Should I get a mech or VW mod

Hey, I know this question gets asked a lot, but I'm looking to upgrade my setup and I can't seem to decide what's best for me.
I currently have and Innokin iTaste VV V3 and am not really satisfied with it anymore. I want to experiment with different coils (I don't think I need to go lower than the limit with most VW mods) and my options are pretty limited with the iTaste. I'm also looking for better battery life.
So I'm looking for an upgrade, probably some kind of 30w mod or a mech. I need to make a good choice because I won't be able to get another one soon. I understand the differences, but I haven't tried any of them and there are no vape shops that I know of where I live (Slovenia)
Can someone give me any tips on how to decide? Maybe I should get a mech with a kick?
Thanks for all the help.

You can get a mechanical clone for cheap. Don't skimp on the battery or charger. Get a trusted cell like the Sony VTC5. And a Efest LUC charger or a Xtar SP2, Nitecore are good too, but they have a low charge rate.
VW I wouldn't get anything lower than 30 watts.

If you go mech defiantly get good batteries. I like the purple efest batteries. The dna 30s are awesome also for a vw device. Like the above post I wouldn't go lower than 30 w also. I bought an itaste mvp 2 and its not a bad device I just wish I knew then what I know now. If I did I would have gotten a dna 30 or the ltd2 50. But if you like to play eith watts go with a regulated mod.

If you wait for the new 100w box mods, you can get VW machine that allows for Mech Mod sub ohm ability. I think Im wanting to get one of the 100w mods myself so I can try a good drip setup.

I love mechs, it's what I use day in and day out. That being said, I also have a DNA30 box mod that I absolutely love and use quite frequently as well. I'm at the point where I know what I like and I pretty much build most of my coils at around the same resistance, so a mech works great for me. If you want 1 "do all" device and if your interested with playing with different builds and different coil resistances, your best bet is more than likely going to be a VW device, like people stated, you can get DNA30 clones, 50watt box mods, and Sigelei is comming out with a 100watt box mod. I typically don't go over 15watts, but I like to drip on around 25 watts. Everyone's likes are different.

I have both but found I prefer RTA's over RDA's. So my builds range between .8 and 1.8ohm. So for RTA's my Seigeli 20watt works so well I just ordered a Seigeli 30 watt for $70- I also have a SS 26650 tube from VariTube that is compatible with both Mods. My Seigeli 20watt will fire down to .8 Ohm

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'll get a VW device. What do you think about the iPV V2 50? It seems reasonably priced and good. Oh and are cheap mech mod clones from fasttech safe to use, provided I use good batteries? I might actually get one of those later.

id wait for the iPV2s (the 's' part) if you are interested in those. give it a week they will be on the market, and yes fast tech mechs are fine as long as they have vent holes and you use good vtc5s or vtc4s.

I was in you same shoes about a year ago. Exciting! I have used a 30W box mod but don't own one yet. The decision is completely dependent on you. Which direction do you want to go first? The nice thing is there is no wrong or right answer so long as you are getting what you need.

I ended up getting an inexpensive mech from fasttech (think I spent about $12). I went that route so that I could spend more money on batteries (I got 4 vtc4, still use them), a good charger, a couple of different wire sizes, some rebuilding tools, a variety of wick, a kayfun clone (still one of my favorites), and an IGO W. I spent under $100 bucks and fell in love with rebuilding and mechs. Over the last year I have bought 9 other mechs, 5 more RBAs and 2 RTAs. I'm happy with my devices for now and may decide later to buy a 30W plus device. Dunno.

Good luck and have fun.

@Soulkarve can you please link me the kayfun clone you bought? I think they have a bunch of different ones. I sold some old stuff I don't need for 200€ so I'll be buying some rebuildables and wires as well, just not decided about the mods. I'll probably end up buying a mech clone too since the fasttech ones are cheap and I'll be using the same batteries as the ones in the VW mod.

My pleasure! I have purchased both the kayfun 3.1 and the kayfun lite plus.

