Wonder if it was actually a mod or a spare battery. He put something in his pockets, maybe keys, maybe change. Aside from the burns her received, glad he's ok. I wonder if we'll ever find out what he was using, what exactly he was carrying.

Bad shit does happen. All the more reason to research what you're using.

spare battery

I'm by no means an expert, but I've seen a few 'venting' videos and none of them ever looked like that when inside a mod. The mod itself would contain most of the sparks except for what vented out through the proper holes. This, a spare naked battery, would fit this to a 'T.' I might be wrong, but I've never seen a battery in a mod vent like that, even when people are trying to make it happen. Battery by itself, however.

Yeah, I remember reading a thread here a long time ago. A dude had a battery in his pocket, nothing else... forgot about the battery later and put keys in his pocket. Remembered quickly after feeling his pocket heat up quickly.

I did this exact thing myself, when I very first got into mechs and 18650's. It was with pocket change, it didn't vent but it got very hot, very fast. I was swapping batteries and didn't think of it, just looking to free up the hand and take it inside to charge it. Happened fast, too, I'm lucky it didn't vent in my pocket.

edit: That's right, ol' Burley fucked up once. I feel comfortable enough with you folk that I can cite a boneheaded noob move I made once.

I got a little change in my pocket goin' jing-a-ling-a-ling
Along with a battery and maybe a ring
But each time I walk, I get the same old thing
Always a short and some heat and I burn off my ding
My honey my baby, don't use that dildo on the shelf
She said don't hand me no lines and keep the blame to yourself

Sang to the tune of,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

@5150sick made a really good point in another thread, that not only do they do that, but they fail to mention why batteries should be kept in cases, etc.
Well, how are they supposed to keep a better informed populace scared and watching/reading? Knowledge is the antidote for fear. There's nothing to fear when you know what you're dealing with.

I was wondering in most of these cases, why are most of the batteries exploding over venting? I've seen venting vids too and that looked like a firework in his pocket

Because they are always cheap batteries....Ive hard shorted 25R's and LGs and they havent even vented...just got really hot and melted parts of the RDA/Mod...There were some burning scars on the Battery case but nothing happened.

If this is the incident I saw on NBC Nightly News, last night: They clearly noted, in that broadcast, that it was an "E-Cigarette battery." They also interviewed a vape store employee/owner who talked about how you should never carry batteries without having them in a case, and clearly demonstrated same.

All-in-all: Other than failing to shame the clueless idiot who gave himself 2nd degree burns, for being a clueless idiot, they did a decent job covering the story. Much better than I've come to expect from the "news."
