How long flavors, VG/PG and nic last

I tried DIYing for about a month a year ago and it didn't work out great, so all my DIY supplies have been sat in a cupboard, but I am getting a itch to have another go at mixing, and wonder if at least some of the stuff I have will still be ok to use?

I have nic which going to guess, probably isn't good after a year just sitting in the cupboard.

Got Essential Depot's PG and VG and then probably over 100 flavors.

So should I throw it all, or is some of it still be ok to use?

Also who sells small amounts of nic, vg and pg, I jumped in last time and spent a lot of money, I don't want to do that a 2nd time.

Heard so many good things about Mama J's, intend to try some of there flavors to see if can have more success than last time.

Unfortunately I dont expect to be much help to you.......

But here it is :
Flavor concentrates may, or may not still be usable.
But the Rub is only you will be able to tell by trying it, and with no point of reference its gonna be tough !
Strawberry should still taste like strawberry..... But if the taste of vendor-X strawberry sucked to begin with, how will you know ?
Try em......
If they suck toss em. and if its a flavor you MUST have...... try another vendor.

The Nic ?
Try it Clean with no Flavors added.
If you are diluting Nic concentrate with VG/PG to make your base.... do it as you would in one of your recipes, but add No Flavor.
Without a Nic Test.... it will be hard to tell if the Nic level has faded, but it will fade, NOT get Stronger.... thus not harmful just weaker, Maybe.
Harshness, or Throat Hit, may be intolerable... maybe not..... only you can judge !

Good Luck....
:)

Agree with the above! You should be able to tell with the PG/VG by tasting. Flavors vary widely. I just had to dump a whole bunch I'd bought over a year ago, whereas others were totally fine. Strawberry was a big offender - it faded to nothingness!

The nic should be fine if it was stored properly (dark, cool place). If it's changed color and gone dark it might have oxidized and taste nasty, depending on what you like.

Everything has been stored in a cupboard, so dark cool place is a check :)

As I wasn't impressed with any of the mixes I done, be hard to know if the stuff is good as said, so either I need to buy new or just not bother, don't think anywhere does small amounts of nic,vg and pg for a decent price, really don't want to buy a large amount as wasn't successful last time, the flavors not to concerned about, as was thinking of trying some FA flavors, as that was the one flavor company I did not try last time.

PG, VG, NIC = 5 years in the freezer
Flavors = At least 2 years in the fridge

Nailz, just taste them and see. I promise you your DIY will be a success if you make some of HIC's recipes:p My efforts were absolutely disgusting before I ran into those!

I'm sure with that many flavors there is something(s) good to make. Since everything has been stored in a cool, dark, dry place, it's probably good to go. My PG and VG are both 2 years old and taste the same as he day I bought them. I bought a gallon of each from Essential Depot and broke them down into 32oz glass mason jars. Just opened up new ones the other day, crystal clear. As long as your Nic hasn't turned really dark, you should be fine (a little over a year isn't terribly long). Doesn't cost anything to try, especially since you already have the supplies. Not sure what flavors you have, but I'd be more than willing to try and help you out if I can!

Cheers,
Steve

Just checked my nic, it is not clear, just a slight cream color.

Most of my flavors are TFA and think that is where I was going wrong, as seems most of the bigger mixers like HIC, seem to favor FA.

Cream color? That's odd! Give it a taste test (mixed with PG at least!).

I also started off with a lot of TFA. I still use some, but as a whole I find FA much better.

ok
mamjs jas 5ml size sample bottles for like $1.50
but no pg,vg or nic

ecigexpress is good to start with to get a little of everything cheap, they have everything you need

id pick a recipe or 2 of HICs and order those flavors and try it

I started off with TFA as well. Heck I still use 15 or so of their flavors. I also recently bought quite a few FA. Have a few Capella too.

For TFA I have a few imo very good recipes: Dragons Blood Clone, Deadly Sin clone and can't forget about my adv for a few years, 5-8% RY4 Double (RY4D) with 1 drop of AP per 5ml. Throw in 2% Caramel Original (or anyone you have) and 2% Bavarian Cream or Vanilla Swirl and your off to the races. Like I said, I'm sure between all of us, we can come up with something tasty.

As far as discolored nic goes... I buy Vaperstek nic with throat hit. Though I do like throat hit, this is crystal clear and pretty mild. Boyfriend, on the other hand, REALLY likes throat hit. I've been using up all my Wizard Labs nic for his stuff. I finally got to the end of the bottle of it, when I poured it, it was DARK BROWN. Like coffee brown. The nic level was fine, I have a test kit, though I don't always use it and as far as he was concerned it tasted fine. I'd had that bottle out for quite some time, in a dark cool cabinet. He was perfectly fine with it while it lasted.

