Hello Everyone, I am new to the forums having been gifted the SMOK AL85 by my wife yesterday and I smoked between a half-pack to almost a pack of Marlboro Reds and regular Camels for a couple decades easily. The salesperson at the vape shop REALLY discouraged me from going any higher than 12mg Nicotine in my e-juice selections and stated that the mod will kinda enhance the nicotine due to atomizing it really well (or something like that) and I should really try 12mg first, if I wasn't happy or felt it was not enough nicotine to come back and she would adjust it.
Well, I haven't had a cig since we got home yesterday afternoon and I feel fantastic really. The baby alien mod is wonderful and best of all, the 12mg Nicotine she suggested really works great! No heavy duty cravings, no sensation of wanting to light up either. I recommend 12mg to anyone trying to quit who smoked Reds or Camels, it really is satisfying.
The real test for me was this morning when I had my first cup of coffee..... No problems at all, i'm a Vaper true believer!
Congrats on your success. I'm new here as well and put the cigs down 3 weeks ago when I picked up a mod and haven't smoked since. I tried 6mg for a day and it wasn't enough so went to 12 and it's working for me. Smoked 1 1/2 packs for decades.
The lovely lady at my local vape shop suggested a 3 for me when I came in to get started. Plenty strong for me!
I did 24mg for about 24 hrs when I first started, bought some zero to cut it in half because i already had the juice. 12mg was mine for about the first three months. Nautilus tank at about 10 watts. I got bit by the vape bug not long after and got a subohm tank and I couldn't hang with the 12mg anymore. Now I DIY and mix mine at 4mg. Been off the fags for almost 2 years now.
I just quit smoking and started vaping again 10 days ago, 12mg in a baby beast at the moment, I plan to cut down soon but for now a big rip at 50 watts when I get stressed really takes the edge off lol. With a higher vg juice it's not too harsh for me just enough really. I feel if I it was any lower I would never sit it down.
I was rolling my own cigs for 80 cents a pack so ended up smoking 1.5-2 packs a day.
Nothing wrong with that. I made my own cigarettes too and smoked 40-50 cigarettes a day. I've been off cigarettes since October 2015 and I still vape 16-18 mg. Anything lower than that, I never put down the mod. I suspect I'll be cutting down drastically on the nic soon though because I've got a new dripper and as soon as my tools get here I'll throw a couple of Raymo2u's aliens in there and fire it up.
Ya same with me I go lower than 9nic I seem to coddle my regular vape. I'm beginning to make 6 juice for my low ohm SS clapton builds, after a few good hits I am getting a small pin point headache between the eyes and thats a tell tale sign to me that 9 is too much nic for those kind of builds. These are subtank mini and Merlin attys I use. The couple drippers I have are old school and without modification to the airflow they just can't keep up with today's nasty builds. One day I'll put out for another better dripper but I just don't use them cause I get a mighty fine vape out of the attys I have.
I came across a shop in Albuquerque (Oasis Vape) this past weekend that will mix 36mg if that's what you want. I vape 18-20mg and subohm (currently vaping 20mg mix on 0.46 coil @36watts). But, I'm an odd duck
Been dripping a lot lately instead of the tank, 10 mg at work so I can take one big blast to get my nic, sit it down and get back to work.
3-6 mg at home.
I've been vaping 18mg for a while now @ 25 watts on a .84 coil but when I tried it in my dripper, I 'bout choked. I had to mix up some 6 mg in a hurry and that's still a little strong.
I always loved the view from the mountaintop coming back east on I-40 into Albuquerque at night.
I think I've seen a few 18s on the shelves at my local Vapor World. I could be wrong tho.
If 18mg juice is what it takes to keep you from smoking cigarettes, so be it. Whatever it takes.
If you're replying to me, I only use 0nic juices. I mainly use my vape to chill with fellow vapers, experiment with making my own coils/juice/wire and learn how to make a coil that delivers better flavor because the normal tank atomizers just don't deliver enough flavor for me, plus the big clouds are a bonus. (God I'm easily entertained.)
I vape 12mg sub-Ohm quite a bit. Doesn't seem to bother me at all. Then again, I don't vape to make huge clouds, nor do I chain.
I don't mean this is a derogatory way, but what is the point of vaping zero nicotine liquid?
I finally made it down to 12mg myself in my tank. For my rda, I use 6mg but I hit both of them pretty hard most of the time.
