Yea....umm....Nope. Your telling us you basically hot steeped an ounce of tobacco, used it at 2% flavoring and got a decent vape? What brand and name of tobacco are you talking, because I want some. I've got close to 50 tobacco extractions under my belt and the fastest concentrate from an ounce of any tobacco I've used has taken me at a minimum of 4 weeks and that's heat assited.

Yup, bought the tobacco blends at a custom pipe tobacco shop.

it does in a way.. you can try his method.. or..
you could do mine.. which is his first 4 steps and time.. anywhere from 24 hours to 3 days..
stir.. replace pg if needed.. and give another 24-36 hours..

by then, use anywhere from 2-4% :)

Thanks, Smoky Blue. I will try this method. Which teas have you extracted successfully. I'll be doing 2 tisane blends and maybe an earl grey.

I just finished filtering another of the same 3 flavors that I let steep a week and a half before filtering to see if there was a difference. Will let you know my results soon!

lipton regular is what I have tried, with the best turn out..
I found some kind of black currant tea and well, wasn't too happy with it..
but pretty much you want it to absorb the pg and release the flavors..

never ever use cigarettes.. but pipe tobaccos, and cigar/cigar leaves are acceptable.. :D

loose teas are messy.. if you have any.. try using a homemade tea bag.. easier on filtering.

I wonder how it would taste via alcohol? This Boston Cream Pie Tobacco sure tastes great with my Asahi right now!

I am just finishing off my first NET now, just have to filter and decant.

I too made to vanilla tobaccos from two nice Cavendish blends + Mexican vanilla beans mmmm... As well as a light chocolate tobacco and a blend of sweet Virginia and Burley whole leaf top off with a tad of a chocolaty tasting tobacco. I can't wait! All 3 of the tobaccos you made (the op) sound mmm mmm good. I'll let you know how mine come out and if good maybe we could do a sample of each others.

Love the thread .

I have to try this method, seems pretty easy. I have been a bit hesitant to try to extract some tobacco out of fear of just making a mess or something deadly lol. I have some really nice McClelland tobaccos calling my name....

Great :-(D I actually decided to give it a few more days before I finished it, so it's been about 6 days now. I used a method of heating - cooling - heating - cooling - ect. No alcohol, just 100% PG on 3 of them and 95/5 VG/PG on the All Natural whole leaf tobacco blend. Because of the way in which osmosis works the most you will be able to extract from the tobacco in 1 go is 50%, so that is why I did extra time, to make sure I was at that threshold. If using everclear/vodka you could repeat your process (different from mine) more than once to extract more than 50%.

I have a question though. How do you decant your extracts? And do you decant from the extract or after mixed with unflavored nice?

Be careful not to overdue the heating or it will turn bitter. I do not decant with nic after extraction. Just save for mixing later. I decant them in Balls Mason Jars after filtering a few times, first with SS Mesh and then with coffee filters. With my method, the flavor is great mixed around 2-3% so plenty strong for me. Please share your results. Good luck! Have Fun!

I prefer to use PGA ( everclear) as the solvent for steeping the tobacco, I then filter steeped PGA thru coffee filter to remove tobacco. Once steeped and filtered, I evaporate most of the PGA off and then filter again to remove excess oils formed. The condensed extract is then added to VG and VG nic base at 15-30% to produce an amber clear juice that wont gunk up coils/wicks in 3 hours ;)
its a bit more work with the filtering and evaporating phases but the juice is very clean....

I want to give the everclear method a go. Could you explain how you perform the evaporation process?

This post was found in an ancient ruin, probably left by aliens.

How much final product does this method yield? I realize it takes up a person's valuable time to be detailed with their recipes online, but I argue that, if you're going to post recipes at all, post a thorough and completely useful recipe. For instance, how are you titrating 2% extracted flavor to 70% Pg, 30% Vg and 20% nic? this equals 122%.

DIYing recipes allows people to escape the high cost of easily purchasing juice from companies. So posting vague and uncomprehensive recipes just further insures that people are more likely to give up and purchase e-juice instead of making their own.

No offense, but we should all put a little more into sharing knowledge than we are inclined to.

Regardless, I appreciate that you offered anything on the topic.

Thanks,

m

I am interested in how to produce NET E-Liquids myself.