The nic I got was from Wizard Labs too, so that is good to hear, but think I might buy fresh, I see ecigexpress sells nic in 30 mil bottles for $5, and 120mil bottles of VG and PG for the same price too.

Not a thing wrong with fresh nic. Always better safe than sorry. Cream colored sounds odd, lol.

You mean "cream" as in can't see through it, or a barely golden, like cream soda? If it's "cream" colored but still clearly seen through, it's okay.

Yes like cream soda and can see through it easy, remember it being quite strong pepper smell to it, which now is only very slight, so it might actually be better lol

So if I mix nic, vg and pg with no flavors, what should it taste like to know if it is still good or not?

I got some like that from a friend, only it looked like a urine sample....lol! It's good, but has quite a "bite"! Just shake it pretty well before you use it.

If the PG or VG has gone off I'm told it has a very funky taste. Unflavored juice has, to me, a slight tobacco'ish/ashy taste. Some people say it's just slighly sweet.

Don't give up! There's bound to be something tasty in there :)

I did about a year ago, got frustrated spending hours mixing just medoc juice, just wasn't worth all the time and effort, but now with how much juice I go through using these subtanks, I am getting the itch to try again.

Nailz sir, all should be OK. I did a mix last week with some older nic and flavors from TFA and it went well. I like you was not very good when I originally tried. My main problem was using too much flavoring. I've found that less is more. Give it a shot my friend. Morandir835 said to say hello. Enjoy the day!

Good to see you Rocco sir, tell Morandir hello back :)

I did mix just nic, PG and VG last night and didn't taste bad, as said there was a bit of a sweetness to it, but that was it, but I have come down with a cold/flu, so my taste is not the best, so think I will wait a few days and if still tastes fine, then will try a simple mix with what I already have.

Thanks all for your help and input :)

nailz good luck to your diy endeavor. hope you feel better soon.
a simple piece of advice.
when you do try
start with single flavors. start with low percentages and add some more if its not enough taste to find which individual flavors you like and what percentage you like each at. also take notes on those perentages so you can use them for reference when you start mixing flavors together. unless you are following someone else';s recipe that you are almost positive you will like to some degree, starting out with several flavors at once can cause issues. like not knowing did you add too much of flavor a or not enough of flavor b or maybe flavor c just tastes like crap and i shouldnt use it at all.

I did jump in last time and just followed recipes I found online, maybe that was my problem, trying to run before I could walk, this time I am going to just try single flavors, and if that works out, then going to look at some of HIC's recipes, as they seem very popular, but will need to order FA flavors 1st.

while most of HIC's stuff is FA

you dont need FA to try his recipes all the time.
option 1 some of his flavors are available from mamaj's in premixes so just add your pg/vg/nic to it
option 2 if you have the same flavors form other ocpanies or similar you can use a hic recipe with FA flavors to give you an idea of what you can use your flavors to do. Not all things can just be switched out. so a tfa peach and a fa peach taste totally different imho. and the percentages between the 2 companies are totally different. But the recipe can spark ideas and give you an idea of how much of one flavor versus another flavor to put in your mix.

I have found that when the nic gets discolored it has that Chinese taste.. I always keep my nic in the fridge with no problems. Old nic no mater what brand after it gets dark to me has that peppery smell and flavor.

Kinda surprised you didn't like the CAP Peaches & Cream, even works well as a stand alone at 5-6% for me.
And you even got a huge bottle of the stuff:D.
Also works well with some CAP Creamy Yogurt.

You've come to the right place, lots of help & and lots of recipes...

That is strawberries and cream, and it wasn't bad on it's own, just nothing wow though, I do like Peaches and cream flavors, so might have to check that one out :)

Lol, couldn't read the first part, just guessed on that one cause I like it so much.
Don't care for any of the Strawberries tho.
Although many here are mixing 2 or 3 Strawberry brands together to get it "just right".

I'm finishing a gallon of vg that I bought 2.4 years ago. I have a new gallon but I cannot let it go to waste. Still taste great! It's Essential depot and was stored in a dry cool cold storage area. I have flavorings that are 3 years old and still good. I do go thru the lot and discard if needed. The ones that seem to weaken are the natural/or alcohol type. Such as Natures flavors or the Chinese SC line from Ecigexpress or Vapingzone. Some Capella flavorings are suspended in alcohol/have alcohol added.

To reply to your question: . The nic is questionable since I store in the freezer. I do keep out a small amount to mix with that I don't bother placing back in the freezer.
I have never had pg or vg go bad or change color. NOw if it has nic mixed in that is a different story This is wh
why I keep the nic in the fridge
