I don't heat steep any of my juices since I wrecked a few juices a long time ago. I caramelized the sugars and they turned real dark fast along with a off taste and that was with a coffee maker thats set at 160 degrees so there isn't much of a window between heat steeping and burning your juice. I made myself a DIY magnetic mixer and it works great, the only heat I use is warming up my base a bit with hot water a bit to loosen the VG. I love the magnetic mixer, set a timer for a couple hours then walk away. I don't add the nic until after the first initial mixing of a couple hours then let it sit however long I think it needs then add the nic then remix slowly with as little air as possible. I only make 100mls at a time of any juice and found the 20mm stirbar works best, I also have a 10mm stirbar that I can mix in a 5-15ml jug, a 15mm stirbar I can mix in a 30-50ml jug. The 10, 15 and 20mm stirbars work just great for my mixing needs.
I should add if your planning on making a computer fan magnetic mixer then remove the fan blades. My mixer does spin faster without all the blades, you just score both sides of the blade and they will snap off then a bit of cosmetic scraping the leftover blade so its smooth.

I put mine inside a bag, then put that bag inside a bag filled with socks and run it through my clothes dryer. Sounds weird but it works pretty well! Continuous mixing and at about 140F!

Just ran into this post looking for steeping methods cause as of now, i put my juice on a stand inside of a shoebox thats standing upright with holes punctured through the back, then i put it in front of my heater and chilllll as it stews together! Just another method if you dont have a crockpot or cleaner

It shouldn't be like figuring out how to nail jello to a tree. But. . Here's my two coppers. I use it for shaking nail polish. Purchased through eBay around 35.00. simple. N done!
@HeadInClouds it also frees up the fan blades for winding kite string and extension cords. ;-)View attachment 30671

Thorough mixing of the ingredients is imperative. But, it is the (slow) migration of molecules between/among the ingredients that change the brew. "Wine and women both get better with age..."

Still a dedicated vapor!!! No analogs in almost 2 years!!!

In the beginning I spent a bunch of bucks (part of my money NOT spent on tobacco) buying flavors and mixing. I would start each mixing/tasting session with a clean pallet of 50/50-1.2%. Then add the various flavorings, shake and test...you know the routine. Well, it finally dawned on me that of all the mixing I had done, I actually liked the flavorless (base) more than anything else... After that, I just drifted away from the forums and now idle my time in other worlds...

I kept all my "stuff" for over a year and just last week found a young couple starting an ejuice mixing business and gave them all my (400+) flavorings. glassware, CP, digital scales, UC, food dehydrator, etc. It was at least &1000. worth of good usable "tools/toys" that will help them go further in their business. I needed the room for my other hobbys to expand into.

Tonight, I just got an email about the "frother" and just had to put my 2 cents in.

Good to hear from you - I miss the old gang...

I was VERY recently talking about your experiment with VG when you made those molds for your bottles. Crazy, huh?

Very generous of you to PIF all your stuff, but no need to be a stranger. You still vape and you're family! Good to see ya @rowdyplace :)

I know this is probably a stupid question. When using the crock pot do you remove the lids of the actual juice (I use plastic bottles)? So if I remove the lids won't the steam get in the juice? And if you don't remove the lids they eventually build up pressure and want to blow up.

No, keep the lids on. And use glass, not plastic which can leach/warp!

I use Mason jars to steep cause I make large batches then transfer over.

A couple of things. I wouldn't use plastic if I was using the crock pot method, I'd only use glass. You don't want it over 140F. However, I've never used that method. TBH the most I do is put my juice in glass bottles into a 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup and put hot tap water in it (for a couple of hours) and change it when it starts getting cooler (that's when I'm feeling energetic).

PS I only fill the container to the neck of the bottles. Also if using the crock pot method without caps I believe condensation when get in your juice and dilute it.

Cheers,
Steve

PS I've been DIY my own juice for 3 years or so and in most cases I think steeping is over rated. It won't turn crap juice into good juice. At most it will make good juice a tad better. Just my 2 cents.

Do you all put the bottle directly onto the ceramic or do you use some sort of shelf device that raises them up a bit?
