Is Vaping Weakening my Immune System?

I know that some of us are pretty hesitant to knock any part of vaping, and I genuinely believe that it is far better than smoking, but here's the problem. I maybe get sick twice a year and I've not thrown up in at least 2 or 3 years. In other words I have a relatively strong immune system. Problem is, I have recently come down with another cold. The third one in 2 months. I've been vaping about a year. Smoking for about 6 months prior to that year (luckily I saw the dangers quickly.)

My question is this. Does vaping actually weaken the immune system like some of the studies say? Or should I perhaps try to just practice better vaping hygeine (sterylizing and cleaning tips and tanks more often?) I'd like to keep vaping, but if it is the culprit behind my recent bouts of illness, I cannot justify it. I play in a band and I can't afford to sound like shit when I sing every couple of weeks.

I haven't heard of vaping weakening the immune system, and in my experience it has helped it quite a bit. I went from 4-5 colds per year, with at least a couple bouts with bronchitis, even inflamed lungs, while smoking. I now have about one cold a year, and it clears up in a couple days with no lung aftereffects. I believe you'll find many vapers have had similar improved overall health. Good luck figuring this out!

No idea. Not for me, but I have a strong immune system. Mine hasn't been compromised like most Americans by antibiotics and hand sanitizers...

I know a few people that have allergies to specific flavors and or PG .. Hair falling out, numbness in their face - but that's due to an allergy not overall vape safety..

I have not had any health related issues with vaping.
That being said...

Health Supplement Recommendations:
1.) Echinacea with Goldenseal Root
2.) Zinc with Vitamin C

The combination of these two should help boost your immune system.
I would recommend you not to use Echinacea longer than a couple weeks at a time and then take a break from it.
It is best to take these at the first onset of anything affecting your immune system such as a common cold.

Problem is, I have recently come down with another cold. The third one in 2 months.
There is something going around that is Truly Evil. I've known a number of people to come down with it, whatever it is. I'm one of them. Some people, like my wife, cough horribly when they get it. Both she and a colleague's daughter coughed so hard, so much, they bruised muscles and had to go on medication. I didn't get the cough, but I got the rest of it: Sinus congestion, sinuses running like a faucet, sore throat, headache, generally feeling like death warmed over and, above all, no energy and wear out quickly. Worst of all: Just when you think it's on its way out: You exert yourself and *bang*: It's back--with a vengeance.

I caught it... (thinking...) Seven weeks ago. Knocked me down for two. On week three I thought I was good. Returned to my workout schedule, starting out real light. Finally was back to nearly where I'd been before I got sick. After three workout sessions where I actually worked up a decent sweat: *WHAM*! It returned. Another two weeks on the "injured" list. Worked out one day in the third week and the next day I was destroyed, incl. a mean, mean headache that finally took Ibuprofen to get under control.

I'm now on Week 4 following this... things counter-attack and going really, really slowly restarting my workout regimen.

This all started before I took up vaping, btw.

Humans have a tendency to see patterns where none exist. I'm a nurse, I see this all the time. (I ate xxx yesterday and got sick last night, therefore the xxx made me get sick.)

The fact that you've gotten 3 colds in 2 months - after vaping for a year - makes me doubt that your immune system has been adversely affected. It's probably that you've simply been exposed to different cold viruses. There are (something like) 80 different rhinoviruses but after you get one, you're generally become immune to that specific one.

That's why people tend to get fewer colds as they get older - they've already been exposed (and are therefore immune) to the more common ones.

Anecdotally, I'm sick now for the second time this year...haven't been down twice in a year since I started vaping, but when I smoked I got sick at least 3 or 4 times a year.

The cold and flu season has really been busy this year. Several students in my area, and others have been hospitalized with severe cases of the Flu. So I would say you're just catching a dose of what's been getting to everyone else. I've only had one cold all year, and I don't have what's considered the best immune system in the world.

I hope it does. I have an illness that actual causes my immune system to be over active. While that might sound like a good thing, it's actually quite miserable.

First of all, I have to apologize for the late response, my email notifications for the site weren't working properly, and I was not aware that so many people had commented.

Anyway, thank you all for sharing your similar experiences, my mind has been thoroughly put at ease, and I have quit smoking and returned to vaping once again after my sudden immune system paranoia.

I suppose the good that came of this post was that I was able to feel the difference between vaping and smoking even in just a matter of weeks. So it goes to show, even for someone like me who is naturally skeptical of vaping, which lets face it, could have some well hidden pitfalls, is still endlessly better than the cancer sticks.

Thanks guys!

Other than Inflammatory Bowel Disease that got worse when I quit smoking and then quit nicotine I was about the same, I'd get sick when I was exposed to someone's germs.
It's very possible/likely that nicotine is an immune suppressant and that is part of why smoking or nicotine/5asa works to treat Ulcerative Colitis.
But vaping would be less immune suppressant than smoking. And if you use PG it would be antibacterial, maybe antiviral.

i've read most of the other comments, but not all. My question is how many people do you let use your mods? :p Might be a dumb question but it's what came to my mind. If someone is on the verge of coming down with something and they use your mod (or if you use theirs better yet) you'll more than likely get it. Once again, prolly dumb. But something to think about.
