Went to GA to buy lotto ticket this afternoon. There is a lot of excitement with the jackpot pushing past 900 million. I usually don't play, but couldn't resist this time. It's mind boggling that someone stands a good chance of being worth 900 million more tonight.

Can I buy 25 cents worth for each game that you have?

In other words if you win I would get 1/8 share

Nah... ...I pay enough in taxes as it is. The powerball is the most zero-sum game of them all. Do you know how many millions of people are trying to win that 900 mil? There's no 'kinda' winning and the odds are infinitesimally low. Either you win, or you lose money. Most people lose money. A free play is worth as much as a paid ticket. Just play the regular lotto regularly and take an exponentially larger chance at winning a few thousand. That's the most that most people will see.

Maybe I'm jaded because I've spent enough time working in a convenience store to see this hype play out too many times.

One thing it has taught me is that the lotto isn't for people who need money. The most successful lotto players I've seen are the ones who will come in and drop $1000 on $20 dollar scratch-offs. They would spend all morning in the store, just scratching away by the nachos and chili dogs. But they walked out of there with some serious cash. Enough to cover weeks of buying $20 dollar scratch-offs, anyway. I always thought it was too bad that they would take their winnings and toss em back into the pot. But that is to say that they more than make their money back...

I heard nobody won. Since I forgot to get mine while I was out, I'll be sure to get one this time. Maybe that's why no one won! o_O

I'm gonna be a billionaire!!!
They're saying around 1.3 billion now.

I hardly ever play powerball, but we all chipped in at work on about $50 worth, won a massive $8...ha! But the chances of winning get slimmer and slimmer with each rising jackpot. Best time to play is when the jackpot is smaller, the chances of winning a lesser amount of money are greater.

Watch the news next week. As churches and food lines hit the news next week, about starving children. As people run to the ATM with their EBT cards, and spend all their money on worthless tickets.

I hope I am too. But these people I'm seeing in these long lines, make me wonder.

The lottery is the poor mans tax. It's a way for the Fed to recover some of that money, off the books.

Yeh, more wing nut stuff lol

Oh about 30 years ago now...I hitchhiked around Ireland.....at that time Irelands biggest export were people.....the Irish were spread across europe and america looking for work....they had a pretty high level of education in their work force but no jobs......anyway they had slot machines.(.I'd never seen them outside of Vegas )in poor nieghborhoods....the had off track betting in the poor nighborhoods....I thought it a bit odd, but didn't think about it much more...on reflection I realized for the poor and working class there was no hope of getting ahead in Ireland...that this gambeling was the futile fantasy of rising above a hopeless situation...the elite the rich had given the poor this fantasy it was one of the things that kept the elite from being murdered out of hand the people had this shabby threadbare hope...

At least someone is honest about what they'd spend winnings on.

I saw that, and died laughing.

I figure if I win. I'm going hunt this guy down and take him on a month long hookerfest. Just for shits and giggle.

In a pool with 20 other folks at work. Think I can live on my share !!!

In the news, residents (1200) of a small NY town pooled together and bought $10 worth each. For a total of 6,000 tickets.

Just got back with my guacamole fixins and my winning ticket. Woot!

Y'all better be good to me, for a few hours at least.
I'll bribe Joe to give you all the boot otherwise.
And if there's one thing we know about Joe... it's that he can be bought. :p

I figure 5-6 mill and the joint could be yours.
Lock, stock and hosting contracts. :D

Haha, I'll buy an island off the coast of FL for 6 mill, before I buy this forum.

The $8 I won isn't gonna buy much hookers and blow. Looks like I'm all in for some internet porn and a bottle of ibuprofen for a sore wrist.

Wow! There are some pissed off, broke ass folks this morning Hahaha

Check the winners, and where they're from. It seems there were an unusual number of millionaires produced in a certain geographical location last night. The Tin foil crowd is already screaming foul.

"Mafiaball" sounds like it could be legitimately fun, though.

How about "The Dollar Game." It's easy, you give them a dollar.

The end. That's the game. Wanna play again? Of course you do, we all do.
