Question about Throat Hits and Different Juices

So, since my husband and I gave up smoking analogs for vaping, we've been pretty much solely using VaporFi for juices, and I'm sad to say that I've wasted at least $30 throwing out juices that were well-reviewed, but didn't do it for me because the throat hit was far too harsh. For example, the watermelon flavor was too harsh, and it seemed like 9 times out of 10, I'd get that dry hit burnt taste. The same thing happened today with their pear flavor. We've been ordering the 50%PG/50%VG blends. I couldn't stomach the watermelon mojito, so I had my husband buy me some juice from a local store last week. He got me the Brewell Vapory's Strawberry Mylk, and I LOVED it. It was so smooth. I don't really care about the throat hit feeling like I'm actually smoking (I was smoking Ultra Lights before switching to vaping), and I noticed the VG content in the Strawberry Mylk was much higher than the PG content. Is there something I'm doing wrong that's causing that dry hit taste in just about every VaporFi liquid I buy? I make sure the cotton in the coil is well soaked before taking a pull, and the wattage on my Kanger Subox Mini is at 16 right now. Any higher than that with the VaporFi liquids, and it feels like I'm inhaling smoke from a house fire. Any help? Are there any other places that offer liquids at reasonable prices that would be closer to the PG/VG content of the Strawberry Mylk? Is that something that only the premium brands do?

I've tried and failed a lot of juices. I haven't tried vaporfi but when I first started vaping I used some durasmoke juice. Since trying stuff like cuttwood and the juice society I can't do the cheaper juices anymore ( I know I sound like a total juice snob, I'm sorry ) but once you get the good stuff it's hard to go back. What nic level are you using?

Flavoring, nic level, and PG content all contribute to throat hit. Higher VG% juices have less of a throat hit. That dry burnt taste is because the atomizer isn't getting enough juice to vaporize quickly enough, or the power on your device is up a bit high, but at 16 watts on a Subbox, that may not be the issue. Since you have issues with VaporFi, I suggest you locate a local store and go in and try some of the juices before you buy. Get a 60VG/40PG or 70VG/30PG mix to help with the throat hit. There are some vendors here that sell samplers, 10 flavors or so in 5ml bottles. That may be the other option for you.

Whatever the equivalent to a Light cigarette is. It seems to be different for just about every brand! It's weird because with some of the juices, I never have a problem. Like their appletini and banana split flavors are always good for me. And I always get the same PG/VG ratio (50/50). But I think you're right, once you try the good stuff, it's difficult to do the cheaper stuff. I wasn't sure if it was quality of ingredients or what.

Im guessing your using a Subtank Mini? What is the ohm of the coil? Im thinking it's a high nic content (12+) and a 50-50 mix is giving that throat hit. I use a 60/40 blend in my Nautilus mini with 18 mg nic so I get that nice throat hit with the great flavor/vapor. (1.8 ohm coil).

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll try that. Hawaii seems to have really embraced vaping, so there are tons of local shops!

I am, and the ohm of the coil is 0.5. I think I'll move down a level of nicotine next time we order because my end goal is to be done with this nicotine addiction.

Mine was a little wonky at the 11-17 range. I've currently worked my way up to 25 watts, which seems to have eliminated the weirdness, but is definitely warmer.

Try higher VG juices and step up to 20 watts just to try it out.

As stated a higher VG mix will help. Also some flavor just hit harder. I can't vape vanilla tobacco as fiercely as I can honeydew melon.

With the sub-Ohm tanks, the first thing is to lower the nicotine level (I went from 12 to 6 mg/ml). These tanks with 0.5 Ohm coils produce a lot more vapor, thus giving you more of the nicotine. As @Zamazam mentioned, throat hit is from Nicotine and PG. When you still have too much throat hit, reduce the PG level of your juice.

However, with cheap juice, you are running the risk of lesser quality products being used to mix the juice. For example, a bad Nicotine base, can have a "black pepper" taste to it, besides being rough on your throat. Not to mention, what the quality of the VG and PG might be. That was another reason for me to get into DIY (to have trust is good, to have control is better!).
