First let me start by mentioning that this RDATA costs $110. Many will not need to read any further!

This will be written as an addendum to the excellent and accurate Rip Trippers video. I would start by watching that first:

If you've already watched the video then read on. The reason I bought the tank is the same reason Rip loves it: I am a flavor chaser and this gives a vapor density from a single coil at low wattage that I have not experienced before. I replicated Rip's build and mode of use except that I have currently settled on 0.68 ohms as I get a nice warm dense vape off a mech with this and I found 0.5 a little too hot for me. This works out to 21W @ 4.7V. YMMV, I am not a very aggressive vaper. EDIT: After a month of trying several builds including a dual vertical, I have come to prefer a single parallel coil of 3mm ID 26 gauge 7 wrap coming out at 0.4 ohms.

I did not have the same issues with the machining that he had with his. I got a new run (serial #644) and the deck is clean with no major burrs. As he said in the video, the tolerances are very tight and there is no leaking.

All the screws were extremely tight. I had to use a big screwdriver (with interchangeable heads) to get enough leverage to loosen them initially. A pain. Which leads me to:

Machine oil. Horrible. Initially, I left the positive pin in place and disassembled everything else. The tank sleeve was also very tight and a chore to slip off. I did my standard toothbrush with dawn and warm water followed with a boil in water. I was rewarded with a nice dense vape of machine oil with a hint of the blueberry rye 4 I had loaded. So it was time to get medieval on this mofo. I finally got the positive contact screw loose. Even after you break the initial tension it's still pretty tight, it took me several minutes to unscrew it completely. I believe the majority of the residue resided in the peek insulation sleeve. I was able to pop out the positive post block but left the sleeve in place because I was afraid of damaging it. So, decontamination went like this: 1) toothbrush w dawn and boil in water, 2) soak overnight in alcohol 3) simmer in warm vegetable oil, 4) toothbrush w dawn, 5) boil in water, 6) Reassemble.

Random notes: You cannot remove the plastic deck block without removing the post screws first, they lock it in place (clever). The airflow is not adjustable but, like Rip, I find it ideal. The small bore stainless drip tip it comes with is a lip roaster. I wish I could get the one in the video but VHO told me it's out of stock. Right now I'm using a larger bore all delrin DT and it works fine. The tight positive pin stays in place nicely wherever you set it.

So, the question is if I lost this Haze today, would I go out tomorrow and buy another one? And the answer is "No", and it's a hard no because although I love it, I never want to spend $110 on an RDA again!

Edit: I found another negative. The coil gets gunky pretty fast so I have to re-wick often so I can dry burn it. I think it's because the top cap is totally flat and lots of juice builds up on the inside without running down the sides. I have settled on a 0.6 ohm, 3mm ID, 24 gauge single coil for now. Build close to the posts because otherwise any spitback from the coil will come out the air slot onto your chin.

Edit: After a dozen builds I have stabilized on a dual horizontal coil build with 26 gauge 8 wraps 2.5 mm diameter 0.45 ohms. Not too hot. Easy to wick just like a single coil and the air slot lines up nicely. See last pic below. Great roadie vape on a compact mod.

Nice review! I just got mine today. I cannot for the life of me get the tank sleeve off of mine though. Did you have to take the positive pin out and disassemble the tank base to get it off the first time? I tried cleaning it without removing it and like you stated the machine oil taste is really bad. I haven't taken it completely apart yet but I may have to and try the steps you did. I got serial number 639 and the build quality was great for me also besides the machine oil.

Also did you boil the ultem tank sleeve and the "inner chamber partition"?

Thanks!

I slipped the tank off (upwards) as soon as I got it. It's very tight and I used 2 butter knives to push it up once I was able to get a slight gap to fit them in. It's kinda scary but Ultem is very hard material. It is designed to be used for medical instruments and sterilized in an autoclave, so boil away. I left the ultem parts out of the alcohol soak though, just in case. The only other disassembly I did was unscrew the positive pin and pop off the positive post. I did not remove the o-rings because they are really tight and I was afraid of damaging them.

Finally got the tank sleeve off! Tried to take the positive contact screw out with no luck. Stopped trying after it started stripping. I'm soaking in water, Dawn, and white vinegar as we speak. Going to scrub with Dawn and water then boil afterwards. Hope it's enough as I'm about to give up on this thing. Also mine came with the drip tip that Rip showed in his video, it does not fit like his did though. Can only get it like halfway on, and then it's almost impossible to get it back out. So be weary if you end up buying one.

You need a full size screwdriver with interchangeable heads to break the initial tension in the screw. Use a coarse rag or some silicone kitchen toy to get a solid grip on the RDA.

So I finally got this thing taken fully apart and cleaned. This thing is a flavor beast! Got a single clapton coil in there that ohms out at .7 and vaping some Rocketman from OneHitWonder at 35 watts. This little guy packs a flavorful punch. Still trying to get the wicking just right though. So glad I didn't give up on this atty lol. Once you get past all the machine oil this thing is amazing!

Any problem with spitting with the clapton? Do you have to keep cleaning it?

Nope, no spitting at all actually. I even have a dual clapton build in it now running at 50 watts with no spitting. I get a little juice build up in my drip tip but none of it really makes it to my mouth. I do have to change the cotton a lot, which I'm guessing is partly due to the atty and partly due to me vaping One Hit Wonder juice which gunks stuff up FAST.

I also found out my 510 connection is kinda bent on mine, which really bugs me since I'm pretty OCD about that kind of stuff. I wonder if they would send me a replacement? Overall though I'm really loving this thing. It's such a nice dense vape, especially with a dual vertical build. I've barely touched my Velocity since I've gotten the Haze.

Nice! My experience has been that verticals don't spit. So you initially had a single horizontal clapton and no spitting? I'm thinking of trying a single 0.6 clapton build.

Just got mine yesterday, and I didn't experience any of the machine oil problems you guys are reporting. A quick warm water bath was all it took. Mine also came with the drip tip noted in Rip's video. I've only had time to try two builds so far: a single horizontal 24ga nichrome at 0.5 ohms and a dual vertical 24ga nichrome at 0.25 ohms. This deck is setup really well for dual verts due to the offset posts, making it really easy to align the coils directly over the two wicking holes. Flavor is top notch on both builds, although I prefer the density of the vapor on the dual coil setup. I'll probably raise the resistance to 0.4 ohms or so on my next dual coil build to lower the heat a bit. With the limited airflow, dual coils at 0.25 ohms gets pretty hot on a mech, although it still vapes pretty darn good as low as 50 watts or so on a regulated mod with a bit less heat buildup. Still, I'd recommend a full delrin drip tip if you're planning to build that low on this deck with dual coils.

All in all, though, I'm very impressed with this device. Outstanding juice capacity, no leaking, reasonably flexible and configurable (although I wouldn't have minded some airflow options), near state-of-the-art flavor production, good build quality and tight tolerances.

This device will definitely see a lot of playing time in my rotation.

Running a dual coil 26g 0.4 ohm build in mine now. Works well without the spitting I was getting on my single 24g builds. Used on my Kbox Mini it makes a nice travel unit when I leave the house.

Yeah, haven't had any spitting whatsoever really. I do turn my drip tip to the side like RiP showed in his video though.
Went for a single 0.6 ohm clapton. I think this is my keeper build; I like it more than the dual coil.

Edit: I find that the Haze is best purposed as a single coil low wattage rda. I have been running it for several months now with a simple 24g 2.5mm 0.5 ohm build at 25 watts.
