Just like it is with two mods in the middle and make like a box slot for the batteries so they don't tip over. Maybe put the drip tip holes in the front for a little easier access.
You would rather have 2 batteries lay flat that 3 stand upright? Right now those 3 holes on the left are exact to 18650's.
Sweet Jebus that is cool!

Just shoots well BEYOND awesome!

Thanks man. I put a ton of time into the design and testing it. I can say I am really happy with the final result.

I might offer a suggestion...have a double version like that, a "deluxe" version, just duplicate the standing portion, stretch the base, duplicate it side by side, make it a "double" floater :D

Or I dub it the "smoke stack" :p

If I had a moment to print out another prototype it would explain what I was saying because I think we are all saying the same things. :)
Lets break it up into possible sections. We have atty x2, and drip tip x3 (we will call this A). We have a section with 3x 18650 batteries B). We have the middle mod section call this M). Then we have other options Atty x1 and 18650x2 (call this C)
I'm thinking something like this

C|M|M|A or C|M|M|C

What do you guys think?

@Dhim I think the VU fist would be a good candidate for a prototype. I've seen your other works, and it sounds like a perfect fit! :)

I'd also love to see you incorporate the word VAPE into your designs... maybe even a promotional Vape3D stand. Think of all the possible designs/combos you can make out of that... wow.

Do you have strict dimensions you need to stick to? How long does it take to print a prototype? I think I'm getting a bit carried away with the VAPE idea above, and my head's spinning with the possibilities :)

@bystander do you mean to have the stand actually spell out the word VAPE or just include the text VAPE somewhere? I'm confined by bed space only which means about 9x6x6 which is a pretty large surface area. Just remember that bigger (especially surface area) increases build time. For example the solo dock takes about 1 1/2 hours to print, the 8 atty stand with iPV dock takes about 3.5.

I'm pretty flexible with what I can do as long as it's not some ridiculous design or a clunker. I like simple and clean lines with minimal wasted space. Heck I could do a round slab with a ton of random holes cut into it for mods, attys, or whatever else but then it just looks like a printed thing. Like the "floater" its super simple but has a neat way of presenting the mod and its under 4 inches wide. :)

@Dhim I meant spell out the word VAPE, yes. Attys for the V, batts for the A, mod for the (hole in the) P, and drip tips for the E. Just an idea...

You did the dragon and the Batman, right? Think you can combine the elements of those two to come up with the VU fist? :)

I only printed those from a publically available site. I wish my 3D rendering skills could actually remesh a Batman like that, but in all honesty I certainly couldn't use those. The fist might be possible, as would VAPE, but it would be a pretty large stand. It's something to tinker with for sure :)

No like a square slot that the batteries could stand upright. I think just sitting in the little holes they would be constantly falling. Something like the slot for the MVP except on the side. Just enough height to keep them from falling.

So where the battery holes are here

vjmnzZUl.jpg

There would be a box slot something like this. Just obviously not as big or tall.

I gotta ask based on Dhim's comments on the Batman/dragon/VU option: Are modeling skills needed here?

BTW, what printer do you have. :)

Great designs so far!

Nice...my preliminary MVP ones came in

Was in discussion for a vaping underground version ;)

I have a spare...maybe I should offer it up as a PIF or whatever, it is the initial proto-type that has an odd "seam" on the front tab on the very bottom

What are the build dimensions of your machine, @Dhim?

Can you do a 12" dimension?

VU_Stand_sm.png

I can model this with really any variation of holes and pockets. It's 12" wide.

That looks awesome. My build platform is actually just under 9" which is actually considered large. There is only 1 printer under 10k that I know even comes close to 12 inches. Most are between 7-9 inches. How bad would it look scaled to about 8.5 inches? I really dig that look.

You guys are all awesome for posting these pictures of the stands. I really appreciate it and glad that it is helping you guys out a bit.

@Garemlin from the back picture you posted, the right side holds 3x 18650's.

@Warhawk-AVG I didn't forget about you. I unfortunately (well... fortunately I guess) got hit with back to back orders of 10! Needless to say, the printer has been working nonstop so I don't lag behind. This *may* become remedied this weekend as I think I am going to take literally everything I brought in from the stands so far (and a bit more) to get a second printer. I have to analyze everything first (I try to not be impulsive with things). :)

@Emilie those Batman and T-Rex prints were not my designs. They are available to public on the web. To get prints like that require a extremely high level of skill. Remember not only do you need to design those for the amazing detail, but to also to stay within the limitations of 3D printing.

The printer I use is designed as nearly a 1:1 replica of the Makerbot Replicator 2x. The printer I use at work is a Makerbot Replicator 5 (nothing I print for Vape3d comes from that one though). I sort of have a pretty bad distaste for Makerbot at the moment. The Rep 5 at work has had 5 complete extruder failure / replacements, the printer has gone in an additional 3 times for service, and finally they sent us a new unit which still has issues all since March. It has truly been down far longer than it has been working. Not to mention the hours on hold waiting for and talking to support there. For $3000 it truly feels like a unfinished test machine. Hence why when I decided to get a printer for my own personal use (before ever considering Vape3d) I went with a different manufacturer. It is not even really a replica per se. All the pieces are openly available. Different companies just make their own tweaks and sell it. With the new line of Makerbot items (Repliator 5, Mini, and Z18) they went with a fully closed source platform (not that anyone would want to copy that).

