Alien coils not firing sometimes?

I have a pair of medium dragon scale aliens from GM coils and they're still in great condition, used less than a month. I periodically made sure the grub screws were tight and for some reason these coils wouldn't fire sometimes, but would others. I know it's not my mod because other coils work fine. Any reason these might be doing this? $20 coils dead? lol

Does it fire ok with the cap off? If so you might be shorting to the cap but it will move slightly to where it works sometimes and others it shorts.

I tried that, as I always break them in at low wattage by pulsing with the cap off so I know it's not shorting off the cap. I can't see any break or anything in the coils either..
