A bit ago, I found out that I needed to let my doctors play with my insides.

Also keep in mind that I have always vaped discretely in my doctors offices with no issues.

Anyway, I needed to go in for a pre-op check up (to make sure I would survive surgery.

And I vaped the whole time there. Not a word was said.

Show up the day of the operation. I vaped in the waiting area until it was time to put on the funny gown and get the IV installed.

Vaped until they came to take me to the operating room and at that point, I handed my gear to Mrs. Uncle.

Had surgery, woke up and soon I was vaping again in my room.

Still not a word said.

Doctors and nurses in and out and still vaping.

Along with my trusty E-Reader, I had brought some extra heads, batteries and liquids.

When the time came, I asked the nurse to plug in my wall wart and cable so I could do a recharge while I took a nap.

Not an issue.

I was released the next afternoon and not one single peep from the doctors or nurses.

Very cool! I'm sure it all depends on the hospital, heaven knows I've spent plenty of time at our local one with the husband. But I've never asked about their policies, I just go the stealth route to avoid conflict.

Hope everything went well. I just stealth vaped in the bathroom hanging out with the wife after her surgery. No one said a work about any smells, etc. Keep the clouds to a minimum...;)

Why would you ever vape where you would not smoke.

Them not complaining != it is okay. You are a mod, you should know better...

I'd say there's a big difference when vaping discretely to lets say, calm nerves and "blowing clouds in the faces of children" so to speak as an example.
With discretion and common sense, are 2 different things all together. Again I still have trouble with people who compare vaping to smoking, but that is just my opinion.

what if the children seem to enjoy it, or if they don't complain? does that make it okay.

Hey Whiskey, I hope all is well now. When I had surgery I also vaped in the hospital without any issues. I did ask my surgeon when I could vape again, and his reply was "anytime you want to". He put it on my chart and all was well

Well, I thought that since the hospital was already adding PG into the air supply I would help them cut their cost bay adding a bit of my own PG and perhaps save them and us a few bucks.

BTW, did you catch on to the fact that NO ONE said one single thing about my vaping?

Possibly because I had my gear set to comfort and not the stun or kill settings with little to no vapor wafting through the air near my bed?

Now if there had been children, I would have brought my Sigelei 100 watt with a multi coil dripper of some kind, loaded the thing with freaking pluid and had myself a good old time!

When a TV commercial comes on that I don't want my Kids to see, I blow a huge cloud in between them and the TV. They laugh their asses off instead of watching the shit commercial.

Nope, no worries about my activating your webcam to spy on you.

For two reasaons.

A) I am a Luddite by nature. Don't know how to do it and don't care to learn.

B) I don't want to have to claw out my eyes because of what I would most likely see if I did the above.

What goes on between you and small farm animals in the privacy of your own home is your own business!

Not even close.

I wear glasses and I have a mustache and a goatee as well.

No to mention a full head of hair so I don't wear a head scarf.

I work in IT at a hospital...I vape all day there and do it in a low key manner (no cloud chasing or in any way that would attract negative reactions)...no one cares....I've noticed a good number of people starting up there as well...

My roommate was recently involved in a very very very bad dog attack...I had to tourniquet both her arms and rush to the hospital...long story short, the doctors and the nurses were really glad when they walked by our room didnt smell like bum piss and old people farts... :)

I recently had two visits to the hospital 9 days the first time and 11 the second. The first visit I was prepared to stealth vape till I found out it was ok to vape there. Only thing I was not prepared for was the antibiotics made my juice taste horrible. So the second visit I made juice with no flavors and all was fine.

I just said, Silence != Okay. It is common courtesy to not vape anywhere you would not smoke. It is because of people like you we have to constantly listen to people complain about vaping douchebags who vape where ever they go. It does not matter if you are discreet or not, just don't do it. It is extremely simple! Do you really think vaping in hospitals (or anywhere indoors), no matter how safe it is, going to put this culture in a positive light? I never expected such behavior from VU staff. @VaporJoes is this the kind of image you want for vaping?

