Is there any major differences between brands? If so, what mass produced or non-custom one do you think is best and why?

Of course there are differences in the quality of the mod. The pins, battery tray, finish, etc. differ from mod to mod. The best DNA 250 I had was the Broscience 3S lipo. But Madmodder, Hobo and Flawless make nice DNa250s.

I've never owned a Chinese mass produced DNA250. I used to swear by Lost Vape but recently I've not been impressed.

Does anyone have experience with the custom mod bought directly from Evolv?

    https://www.evolvapor.com/products/custom

Since Evolv guarantees its parts for a year but other vendors' parts for only 90 days, a full year warranty on the entire mod rather than just Evolv circuitry would be implied. Also, a warranty claim would seem to go directly to Evolv bypassing 3rd parties.

I'd still like to know how the linked mod functions differently than other DNA 250 based mods built by other companies.

Mind you, I've not bought one direct. I understand that those mods are to make a reference and aren't ready to take off the shelf and ship.
Having said that, I'd think they would be the best example of a DNA mod you could get. If you can actually get one.
Give Evolv a call and see before placing an order.
Then, let us know for certain.

I like the Duo from them but don’t like the plastic on the Triade and Theroin.... they look great new but paint/finish comes off over time and they show their age.
I’m waiting for the DNA250C and hoping for triple 18650/20700 worth a dam. Kind of wish someone would come out with a 3D printed mod with better guts and have owners that had their customers back.

Finding the Rebel state side is hard/impossible and I have read horror stories about the owners of Boxer. I also don’t like the fact the Boxer is white dyed material for the color I want (Orange)..... not sure on the Rebel. Not to mention the battery holders in both units could be much higher quality especially for the price.
I’m holding out till the DNA250C. The video posted in a thread below has the Evolv guys saying the chip will be out before the end of the year. Then I’m hoping to find a Rebel in Orange stateside..... they are easier to find if I happen to drop it in the woods while hunting ;)
I could go on with more detail but I hate typing on the phone :)

From my opinion Lost Vape therion & Paranormal are the best DNA mod as of now.
Nice looking, build quality and good 510 pin..

What about you guys what do you think about Paranormal 166?

My favs are the Lost Vape Drone and the Hcigar VT250. Both are well made, dependable, solid, and work perfectly. I also like that both have a centered 510 socket and take a very large atomizer without looking weird.

They ain't cheap though. But if you're more interested in a good vape than in gimmicks, wait some more until the color DNA deprecates them for good, and you should be able to score them on the cheap.

Therion is good till you use it for a year (black) then the paint/finish starts to look like heck with all the nicks. My dream mod would be a Triad or Therion in 3d print of a solid color with the same internals at the same price point. It would be lighter dependable and if it gets a scratch who cares its the same color all the way through.

My favorites are the vaporshark 250 for small and portable at lower wattage <70w (because of runtime) the triade for higher power and run time or the therion 166 for something in the middle.

Unfortunately brand etc makes a huge difference. But for me the two main things to look for are Form Factor and Strength.

I own a lot of DNA devices and my favorites are still my Vaporsharks (200s and 250s) because they are so small and bullet proof. But you truly need to run own 2, because of their battery life. I also have a Lost Vape Triade 250 which was great until the cheap plastic used to support the underside of the 510 cracked and eventually lead to it's death.

Of all of the DNA 250s that I've owned those are the only two that ever became all day carries. If you don't mind ergonomics then others will work. But a lot of the box styles are awkward to lug around and uncomfortable to use. That goes for a lot of the other 3 battery layouts as well. All 250s have the same screen and chip so the rest is just preference. (Buttons, 510s, battery sleds etc)

I'm waiting for the 250c to come out as well. But deals on the 250s will be the best in the next couple months so it's a great time to pick one up.

Update about the new 250c were just posted (link to vid below)

I'm definitely waiting for the new chip. It's just got so much going for it. Even though I will never need it 400w capable is pretty cool, Replay(!) and everything that I love about the 75c? Definitely worth waiting for, at least for me.