I never figured this out either. My daughter used to smoke and quit for over a year. She recently started vaping 0 nic juice because she has some friends that vape 0 nic. I guess she just likes the taste. Hell the only reason I vape is for the nicotene. As far as taste, I much prefer the taste of a cigarette, but after 2 strokes I decided to do whatever it takes to stay off 'em.
I've been quit almost 2 years now...so far, so good.
I suppose a lot of young people are vaping because think it's cool. Once the novelty wears off, they will move onto something else. There is currently a "vaping is for douche-bags" movement going on within the Millennial community, which may help douche the douches.
Yeah, when I started back in the 60s, smoking cigarettes was cool. Now, just being able to breathe without coughing my head off is awesome!
They can call me a "douche-bag". I have no forseeable plans to quit vaping.
I couldn't make huge clouds if I wanted, thanks to my low lung capacity due to all of that smoking through the years. I'll sometimes chain vape, but more importantly I usually need to be able to take a few quick puffs to tide me over and go back to work.
Here's a disposable e-cig company that sells up to 54mg/ml, which is 5.4% nicotine: http://www.whitecloudelectroniccigarettes.com/how-it-works/ecig-strengths/. They call that "double extra" strength. Their old disposables were pretty wimpy on the vapor delivery, but they made up for it with their nic levels. I used their 36mg/ml then & DIYed at the same strength when cartomizers were standard fare. But now that company sells juice to use in your own device - at those same strengths . At least they include this warning: "For open tank systems, choose a nicotine level of 1.6% or lower for a smooth vape." That's still 16mg/ml, which used to be the lowest strength they sold.
My best guess, is that zero nicotine content is the result of kids who like to blow huge clouds. Low nicotine (3mg to 6mg) is the result of sub-Ohm users who are worried they will absorb too much nicotine. I don't think people are absorbing as much nicotine as they think, but I may be wrong about that. If you're not absorbing enough nicotine, you're not going to reap its benefits.
I'm getting ready to DIY my own liquids. I purchased 48mg and 100mg PG base liquids from Caroliniaextract and Nic River. I'm not making it to sell, so it won't need to be exact. 10mg to 12mg, whatever it comes out to.
I totally agree with you for the most part. 0mg juice is, from what I've seen mainly for people who have never used tobacco and either want to "chuck sick cloudz, bro" or a few like my daughter who just likes to taste different flavors. One of our good friends (who actually caused me to buy my first vape pen and quit smoking), bought her first one and vaped only 0mg for about a month and was able to quit smoking and even vaping after that. I wanted to quit smoking but I have no intention to quit vaping.
As far as low nic, I know from personal experience that when you're used to low-watt vaping (18-20 watts) and put 16mg juice in a dual coil rda with a big goon style chuff tip at 45 watts, you won't take too many hits before you have to put it down!
I mix my own juice as well for my own use and I don't try to be super exact with it either. As long as it's within a mg of what I'm looking for, I never notice.
Exactly! I have my Provari Ti fixed with a Serpent Mini w/16mg RY4 set to 19 watts... If I take two or three pulls off of it, I'm done for the next 1/2 hour. My VT Inbox is fixed with a Split R w/dual coils running sub-Ohm using 6mg Milkman liquid, and I can hit it non-stop. I'm actually going to put a few drops of 48mg PG base in, just to give it a bit more kick. I don't want to go through an ass-load of liquid, in a vain attempt at getting my nic fix.
Exactly! I've got a bottle mixed up that I labeled "Drs office". It's about 45 VG and 55 PG with about 17 to 18 mg nic. I can sit in the waiting room, or even right in the doc's office and vape. Unless somebody looks right at me, they never know I'm doing anything.
Of course, I don't chain vape, but that's the reason for the high nic.
I would like to have a liquid that emits no visible vapor. Just give me the flavor and my nic-o-fix, and I'd be good to go.
Sorry if this isn't the correct place; not sure where to ask...
Other than a heavy throat hit, how do you know when you're using too much nic?
I've heard the term 'nic-sick' used, but what exactly are the symptoms? Headache, racing heartbeat, dizziness,.. literally sick?
I'm still using 18 ~ 24 mg because most of my tanks and mods are 1.2 to 1.6 ohms.
Go through 15 ~ 20 mg of eliquid a day.
I have a few mods that'll handle the sub-ohm stuff (Sigelei 150W APV and a couple Kanger sub-boxes). Simply never tried; I'm too used to my (8 or 10) Nautilus tanks & 1.6 ohm coils (I do not rebuild).
