I have developed huge coughing and phlegm issues. I have been to my doctor's and been put on acid reflux medicine, Puffer, Cortersteriods, Now on amitriptyline and even nasonex. I have had a chest x-ray and spirometry with normal results. I have now just for the last week stopped vaping just having nicotine lozenges and no improvement on the phlegm or constant feel of lump in my throat. I have been put on antibiotics for sinitis but zero help I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I don't know what to do as I don't get to see an ENT Specialist for two months just completely over it