Well that was a long winded answer, so I'll leave that there. :)

@Emilie ty so much for tossing that design my way. This thing came out awesome minus my mistake of having a corner peel a bit. I need to tweak the hole sizes I set a little. Will print another when I get a chance. But you get the idea.

You did amazing work on this base. The logo looks even better in person.

EDIT: that first one is a really bad picture. I snapped it on a Tupperware lid that has a bow in it. I'll snap a better one later.

Ok so I did a little modding to my stand. Still a little rough on the exterior but function is improved. #1 I epoxied charging plug in place. #2 I drilled out a space under the red LED charging indicator and inserted a small piece of clear plastic into the exterior face so that the light is visible while the unit charges. #3 I glued some magnets to the bottom so that the stand stays put when placed on a metal desk where I keep it. Now just drop in the mod, see that its charging, and pull out when done.

If @VaporJoes gives the go ahead, I'd love one of these in white so I can paint it easily! :)

I can also see these being used with the right holes as DIY mixing stations.

Keep in mind that my depth at the back was arbitrary. You can stretch that back as far as you need to in order to fit as many or as few pockets as you'd like. :)

Alright you guys (and actually a bunch of others from around the internet) asked me to sell the iPV v2 3D printed docks. I honestly had no intention of selling any of my printed work, but people seem to be interested and honestly I really like the designs. So here is the "deal", for now I only have a Facebook page and a shotty one at that at www.facebook.com/vape3d. I might have a site up by the end of the week to make this a bit less "IM me your email and I'll send you a Paypal invoice" but for now its a Paypal transfer.

I thought long and hard about pricing and have come up with this. For the solo dock it is $10 shipped and for the atty + dock it will be $14 shipped, at least on Facebook. For you guys, I'll make it $9 shipped for the solo and $12 for the combo dock. To give you an idea of what's involved, it will cost probably between $3-$5 to ship. Each print takes about 2-3.5 hours to complete. I have to set up the colored filament, process the job, clean it up, and all that other jazz. Trust me, working at McDonalds would be far more profitable. :)

Now with the longest intro post around, here are some pictures. Keep in mind these are still "prototypes". The finals will have VAPE3D above the cable exit, the base will be a little tighter to the iPV, and other minor changes. Names can be customized on the side, but that's 2 bucks for it since I have to redo all the text, export a new print job. If you're interested PM me.

You can get either of the designs (and a 3rd one coming with 2 atty holders on one side, 3 drip tip holders, and a tray area on another) in any of the following colors: Black, white, red, green, yellow, orange, blue, or clear. All orders are custom made by me and will be printed in the order I get them.

BT, what was your invoice number (so I can snag your shipping address)? I'm going to send you out a brand new one. I know EXACTLY when yours was printed and it was during me trying something. I thought it looked better than what it did in your pictures. I don't like how that looks 1 bit. That is what I get for trying to print 2 colors at the same time. LMK and I will have a clean one printed for you and shipped out tomorrow morning. In fact, let me know if you want some custom text on it free of charge this time around.

Wow! Never expected that but it is refreshing to see a dedicated new company that stands behind their products such as that. I really had no complaints but if you insist, I'm always down for some freebies. PM'd you DHim.
Thank you!

Oooh...get some acrylic rod!

A. All you have to do is drill the hole and press in the rod for fit, no more glue hanging about, and it would gather the light from the LED
B. Would be like a freeking lazer beam eye o' doom

All @VaporJoes needs to do is give the go ahead and I can make this model. It's completely tested and printable.

Actually so is yours, I made a couple small modifications and waiting to print a revision to show you then it should be gtg. :)

Dude a HAL drip tip stand would be awesome. I wish I could gradient colors during a print, however it becomes one or the other so it would look a little silly. Hmm...

I'll print that configuration next and call it the 2x4, but for now here is a preview of the stand. I built it to be super minimal, in fact the post in the back isn't even really needed to support a mod, but the side pods can have battery holders, atty holders, drip tips, open space, multiple mods... well you get the point :) Once I get to print out another sample config or two I will open up it's own post with a VU exclusive giveaway. So consider this a "teaser". That is coming along Great

Wondering how this could help US Vape Gear Entrepreneurs compete with the Big Boys and China?

"The manufacturing industry is going through the early stages of its own change. Until quite recently, it cost tens of millions of dollars to build a manufacturing plant. Today, 3-D printing and cloud manufacturing, a process in which entrepreneurs pay relatively little to access other companies’ machines during downtime, have drastically lowered the barrier to entry for new companies. Many imagine this will revitalize the business of making things in America. Successful factories, like accounting firms, need to focus on special new products that no one in Asia has yet figured out how to mass produce. Something similar is happening in agriculture, where commodity grains are tended by computer-run tractors as farming entrepreneurs seek more value in heritage, organic, local and other specialty crops. This has been manifested in the stunning proliferation of apple varieties in our stores over the past couple of years."http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/16/magazine/welcome-to-the-failure-age.html?_r=0