I work in a hospital. A very small minded rural hospital. Patients are not allowed to vape because the morons here consider them a "tobacco" product. We employees are not allowed to either. I work in the lab, at night, there's nobody here but me and one coworker and my coworkers don't care. As a matter of fact, they kinda like the smell of my juice. On a couple of occasions a clerk or nurse has come in here and caught me and yes, turned me in. I've been spoken to twice. Will I stop? No. Will I be more careful about it? Definitely. And before anyone says I should educate them I tried that. You should have seen the faces! I don't feel the need to try and change their minds. I take a lot of pride in the number of people I work with that have made the switch from cigs to vaping. That's good enough for me. (As I sit here vaping at work!)

Speedy recovery Uncle!

When I was in, I just vaped flavorless; less chance of there being a stink raised about it. Harmful to others? We all know better than that. Ask permission? How much is this room and just who the hell do you think is paying for it!

Yes in fact it is, here at VU we are free to post what ever we feel like posting as long as it doesn't break one of our few rules, those who don't agree with the poster are also free to voice their opinions as well, what too many members here forget is that staff are also members and are also entitled to post and have their own opinions.

This is such a dumb thing to do. You guys do realize that this only gives an opportunity for people to bash on vaping right? People have the right to clean air, do not vape any where you would not smoke. Like seriously, do not take advantages of your freedom. Things like this is what fuels the anti-vaping behavior. Kindly do not spoil this lifestyle for other people who are not trying to be jerks.

No you misunderstood my point. Does VU really promote the douchey nature of vaping anywhere they like? Thanks to countless people like the OP, vaping gets a negative image. Do not vape where you would not smoke. This is an extremely fair and easy rule to follow.

First of all, your points are not without warrant and are good ones, However.... lets separate the types of vapers and not call all vapers trying to take advantage of those freedoms, putting them all in one basket, the differences, are those that vape to expose and flaunt clouds , and those that are careful to stealth as much as possible and will refrain if asked. Your energy would be better spent, on those that more deserve a slap aside the head for trying to be noticed, having "look at me"attitudes and acting belligerent in public places with their vaping, Just sayin

However, I DON'T equate vaping and smoking. Antz equte vaping and smoking. We can be offensive with our smells or our attitudes, but I don't for a minute put the two together. As far as giving them fuel, they've already got the fuel. We've simply become another object for their fire to burn.

The instant I equate vaping and smoking I admit I'm a smoker. In the meantime I'll make an effort not to hurt anyone else.

Lol don't even get me started on blowing clouds in public. It doesn't matter if you are blowing huge clouds or barely exhaling anything. Just don't do it. It without a doubt gives us a negative image, like we need any. And if someone is having problems controlling their urge to vape for few minutes, they need to see a doctor. Just step out of the building and vape their. People really need to understand this if we want to keep Vaping alive. It is an extremely simple thing to follow and anyone who does not do this is a complete jerk who has no respect for others.

And while you are here, why isn't there like a huge banner on the forum informing everyone about CASAA's latest call to action? Every other forum has one. All I see is a yellow giveaway banner which we all know is nothing but a way to advertise @VaporJoes services. Really makes me question the true nature of this forum.

Of course, don't run somewhere else with Uncle's thread.

I think it's great, and revealing, that people who are truly hands-on in the healthcare industry are not dead set against us, as we might sometimes think. The ones actually doing the work can better see vaping for the good it does. That's why the security guard in front of the hospital gets more excited than the nurses in the rooms or even the doctors.

Remember, it never has been about our health. It's about the money.

Uncle, here's some Raisined Brandy to ya!

If I were your nurse, I'd say vape on. If you're in a private room, what's the harm? I'm not sure I could let it slide if you had a roommate, unless they were cool with it. I have an office to myself during the day and I vape there, in the 'smoke free' hospital!

In a perfect world, we'd give ecigs to our smoking patients instead of nicotine patches, since we all know how much the patch curbs the craving (lol). My hospital has a policy that if the patient chooses to leave his room to go smoke, he is considered to be leaving Against Medical Advice and forfeits his treatment and must start over again in the ER.

