Some people here have made it their mission to degrade steve whenever he comments on anything. I used to think he was full of it, but started taking notice after the lets ban magoo thread.
So someone pushes his buttons (steve's) and he pushes right back. Then steve gets time out, but the others get a pass (or a slap on the back from the mods).
Seems to me, it has been encouraged to push his buttons to goad a response out of him.
I didn't like some of the things steve said either. But the responses were no less scathing. It's a real COWARD move to ban ONE person, but give others a free pass, or encourage this damn behavior.

I've only engaged Steve twice. Once in the thread I started and here in this one. All the other times I had him blocked. A couple of fat jokes don't even compare to the things he has said. He obviously enjoyed the attention otherwise he would not be provoking people. Besides, do you really think he is gone? If he didn't already have another account, he does now. That's how a troll works.

I was wanting to see this whole thing die, but now I feel as though I have to explain myself.
steve has attacked me about my "limp dick" and inability to walk since I was on ecf. so I wont apologize for having the opportunity to enjoy throwing his crao right back at him. how that results, i could give a shit less about. The guy crossed every line of decorum everywhere, and if that means he has to go on the VERY short list of people the VU has sent on vacation the fault is no one but his. i remember seeing two mods give him multiple warnings.
I just went back and saw it. It was a lot of back and fourth so I missed it. Honestly I could careless if they kept him around or banned him. Made no difference to me. He dug his own grave with the disgusting comments. And I agree with you 100% threats of violence should not be tolerated. As for tolerating trolls, that's between the mods and the troll.
Don't worry..I got a PM warning about that post.. I apologize to all you guys if it was offensive... It won't happen again..

Steve has been warned on SEVERAL occasions, not just tonight, to knock the shit off he threw out in here tonight. He clearly refused to do so, he was warned each and every time BEFORE he got his brief vacation. He's allowed to come back, but his actions here were intolerable. NOTHING was said to him that he hasn't dished out in this forum REPEATEDLY. Any points he received in the past were due to violations of the rules of the forum. Steve did this to himself. Quite honestly, I believe he wanted it and I know for a fact that I'm not alone in that opinion.
If you think we're anything like ECF, you're welcome to spend your time there and see how tolerant we truly are. Everything I said was well within the guidelines of the mud pit. I made the same type jabs he did. He came right back at me every time. I'm not responsible for his actions. He crossed a line the mods had set for him over and over. When they warned him, he attacked them. Don't see how you put the onus on me for his mistake.

i never went after anyone for a physical or mental handicap or called them a "limp dick"
theres a difference when it is something that cant be changed and a clearly bigoted comment ust calling someone an asshole or a douchebag is entirely different.
I'm not saying anyone else is blameless, but I'm fairly certain that since i have only been warned on my behavior here once, but seen him warned SEVERAL TIMES, that there is enough of difference that its an apples to oranges comparison.
I'm not trying to be rude or anything freemind, but for once in my life I have to say that i said my piece and honestly cant offer anything else from my perspective.
I crossed my own lines and boundaries that I set for myself. I don't think the things I said were near as bad as the disgusting comments he's made to others in this forum regarding physical limitations. However, yes I will conced that I acted like an asshole.
We have a points system in place. Steve reached those points. Once those points are reached, the forum software does it's thing. If no one else's points add up to the total that is required for a ban, then no one gets banned. Steve is on vacation. His vacation will last 30 days from today. He was not perma banned. We have a button for that, too.
No one is playing favorites.
VU mods can add points. If those points equal 10, then yes, we can make that ban. We are not allowed to "just ban" without admin.

So, if some mod would encourage other members to engage and poke at a certain member, they would in essence have that member do the "dirty work" so that the mod could issue points, right?
I'm not pointing to a conspiracy theory Huck, but obviously certain mods have been vocal about their dislike for steve.
You also did not answer my question as to who also got points. I knew that no one else did.
My whole point was never that steve should get a free pass. It's that if everyone is doing something, one person should NOT be made the whipping post, and the rest go scott free. Fair and blanaced moderation. That's something I am not seeing.

And I'm not asking you to explain who else got "points". I already know only one person got any, so I am not making a big hairy deal about it. Just making a point. If that upsets you because I singed you with a little truth, I'm sorry. My point is made.

I can't speak for any other moderators, but I've handed out points and warnings for just about every rule we have here. Do I dislike Steve? I don't know him, but this character he's portrayed here in this forum... no I don't like his actions or his treatment of other people. That doesn't mean that I get to act out on it. I have "bosses" to answer to, also. Hell, he's talked to me the same way he's talked to other people, WITHOUT receiving any points or warnings at all. Do I like seeing people being attacked, repeatedly? Absolutely not. When someone ends up on our radar, yes we have to watch closely. I can't tell you how many times we've responded to reports and have had to babysit threads because of that. Each and every one of us have received private messages with complaints. THAT sets off mental alerts that someone needs to be watched a little, and no, he's not the only person we've ever had to watch. We don't take it lightly, we don't make decisions like these on our own. We chat amongst ourselves before taking action, including this fiasco tonight. Banning someone is not our goal.
When we see violations, we alert other mods that are on at that time. We discuss, we come to a decision.
Nothing I say is going to change your opinion, and that's not my goal, anyway. I have my POV, you have yours. We're both allowed.

As I noted, elsewhere: I'm pretty certain getting banned was his goal. Tho I suspect he had hoped to achieve it through an expression of pique, rather than the mundanity of accumulating enough points for an automated temporary suspension.