Lot's of conflicting info out there.

And one of my bigger questions, is there an absolute best way to filter the product without loosing a lot of it in the process and how to do it without making a huge mess?

In searching for NET (naturally extracted tobacco) for e-juice online, I’ve found that most recipes are sketchy, vague and fail to give the ‘newb’ a thorough understanding of what is necessary to produce a tobacco like e-juice that is safe and tasty, or that offers actual quantities of yeild. Math?

In purchasing products for NET, my interest is in saving money in the face of purchasing small bottles of e-juice. So I want to know what vessels, nicotine testing kits, and other such things I’ll need to make and explore recipes properly. I also want to see ratios in online recipes. Unfortunately, most of the recipes I find are some person’s accounts that lacks a lot of information. Additionally, most people use unexplained acronyms for important terms that are known to the experienced but not to the aspiring makers out there. PLEASE offer useful information if you’re interest is education.

So here is a bulleted list, which I will be posting to multiple forums, of questions I have for anyone willing to help me with a serious recipe:
  • What containers, Ball jars, etc. should a heat assisted or cold steep require?
    • What size should a cooking/cold steeping container be for a certain yield?
    • What size container makes sense for mixing the extract into a final product?
  • Based on steeping method, how fine should tobacco be shredded/powdered?
    • I smoked Drum/Bali Shag/P. Stokkebye’s hand rolling tobacco for 20 years and would like to recreate their quality.
    • If using a heat/reduction method, what protective gear will I need?
  • I would like to achieve somewhere around a 70% VG/30% PG final product. Therefore, how much PG should be used for steeping, and how do I arrive at that ratio once the extraction is complete? I have seen too many recipes that list ingredients adding up to more than 100%. MATH people, math.
  • Time? Clearly timing differs based on cooking/steeping method. So, to best reproduce the smell/taste of raw pipe/handrolling tobacco, what is the best time to steep or cook?
  • When mixing a final extract, how much extract/flavor to PG, VG and nicotine (after figuring out the nicotine level of extract)?
    • What concentration/amount of nicotine extract should I order/use to bring my juice to 12mg?
  • Since I’m looking for a 70% VG/30% PG final product, what large quantities of ingredients should I purchase?
    • i.e. how many pints to quarts to gallons of PG, VG and nicotine extract does it make sense to purchase?
  • Finally, any recommendations of suppliers for purchasing bulk ingredients from?
I’m sure I’ve left important questions out, so if you entertain answering my questions, please feel free to offer more than I’ve asked. Hopefully this outline will provide more vapers with the information they need to make their own e-juice.

Thank you all.

there are threads over at ECF on extracting for NETs that have been going on for years..you may want to go look at them.

I do believe this is an old thread.. but all of the info is here.
It's really simple, if you use a calculator, to do the math

This is how I did mine:

1. Sterilized Three Balls Mason Jars
2. one oz. tobac to each jar
3. pour in pg to slightly above the tobac
4. put the lids on the jars
5. put a cast iron pan on the stove and placed the jars in the pan
6. add water to pan about half way up the capacity of the pan
7. bring water to a light boil for half an hour (add water as needed)
8. remove jars from pan and let stand for two hours
9. filter and decant
10. crack open a beer and drink, simultaneously mixed some juice,
I mixed 2% Extracted Flavor, 70% pg and 30% vg with 20% nic turned out lush
vape the very best tobacco I have ever had since I have been vaping (started 2008) also goes well with whiskey
11. enjoy
12. enjoy

You must realize, the quality of tobacco, the filtration, matter.
There are some things the naked eye can not see, so with N.e.t.s. you will be taking a risk on bacteria and other issues you can not see. Please do not make yourself sick attempting this. Make sure everything is sterile.

The pg has to saturate the tobacco/tea/spice, and thru heat, will it pull everything!! out. If you can read a cake box to figure out how to bake a cake, the rest is a simple
light boil, and time: a few hours.

The tricky is filtration... for that I recommend a mesh sheet of 500 grid and then do a step down to 400, etc. I have even used cotton balls pushed into a syringe.. however that is the hardest type..

Instead of directing people to a site that is not people friendly.. give it some time before anyone responds.. Good luck if you try this.. but again, realize N.E.T.s do carry risk.
