Social stigma

Hi everyone!

I have recently stopped smoking thanks to vaping and I feel great. No more cough, more oxygen in my body. I reaped immense benefits by quitting, in my health, finance, self respect to say the least. I thought I would be praised by all the folks who wished I quit smoking.. Think again..

My buddy (a light smoker) objected to the fact that switching to vaping wasn't really an improvement to be proud of since there was still comsuption of nicotine involved. I argued that it was only if you wanted/needed to since you are in control of the nic level of your juice. At least, you have so far eliminated hundreds of harmful chemical by quitting the analog. Coffeine is also a stimulant just like nicotin, but it doesn't carry the same stigma. Besides, chewing nicorettes is quite the same thing, but that's socially ok.

I think that I could never have stopped smoking without vaping instead. I also think that smokers wish this was not blowing out the water any excuses they still had not to smoke, and ex smokers who quit cold turkey resent the fact that it is so easy and wish vaping was available back in the days they struggled to stop and successfully did.

Every doctor told me I should quit. When I did, it gave my doc whom I deeply respect a pause as if I complicated things. Where could my ailments come from now?

On the street , I notice folks staring at me and my nautilus. Probably asking themselves what in the world is this?

In short, I think that we have been so brainwashed by the war on smokers that anything that remotely ressemble smoking is socially unacceptable. It will take a long time and patience to change the perception. The facts alone won't help.

So far, it seems that inhaling PG or VG is harmless. I hope it stays that way and it seems to be much safer than smoking anyway.

I hope you will share your social experiences and thank you for it

Smokers and non smokers alike, associate our clouds with smoke clouds.

They are as different as fire and water. Smoking contains THOUSANDS of bad chemicals.

Yes, you are still using nicotine, but nicotine itself isn't necessarily a BAD thing. Like you pointed out, it is similar to caffeine.

Piss on everyone else. If you want to vape to avoid smokes, do it. No doubts, it is a healthier alternative to cancer sticks.

It does vary. Most smokers I know eventually become curious. My oldest brother that used to bitch at me ALL the time about smoking was the one I thought would give me shit about vaping. He saw me vaping outside at a family function and said, "Sis, you can bring that in here!". Shocked the shit out of me! Of course, I still get odd looks here and there from the general public, but I see more and more vapers around here all the time now. Makes me happy.

One mind at a time.

It does vary. .....

My daughter, a smoker who never smokes in her house. Cleared me for vaping in her house. Her reason, it makes her house smell like fruits and berries. :D

Her husband got one look at my setup, and immediately started asking questions when he saw the cloud. They've both tried quiting, but have never been satisfied with the cigalikes. I expect I'll be helping at least one of them choose a rig within the next week or so.

We win some, we lose some.

Good for you, Good for them! Don't overwhelm them. May I suggest a Little Kanger Pro tank & a 30w box mod. Very inexpensive & work great. ;)

You're right, it will take a long time to change the perception of vaping. But we are the ones that are going to do it.
One person at a time.
..and one delicious HIC recipe at a time

People are afraid of what they have never seen, or don't understand. Show them. Battery powered device that has helped me quit Cigarettes. Makes a small fog. It's not even smoke. Most will go Wow! Pretty much it.
That is so true. Some folks are intrigued about it. I have questions sometimes and I share the knowledge I learn here. For beginners, I recommend the Ego. That's how I started
