Good advice. I also like coconut water for excellent hydration, plus keeping my electrolytes balanced.

All that being said I don't think riptripper did anything wrong.....and I'm getting a little sick of a bunch of newbie fucks piling on top of him because they think it's the "hip" thing to do.

I don't vape like he does..I don't use the kinds of gear he uses... I can't watch him for more than 3 minutes without driving an icepick in my ear...,but he has done more to promote and legitamize vaping than almost anyone I know of..to assume he is attacking vaping is stupid....I think he believes in everything he says...until he doesn't ....which takes about 3 days......

I don't even watch his vids, and think he is a twat.

But it seems ANYTHING people can create DRAMA about, they do. Seems to me the jealousy of some people rears it's ugly head.

And anyone who's never experienced electrolyte imbalance may find it quite amusing... but I assure you, leg cramps from HELL that wake you out of a sound sleep, and ankles that turn into cankles while your feet are so sore and lumpy you can barely walk, are not amusing in the slightest. Neither is a heart attack, which is another thing an electrolyte imbalance can bring on.

Could be I guess, though those are symptoms of so many different things (cold, flu, to name just a couple!), it's hard to know unless more symptoms show up. Headache too -- can be a sign of dehydration, which is what usually causes electrolyte imbalance -- though over-hydration can cause it too, making you piss out all the electrolytes with over-urination.

For me, it's usually leg cramps... painful, awful cramps from my toes to my thighs. But when I undress for bed at night, I check out my ankles carefully -- the swollen ankles and painful feet are the first bad side effect I got from vaping, which was pushing my chronic dehydration into the red zone. I had to eliminate 80% of my caffeine intake and add daily coconut water to fix the problem, but it took me a long time to arrive at that cure.

And as noted.. drinking too much water can be as bad as not enough, if not even worse -- if you pee too much, there go the electrolytes, down the toilet.

This is why it was hard for me to figure out what was up, with my cankles and sore feet -- people kept yammering about drinking water, water, water... and my urine was almost completelty CLEAR -- clearly I wasn't dehydrated at all, with urine that clear. That's why I had to eliminate most of the caffeine, and add the coconut water, and it's an ongoing struggle -- every few weeks, I get to do the screaming-cursing-stomping leg cramp dance again for a day or two, till I can get enough coconut water into me to fix those damned electrolytes.

I know that some of you seem to find the word "electrolytes" hysterically funny, but there isn't one damned thing funny about those cramps, ESPECIALLY when they wake you from a sound sleep.

I get them anywhere from my toes to my inner thighs, and sometimes in my abdomen if I bend too far forward, sometimes in my hands if I hold something a certain way for too long... The other night, I got awakened by a godawful one in my toes, cramping forward... when I grabbed my foot to try and bend them back, suddenly my inner thigh got into the action too, and I had to nearly LEVITATE out of the damn bed, screaming like a scalded cat. Drank a glass of coconut water, went back to bed... hour later, cramp in the innermost part of the knee, though I swear to god I can't figure out what's cramping inside my freaking knee. Another glass of coconut water, back to bed... hour later, the other leg... I was so pissed I finally just stayed up. It's infuriating, for my body to be doing this stuff which I HAVE NOT AUTHORIZED and hurts like bleeding hell!!!

If I am honest- I drink a lot of tea, if not tea, water.

I also enjoy protein shakes-I like the flavour of them.
I quite enjoy cocunut water though, so I may get some of this as something different to drink.

@AndriaD, I have had cramp a few times in the past year-I realise this coincides with my full time vaping, although this could be coincidental.
I wonder if that is to do with electrolyte balance, or just one of those things? It only ever happens at night, but bloomin kills, I get it in the back of my leg in the calf, it wakes me up and I have to jump out of bed, and slowly stand on the leg, easing weight onto it, and lean forward-hold this position for a while, and then it goes.

It is really annoying though, and sometimes the next day I have a bit of a limp from where it tensed up so much. I actually have a bar of soap at the end of my bed-I know it is an old wives tale, but it is not hurting anyone, and I thought if it was psychological causes then it may help :).

Well, some people say that vaping "causes dehydration".... I'm not at all sure that it can cause it, if it hasn't existed already, but it can definitely make existing dehydration a lot worse. Also, there is all this continual blather about drink water, water, water... but as noted, over-hydration is just as bad for the electrolyte balance as dehydration is. If the tea you're drinking is regular caffeinated tea, then there's the culprit -- caffeine is a diuretic; it stimulates the kidneys and bladder and makes you pee -- so you drink more, pee more, drink more, pee more... etc etc etc... This is one reason why I never drink sports drinks -- they're loaded with sodium, which actually contributes to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, since many if not most modern people have a modern sodium-rich diet -- more sodium isn't needed at all, unless you're exercising a lot and sweating your ass off.

Tea was the culprit for me, too -- 10+ cups of black tea daily -- when I smoked, it wasn't a *huge* problem, though I did get the leg cramps periodically, just not the cankles and sore lumpy feet. But when I was ill following my appendectomy, tea tasted very bitter to me, so I didn't drink it, and I was much too ill to vape, either -- and the problem completely vanished. Once I was on my feet again, I started drinking a little tea, in the morning... started vaping again... and the problem returned. I remembered someone recommending coconut water at one point, and I was about ready to try anything, so I got some.... the problem began to recede almost right away, and within a week of daily coconut water, no more cankles or sore lumpy feet. But once I was again drinking black tea all thru the day, it started coming back. At that point, I understood that it was the caffeine that was really the big bad guy; I started keeping my regular black tea to 2-3 cups in the morning, and decaf tea the rest of the day, and continue the daily coconut water -- a big glass at breakfast, a smaller glass at night, but if I've been having the cramps at night, I make that night time glass a big one, and I also drink a glass of it anytime I get awakened with those damned cramps.

