The "honeymoon" period...? Need "seasoned" advice here.

January 1, I came home with an eGo ONE 2600mAh and a bottle of Eclipse (tobacco flavor by Space Jam).

Within a couple days, I had a TC40W and 3 or 4 tanks. Within another week, a (Joyetech) eVic VT 5000mAh and a pair of Crowns. As of last week or so, add an iJust 2 tube for portability/backup and another tank or two. 8 or 9 tanks, 4 mods, I can't tell you how many different juices (having them mixed for me now after mixing a few sample flavors here and there), along with many of the "usual suspects" (MBYC, Deviant, Boosted, Element, Bearded Dragon, etc., etc., etc.). Experimenting with different coils (Vaporesso!!!), haven't had a ciggy in weeks, blah, blah, blah.

*Almost* thought I'd make it through the first month coming out ahead of cigarette money. At this point, I'm not really even sure how much juice I'm going through as I'm actually utilizing all of those tanks and switching them out with freakish regularity. I can tell you that over 200ml of Crema was gone in around 2 weeks, along with gobs and gobs of others. If I had to estimate, I'm burning through *at least* 20ml a day and possibly considerably more - Just by looking at the empty bottles.

I'm assuming I'm overdoing it. Although I feel much better than I did six weeks ago.

I'm not trying to be one of those guys with a collection - not that I'd ever knock those guys. I'm not trying to hang with the hardcore. I'm just a guy who is quitting smoking and finding myself REEEEEEEAAAAAAALLY enjoying the substitute.

SO, THE QUESTION: Does the "newness" wear off some over time? Does this "honeymoon" period eventually normalize some? Even at about (okay, a little over) a carton a week, I wasn't a "chain smoker" by any stretch. But in a very short period, I've turned into a chain-vaper. And that wasn't my intent. Although I assume I can cut back, I only find myself wanting more.

On the bright side, my latest orders are all 0mg nic.

But is this more or less a normal experimental phase that wears down into a "groove" at some point?

Just hoping some vaping-vets can chime in and let me know how the beginning went for them.

Ecigs are an upfront cost aside from the juice. Also i am not sure why you are going with 0 nic. If I had gone to 0 nic so fast or off the bat I probably would have went back to smoking because I would have not truly been satisfied which could be part of your issue. I mean it could be your vaping so much because you just truly enjoy is so very much but if I were to bet your vaping so much because you need to almost perma vape because your missing that nic kick and what your vaping is not doing it for ya even though it tastes great.

I always recommend new vapers vape the highest nic they can buy and/or stand because it will help you with cravings. Nic is not the harmful part of smoking a cig its the other 6000 chems and the actual burning that is. Nic honestly is no more harmful than caffeine

Vaping does become a hobby though so if your simply vaping a ton because you simply love it then welcome to the club and be prepared to spend more as it happens faster than you think but there are worse things to spend money on than vaping. You might try a bottle of a juice you really like though in the highest nic level to see if it slows you down a bit though. I have been vaping since Jan 2011 and recently went down to 3mg and kicked it up to 4-6mg because the 3 was just a hair to little to satisfy me.

The need to BUY ALL TEH SHINY THINGS subsides...after a couple years. By then you should be able to limit yourself to a couple new gadgets a month...

As far as the liquid it's great if you're cutting your nic down, but don't worry about going straight to zero if you are a former smoker - if you're chain-vaping 20+ ml a day and you don't like that, it's probably because you're not getting enough nic to quench the thirst to stay off the smokes. I started at 18 mg, hit 24 for a brief second, then started tapering down and 3 years later I'm still at 3-4 mg with no intentions of dropping further - and I split that weekly carton with my wife back when I was buying 'em. Like @Superjeep says, it's all the other crap in cigarettes that will kill you, there's actually some fairly valid argument that a little nicotine keeps the brain sharp (which is why most of us could calm down and get back on task better focused after a smoke break in our previous lives).

I bought a variety of juices and hardware. I'm past the experimenting after finding my favorites.

Does this "honeymoon" period eventually normalize some?

Only if you want it to. Or time and money issues can put a damper on your motivation to acquire and learn more. I don't think that happens often.