I have unopened packs of .25 - .60 coils that've been laying around for years. Simply never been tempted to try sub-ohming.
I've always been happy at 1.2 to 1.8 ohms @ 12 ~ 20 watts. But I have been thinking about 'going under' recently.
ETA: I am NOT interested in giant clouds. Just the opposite. Because of family circumstances, LESS is better in my situation.
I usually see the opposite, shops sending heavy smokers who smoked MTL out the door with 3 mg and 6 mg subohm high power tanks for DL and they suck the life out of them to get a nic fix that with a lower power tighter draw MTL tank at 18 to 24 mg tank they would have made an easier transition to vaping.
Thank you! I've been saying this all the time but it's like nobody wants to hear it. Every time somebody new comes in and makes a "what do I need to start vaping and quit smoking" post, you'll have a dozen people recommending 220 aliens with the TFV8 Cloud Beast tank or an rda with dual coils and wide open air flow.
Myself, and a couple of my friends quit smoking using a simple "Buck Naked" brand pen from the tobacco shop and 18mg juice. About a year later I moved to a little better setup with .75 ohm coils and finally to a 171 watt mod with a dripper. If I had bought my current setup first, there's no way I would have quit smoking. I would have said "screw this" and went back to cigarettes.
People who are looking at vaping as a means to quit smoking as a rule aren't looking to constantly be futching with their vape. They just want to press the button and get a lung full of something a lot less harmful than cigarette smoke.
In my opinion!
Exactly, they want to quit smoking. Sure way to help them fail is to start off with some of the recommendations I see here, I sure would have failed with them, I wasn't looking for a coil building hobby or 3 battery mods for 120W of clouds I just wanted a vape similar to how I smoked.
OK, I am new at vaping... I have an Alien with an Arctic V12 tank. My juices are all 16 & 18mg... After reading this I'm wondering if my sub ohm setup can't handle it. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Side note; I'm on a limited budget and I'm horrible with anything mechanical, so the more simplistic, the better!)
Subohm? As a general rule nope. Now I do know of someone who was a 2+ pack a day smoker who subohmed 18mg but he was the exception. You generally would 1/2 that. You can dilute it down, get the same flavor in 0mg and mix them or maybe 3mg and mix but I do not recommend subohming 16 or 18mg.
Yeah, I'd be pulling out my hair if I diluted it so I'll have to figure what I can afford that will handle the higher nic levels. Le sigh.
It's simple, just pour equal amounts in a bottle and shake.
Your equipment can handle it fine, if your lungs and tastebuds can handle it.
I started with 24 mg in a sub tank and moved down slowly I'm at 12 now so it is possible

I just keep hearing it's trashing my flavor experience and that I'd be better suited to an above ohm tank. But what do I know? Lol
I am by no means an expert lol this is just my experience. But with any tank the higher the nic the flavor will be so so. The nic drops the flavor will hit harder taste better in general
Now, you know someone who was a thirty five year smoker of about half a pack a day that uses 18 mg nicotine, in max VG. He vapes around 2 to 4 mls per day. Hiya, howya doin? This morning I built a triple core fused Clapton all SS316, the cores were 26 awg, the wrap was 30 awg. Five wraps around 3 mm ID and it kicks at around 0.33 Ω +/- 0.02. I usually like sticking to around 0.50 Ω, lately though been becoming proficent in building Claptons and such by hand and getting the zone around 0.30 down well. So, yep reckon I can say I sub-Ω as well at 18mg/ml nicotine. *chuckles*
Uh huh, I know. I'm a total special case. *LOL* Still trying to figure out exactly what I'm a case of though.
You might find that you can vape what some have dubbed "base" juice. Base juice is simply your mixture of PG/VG with your Nicotine added in at the level you desire. I am vaping a maxium VG base juice at 18mg/ml Nicotine. Granted there are no flavorings in my juice. I still get a taste of mild and subtle sweetness due to the VG having that inherient in itself. Veggie Glycerin is well, a sugar out of vegetables or other plant based items. It's a sugar that is actually converted to an alchol though. This is why I seem constantly thirsty, because I know to keep hydrated. Vaping tends to dry a person out a bit.