Sweet jesus!! 10+ cups of actual tea is dangerous as hell for your kidneys.
Swelling and pain are a good indication your kidneys are having an issue filtering the byproducts out of your system.

You can drink enough tea to put you into total renal failure.

Never had the swelling and pain till I added vaping to the mix, so vaping definitely contributes to any existing problem.

Coconut water tastes nasty to me. Maybe it was the brand but damn.

You're right, by itself it's kinda icky. I get Zico's chocolate flavor, and add just a tiny bit of chocolate milk to it, to make just a smidge sweeter. Before I started getting the chocolate, with the unflavored I always mixed in some pineapple juice. I thought it might taste a little like pina colada, but the pineapple juice flavor really overwhelms the mild coconut taste, so it's just pineapple flavored.

I used to get cramps all the time even before vaping in my, legs, feet, rib cage, etc. Being a diabetic I can't eat a lot of fruit and I drink at least a gallon of water a day. Even though my potassium was in the normal range my Dr. recommended taking over the counter potassium (595mg) once a day. That was several years ago and I've rarely had a cramp since.

I used to be the same way, but then I found harmless harvest. It's as close as you come to raw coconut water. They use heat press pasturazation.

I found it the first time at whole foods now it seems like every store has it here in NYC.

Don't be worried about the pinkish color that's normal since coconut water has so much natural antioxidants.

On the topic of the OP, "eating water"... I've found that canteloupe is a great thing, when they're in season in the summer; lots of water in it of course, and it's quite high in potassium.

You're all gonna hate me, but I do the gatorade - water - hydrating foods routine. I feel great. Most people I know can't stand gatorade, but I've acquired a taste for it. I go with the low-cal ones.
When I'm just sitting working I drink a metric shit ton of water. I go through an easy 9 16 oz bottles a day.

Sports drinks don't help me at all; they're loaded with sodium, and contain very little potassium. They don't really quench the body's thirst unless that body is exercising and sweating a lot -- because they want you to buy more, so why would they want to quench your body's thirst? Might as well drink coke or pepsi, for all the good that sports drinks do the body.

And 144 oz of water daily is the very definition of over-hydration, so bye-bye electrolytes.

What works for me doesn't have to work for everyone. If I don't drink 9 bottles, I feel like I'm gonna die.
Oh crap. I should add - I live in the heat and work outside a lot. Sorry. Drowsy today.

So it sounds like you do manage to sweat a lot... so that regime might work out very well for you. It's hot in GA in the summertime, but thx to vaping, I don't have to go outside much anymore. :D But that amount of water is still more than TWICE what is recommended (64oz). Seems like you'd have to be pouring sweat like a gushing fountain, to need that much. But maybe it helps to offset all that sodium in the gatorade.

I naturally perspire a little more than average (read: a lot more than average). You can go ahead and put stock into deodorant.

The gatorade helps as a one per day thing. Probably not the best option but if it's available and you're out of bananas, it's better than losing electrolytes. :)

The best way is to drink water... I cant imagine talking about hydrating oneself and not saying well you know the body is mostly water.. In some ways this is kinda insane... If you did not vape you need to drink water if you do vape you need to drink water

But if you drink too much water, you lose electrolytes, so just drinking water is not always the answer -- the body is made up of a lot more than just water.

OK, I should add, we drink a lot of tea. Like, I know everyone goes on about English people and tea, but most people over here might have a cup or two a day-it is my main drink if I am honest, and I drink a lot of it.

I think it may be a good idea like @AndriaD replied to me, to cut back on the tea, due to the caffeine plus the diuretic effect.

Plus, @BigNasty , that made me worry-I do have organ damage due to past demons, that no longer exist fortunately, but I am drinking enough tea daily that I am a bit worried now. I think I will definitely cut back on the tea, just for purely my health's sake.

I would really hate to of beaten my previous addiction to die from tea lol.

I still drink a pretty fair amount, but at least half of it is now decaf -- but I also drink 12-16oz daily of coconut water, and anytime I need to take a pill (every morning and at night before bed, and usually once-twice more daily), I also chug a good bit of water, so I'm giving my kidneys a lot more than just tea. One other thing I did, to help that edema problem, was that I stopped using "regular" salt -- we already buy the "Lite Salt" stuff because of my husband's hypertension, so I started using that too; it's 50% regular salt, 50% potassium chloride.

At this point in my life (post-menopause), I'm starting to suspect that part of my leg cramp problem might be calcium -- it's also an electrolyte which the body needs desperately for proper cell metabolism; I have extremely dense bones, so that probably helps me avoid osteoporosis, but it probably also means that my body has a hard time thieving it from my bones when more is needed.

Ummm yeah true but the premise is the same in the past mankind has not had the luxury of drinking Gatorade or Coconut water or any oddball way of marketing things that do anything more than hydrate a person.

Mankind also didn't vape in the past, or eat an extremely high-sodium diet. and coconut water has been around since coconuts.

Didn't a lot of people back in the day drink an abundance of alcohol and the ones that didn't drank milk form their animals. Because they really didn't have a good way to filter the water and purify it. Unless the had dug wells. Due to how water made em sick from streams and rivers.

And all that milk-drinking is why so many died of TB, back before they understood microbe theory, and milk was pasteurized by law.

True. I grew up on a farm. Had dairy cows and drank lots fresh milk. Meaning unpasteurized. It is safe as long as you know where the milk is coming from. In fact it is better for you. But i would not drink any that I did not know where it came from. That's where you can get sick and why pasteurization was invented. Not sure about the TB but ecoli and salmonella was rampant.