I see what you're saying. Completely. Kinda agree, mostly don't. If that's the rule YOU live by, I support it. As far as THIS being why vaping is being seen in a negative light, completely disagree. We have FAAAAAARRRR larger problems! First the people who see vaping as smoking, the deeming FDA regulations, the dumbasses who actually go in public and blow plumes in people's faces in blatant disregard for the respect of others, the ass clowns that think adults don't like candy and sweet treat flavors, and the people who get into it never smoked a cigarette in their lives and are now addicted to nicotine from vaping, etc, etc.
Follow the call to action today protect vaping.
This is small potatoes bro!
Also, I vape in the hospital when my wife had both our children,i vaped in the kitchen where I worked, if there was a problem they'd say so and I probably would have stopped. I don't want to stand in the smokers pit like an outcast inhaling second hand smoke! I quit, I don't want to be inhaling the shit that's worse than being on the other side of the filter!
Again call to action TODAY! That's where all efforts should be!
Vape it if you got it!

I'm in civil service in a very progressive city of a very progressive state.

As much as I'd love to be able to vape indoors where I work, and believe me as soon as the sub-zero arctic tundra hits here it'd be lovely, I just can't. My employer is always about two steps ahead of trends with making policies. I'm relegated to anywhere outside of the property just like the smokers. We've had anti-vaping policies since 2008.

For those of you that currently can: more power to you and don't give it up without a fight.

I just put people on ignore instead of getting caught up in what would likely end up as a futile, never ending circular debate where no one is ever going to change their mind....if they want to claim victory as a result, more power to them...but seriously, who really cares? LOL

Then DON'T!

Sadly, it seems that I need to flesh this out a bit and use small words.

Sorry, no pictures for you as I have not had crayons in my house for 30 years now.

Again, I had my gear set to satisfy instead of being set to complete ASSHOLE!

LITTLE TO NO VAPOR TO SEE!!!

OR SMELL!!!!

PRIVATE ROOM!

SURGEON AND THE "GAS PASSER" (ANESTHESIOLOGIST) Both knew I vaped before hand and had no problems with it afterwards and BOTH GAVE ME THE THUMBS UP FOR NOT FREAKING SMOKING!

They each witnessed me handing my Sigelei 30 Watt Mini to Mrs. Uncle before wheeling me into the operating room.

Then when I woke up, the freaking SURGEON was there to tell me that all went according to plan and saw the Mrs. give my Sigelei back to me.

He SMILED and said, "It looks like you are feeling OK so I will see you tomorrow!"

And I am sure I mentioned that one of the nurses was more than happy not only to plug in my freaking "Wall Wart" with an extra long USB/Mini charging cable into the wall socket behind my bed and then go through the EXTRA EFFORT to offer taping the cord to the frame of my bed so I could charge my battery while I slept and not have the cable drop to the freaking floor!

I also had several nurses and assistants ask me about my gear and vaping in general..

I gladly took the time to answer all of their questions............Like I had anything better to do.

FOUR of them left with scraps of paper with this written on it..........

vapingunderground.com

Send PM's to UncleRJ for personal help :D

Seems that they wanted family members and loved ones to consider vaping and stop the cancer sticks!

Sadly, I have a lot of doctors in my life now.

ALL OF THEM support my vaping and allow it in their offices.

Except for one of them who had an ASSHOLE come in with from what I understand a mech and a dripper and blow clouds in his face.

So there is now a sign in the reception room that says "No Smoking or Vaping".

To qoute Monty Python.

"Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink...Say No More"

He still lets me do it once I am out of the main lobby.

Why, BECAUSE I AM NOT AN ASSHOLE!!!

When I go to visit my GP, first thing out of his mouth................

"Are you still vaping and not smoking?"

In reply, I take a small hit from the device of the day and in return I get a big assed grin and a "Thumb's Up".

My dentist is thrilled as well.

No tobacco stains to clean up!

I see this as a SUCCESS STORY!

As vapers our goal should be to be accepted by the general public.

And to quote the late Justin Wilson, "I Gaurandamntee you" that if I tried to light up a cigarette, cigar or pipe, the outcome of this story would have been quite different!

PS.

IF NONE OF THE DOCTORS, NURSES, ASSISTANTS OR HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATORS DID NOT SAY "BOO" OR OTHERWISE GIVE A HOT DAMN THAT I WAS VAPING IN THE HOSPITAL AND EXPOSING THEIR EMPLOYEES TO MY "NOXIOUS" FUMES WHY SHOULD YOU!

I see your points but I just see it as it is really necessary to vape right up to the point of getting knocked out for surgery, and immediately after awakening? It just seems a little crazy.