As the black sheep here (apparently), I couldn't wait for it to normalize. All I really wanted was to get to a point where I could vape a good DIY juice on a reliable setup I liked. First the technology had to get better, then I had to catch up with the technology. Five years. I DIY everything in life I possibly can, but for some reason, any playtime for vaping is more like work, bordering on drudgery. That "caught up" feeling is only about three weeks old, and it's freaking amazing. No more tools to buy. I have multiple years worth of nic, wire and wicking. Two mods, two tanks, two RDAs and a dozen batteries. Just maintenance stuff from here on out.

That said, I just made a stand for the pieces of my Coil Master jig. Got sick of pouring everything out of the bag and picking up the stuff that rolled to the floor. Scrap 2x4 with a dozen holes drilled into it. Slammed it out in about 20 minutes. Bad ass.

Hey since vaping 0 mg making your own juice would be wise since no need to buy nic which will save you even more money. But if you do not have the time or care too then there are great juices you can buy at a very low cost. Like http://vaping.watch/eliquid/tmaxx-s-no-frills-ml-s

For me, it comes and goes. In the beginning, I was constantly replacing tanks, got a better one and was happy. Decided I needed a new mod, got one and was happy for quite some time! Then I got into DIY juice and needed ALL THE FLAVORS!! That's where the majority of my vape funds went, was into flavorings. Then in the last 6 months, the gear bug hit me again. Right now, I'm pretty satisfied with everything I have. I'm sure it'll strike again, but I'm happy right now.

It's kinda like tattoos. You get one, you're happy. The bug hits to get another, so you ponder what you really want, figure it out, get it, then satisfied again. For a lil bit, at least.

I'll never understand vaping at 0 nic. I've heard the reasons. I don't buy it.

There is a lot of really good stuff here already, but I'll give you my two cents.

The honeymoon period can last as long as you want it to for the most part. I don't understand why you've purchased straight 0mg bottles of juice though, do you plan on making your own juice and adding your own nic? For me, it's a matter of trial and error and finding a comfortable balance that works. When I started vaping on one of those pens I started vaping at 24mg nic juice. As I upgraded my gear, someone recommended that I try out a 6 or a 12 and see if it worked for me. The higher the nic levels add to a more satisfying throat hit which did a pretty good job at emulating a puff from a cigarette. However, I have never been good at doing things in moderation and found that I was overdoing it with my nicotine consumption. If you are constantly vaping on a flavor that you really enjoy, chances are that you're going to keep going and going even after you exceeded your typical nicotine craving. After all, a lot of these flavors taste much better than normal air all by itself. If you find a comfortable nic level and are still burning through juice, maybe consider a juice that doesn't taste as awesome as the previous. If you're making the switch from smoking over a carton a week, chances are you're gonna fly through those 0mg bottles of juice. I suggest starting high like OBDave suggested and working your way down. If you notice that you're starting to feel more sleepy than usual or spend most of your day extremely dehydrated, chances are you might be overdoing it. Keep us posted how this goes for you :D

Once I found what worked for me I lost the need to continue searching. I haven't found a better atomizer than a full size Russian. I did just purchase another after 2 years but only because they are getting hard to find and I wanted a backup. It is the best for natural flavors IMHO.
(I vape solely as a smoking alternative so maybe my experience is different than others).

To me, the constant influx of new tech is just a distraction... ...something I pick up for a while when I get a little bored with the usual. I've been vaping since 2011ish, so I've seen all sorts of gear pop up and gone through that process of vaping on something I used to think was the shit only to find myself wondering "OMG did I really used to like this?!" I dunno. After a while, you kinda start to recognize what you will like before you buy it and you stop buying as much gear.

I did hit that point sometime a couple of years ago, when I settled on mechanical mods and RDA's. I have my go-to builds that never change and my main RDA's that are always ready. I have a smorgasbord of different RDA's, a few regulated boxes that I play with and a couple of tanks to tinker with, but I do generally stick to that sub-ohm mechanical vape on just a handful of my favorite RDA's.

I still try just about everything, so I guess there's always that "Oooo! Shiny new thing!" component to it, but you do eventually find something to keep coming back to again and again.

The only reason I had is to get off cigs and I probably have to be off nic at least for a while as I'm surely to be tested soon by my insurance provider. May or may not go back to 3 or 6mg... Dunno. The only other reason I can even think of is just to have something to fall back on instead of snacking (which is working well also).

Other reasons I've evidently not heard.

I'm that person who must try all the new, shiny baubles. It's a disease. I need a support group.