Now, don't take my words as absolute truth nor as me saying "you must do it this way". We all seem to find what works to suit ourselves. That way, the way that suits you, is your "right way". Your right way might not be my right way and mine isn't @DogMan 's right way, or even @r055co 's right way. Don't fret over there not being a one and done right way, such a thing just doesn't happen. Consequently, if someone tells you otherwise, you got my permission to blow a raspberry at them and say "Fuck the Bozos!" The main thing with vaping is it's helped saved lives of smokers and it's enjoyable a bit as a hobby. Have fun, try different things, go at your own pace.
I bet you know a lot more than you'd tell of knowing. Excuse me, need to ensure my wife's house is clean and get more coffee. Wait, it's a Tuesday ... hmmm ... Wasslin!!! Yay!!! Bah, I'll just dust and clean my sink. Really don't need much else, maybe sweep the galley deck. *ambles on in discussion with himself about where he left the duster *
Nothing (sorry ).
What's usually missing from the "well, I can vape xyz" posts is... amount consumed.
You like 0.3 to 0.5... me too.
You like 18mg, I use 6mg.
You vape ~ 2-4 ml/day... I go through ~10-12.
It's damn near the same nic consumption, except I hit my mods far more frequently, and possibly go through more mAhs a day (~7500).
Oh and... not being used to it any more (I have RDA'd 24mg)... your setup would probably take the top of my head off.
And that's why most recommend against subbing 18mg or whatever.
Once one gets set up and settled in... nic consumption is amazingly self-regulating.
Too much? Set it down for a spell.
Feel the need for more? Hit it a couple times.
Want to retain a parking spot for your hat? Don't drip the hard stuff.
I use a CopperVape mech and the coil I built is in a Gorge deck (RDA/atty). Used to use dual coils in a Velocity style clone. Have been finding a single coil does as well if not better. Get a good balance trade off wise, fair cloud but not a chaser, fair flavor but not a freak to that either.
Using more juice daily with an RDA than I did using clear-o-mizers (tanks). The only tank type which I used more juice in was a Smok (genny type) RSA. I did and didn't like that one. Used to use regulated mods as well. Had a bud suggest squonking. A lot of that has a tendency toward the mechs and with good reason imho, the K.I.S.S principle for one. Head knocking gear for another *chuckles & grins*
But yes, for me it's pretty straight forward self-regulating. Seems I'm kind of a moderate type in everything gotten into, vaping included.
Well, need to scoot and do some research for something along regards of lumber proccessing for my FIL. Figure he'll be falling back on me seeing how he can't lean on his other SIL too well. Bah, if it's not one iron in the forge it's twenty four. Run 'er slow.
I'm still smoking because vendor gave me 18 mg- I thought ecigs were too harsh for me.
Lowered it and started my new vaping life tomorrow
Welcome @rainydaze777 and good luck on becoming a former smoker.
By the way 18MG isn't too much for some people as I know a few members who vape 48MG in a Sub Ohm Device. To each is own. I vape 3MG sub Ohm or above Ohm and chain vape no matter what I am holding~! Cheers
Thanks so much- I joined this site for support.
I've found online forums to be amazing for help in the past with other things
You are most welcome my friend~! Feel free to ask anything you like, the worst is I can say I have no freaking idea~!
Also if you try out your 18 mg juice go with low watt. For me i was at 18 to 24 for a wile i used 30w 40w. Now im between 9 and 12 nic level but i also vape at 72w so there is a whole lot that plays into effect when i use an rda im super comfy with 9 nic juice in a tank i want 12. Alot of places dont make 9 so i buy 6 and have them add nic to it. All i know for a fact is im smoke free and how i got there isn't the same as how anyone els did. But who cares the fact is im smoke free

I use a mechanical mod most of the time. What I understand of it is that it'll produce around 50 watts on a standard 3.7 volt battery, at most. Usually, I'm running coils that range from 0.30 Ω to 0.70 Ω resistance.
Figured out something yesterday regarding double coils. Got a suitable 0.25 Ω build going n one Velocity clone deck. It was a bit of a surprise to me in being able to vape that low without being so hot. I'm still going to mainly hold to 0.30 - 0.70 Ω as the 0.25 Ω requires a lot of battery charge. Having to continually recharge strains batteries, not really something recommended.
Yep, there you go and no matter where you go there you are. The only right way is the way that is right for you and only you can say it's your right way. Conversely though just as a friendly reminder, Truth is indeed truth despite what is currently being said by some former mayor of New York city New York. *sighs* Sometimes I think I hitched a ride with @The Cromwell when he came to Earth.