The first one I got from Fasttech is the kayfun 3.1. It has been a solid performer. I didn't care for the fill port on these because it requires a needle tip fill bottle which really isn't a problem so long as you have one and have the liquid you want to use in the bottle. If you don't fill from the port (top fill) you run the risk of getting some slight leaking.

The second one I bought was the kayfun lite plus black edition v2 from Custom Mod Creation. They are a bit more pricey than others but well worth it IMO. There are some slight modifications to these like better airflow and better fill port and a few other changes. I prefer this style because it's shorter than the 3.1 and I have had very little to no leaking even if I top fill which you don't need to do with the this one because the fill port is a sealed screw.

Honestly, both have been great. Fasttech has the price point and CMC has the features. Both are quality devices.

I want to mention a suggestion for your first mech too. There are die hard fans out there that will tell you that one is better than others. Really it's personal preference of aesthetics and some functionality and for your first mech your not going to know what you like most till you have some time with one. Some ARE better quality than others so buy from a good source. Fasttech can be hit or miss, as I'm sure you are aware. Anyway, the nemesis clones are simple, functional, easy to find online and there are tons of different materials and colors to choose. If you are a Star Wars fan, check out the Clone V1 from Stealthvape. It's my everyday device.

Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed reply! I'll get that Kayfun from fasttech and probably a Nemesis clone as well since they're so cheap. Just one thing about the Nemesis, I don't see any vent holes at the bottom. Is that a problem?
And one question about the batteries. I'll get Efest Purples and I see there are several options for 18650 models:
18650 2500mAh 35A Nipple Top
18650 2500mAh 35A Flat Top
18650 3100mAh 20A Flat Top
My questions about those are:
Is the nipple/flat top bit important, or do most devices accept both types?
Is 20A discharge enough or am I better off with the 35A ones for mech and regulated devices? I'm guessing 35A is safer, but 3100mAh looks sexy as hell (especially compared to the 800mAh I have now)
Thanks again for all the help!

The mech crowd are generally die hard fans and the box mod crowd is the same so opinions vary greatly.
If you drip you are likely to prefer one while the tank lovers generally prefer the others.

SO subjective to how you want to use it, what type juice and nic you prefer (and if you are after flavor or cloud).

Vent holes are important at least that is to say that if your battery has a problem it HAS to be able to vent or you end up with a grenade. So it's important when you need it. The nemi does have a vent hole underneath the lock ring. The pics don't show it but it is there.

As far as batteries... the industry is trending towards flat tops. I have a few button tops but don't us them anymore because most devices are designed for flat tops. You want to buy the best batteries you can afford. The efest are good batteries definitely get the 35A. Another suggestion are the Sony VTC4s or 5s. They are all I use anymore.

Just for fun or as a test to see how much amperage and wattage your coils will draw, download a free amp calculator either in your computer or your smartphone and play around with different ohms vs amps. You may be surprised how much draw there is on even a 1 ohm coil. As you play with building coils you may get yourself into a very low ohm coil and an extremely high draw which would be bad if your batteries can't handle the load. It's a safety thing.

Another suggestion for you, if you don't have one already, buy an ohm reader. They are pretty inexpensive ($10 - $15, I think even FT sells them) but will show you the ohms of your build before you load the battery. Plus it will help you keep track of the ohms of your various builds. You will start to know what a 28ga 6/7 wrap will give you either in a single or double set up approximately every time you wrap one. Again it's a safety thing.

I am always happy to help a fellow vaper, so feel free to pm me too.

Me, I am a huge fan of the VW mods and all the built in protection features they have to keep me from burning down my house or hurting myself.

And with all the new 50 and 100 watt mods coming out (some to have upgrades to increase the output in the future) I would tend to wander in that direction.

Lord knows you will not be wanting for power!

Thanks for all the help! I ended up ordering a Nemesis clone, a bunch of rebuildables (the Kayfun and two drippers), Efest purple batteries and with an Efest LUC charger, some Kanthal and some drill bits, a torch and pliers. I'll probably get iPV2s too when it comes out and I get some more cash.
I can't wait to get my vapemail!