I really like how Evolv is practically winking when they say that some of the features won't be available for the US market. Give me an easy work-around for something that wasn't their fault to begin with and I'm happy to continue supporting them, after all, they continue to support me right back. I'm going to dl international fw tonight. Looking forward to a quick boost in power and I got 4 brand new vtc5a'in the mail today. :)

I completely agree. I'll never use the 400w and probably won't ever even have the capability (because I'll never buy a (4) battery mod). But some Mod I buy could just happen to come with a 4s LiPo so who knows. Regardless it is nice to have the option if the need arises.

Yeah that was funny about the features thing. It's not like they are going to lock the chip down (to prevent non US FW from being installed). So that international fw upgrade will be a day 1 change for 99% of us.

The VTC 5As are great. I bought a set of 3 of them (along with sets of 30Qs, HG2s and VCT6s) a few months back to test them out. I previously just ran 25Rs in my Regulated mods and 20Rs/VCT4s in Mechs.

Anyway, the 5As ended up being the best (for my use) and I was just about to re-up. But with the 6As shipping out soon I decided to wait. Seems like it's a lot of hurry up and waiting lately

I have found that the Chinese mods are all pure junk with DNA. Lost Vape being the worst quality. I had 8 of them. Longest lasting was 3 Months, Shortest was DOA. Good luck getting any store to replace it. Since they eat it then. I think the issue is the price of the board. If the Mod sells for $110-$130 discounted You paid less than $25 for the entire mod. Which further means in China it cost USD 25 cents to produce in quantity. Plus they let many duds out the back door. China industry is full of corruption too. No secret there. I think herein lies the fault. So If you do not want to spend much more in the long run or just give up, Custom is the only answer IMO. Any reputable Custom is fine. You will pay $500 and up but it will actually be cheaper when your mod lasts more than a week. I was going to RMA a dead Paranormal but taking out the batteries the door ripped off. So now no warranty on that one. The hinge is garbage.

Two other options. At the low end I find VooPoo actually performs better than the DNA but it is junk in many other ways. I am currently vaping what I think is the best mod period as we speak. It is from Vicious Ant but first it is a SX550J and second it is $1,000USD. He is a legend and if he thinks the YiHi is better......

The DNA is only the best if you will take time with Escribe. Otherwise I would not buy one at all. Any Custom 250 will be a Lipo as it should be. These Chinese battery carriers are horrible. A 166 may have Primaries of some sort but getting away from 18650 in a lot of cases.

Up to you and I have plenty of experience with them. I learned for your benefit. You can spend as you go(quickly) or you can get a good Custom first. Lost Vape is the China you are likely to find and besides the paint parts for it required to function may quickly break. Or it will just suddenly die. No retailer is going to take it back. You will wait 3-5 Months to have it repaired and break again. Just the cheapest junk. It seems others concur.

I would not get the 250C or anything else brand new until I see if people have any problems or reviews. Plus Custom modders will be even further away with it for several reasons.

Call me a hater but trust me I am only trying to help folks.

    1. When manufacturers buy chips in bulk they don't pay those prices.
    2. You can't use the cost of a mod at the end of it's life cycle, when it is being clearanced out, as a comparison for anything.
    3. Custom has no correlation with quality.
    4. 8 of them? Come on

    Humblebragging is gross

    1. Why would you not learn Escribe if you're getting a DNA?
    2. Lipo is great for some people, but not practical for others.

Mods rarely break from normal use. It's the dropping, juice leaking, etc... shit that we do to them that breaks them.

    Thanks

I posted this a couple other places but I figured you'd all like to know too

I'm not sure if you all saw the new interview with the Vaping Biker and Brandon (same owner that was in DJLSB's video about the 250c) it is much better and more comprehensive. He goes into a lot of the questions we all had.

    Replay starts around - 15:00
Replay vs Temp control - 16:45
    Wires that work - 21:00
    75c - 36:30

Okay I give you all, YMMV!!!! If you guy's had a good experience hey I am all for that. Just relating mine. No reason to hate. I seriously had no less than 8 LV break. I did forget something though and you guy's might redeem me. The FinDer may very well be the one that is good. I will buy 20 ThinkVape to 1 LostVape. It is not a custom, but still probably the best Chinese option IMO. If you want the 167 you can only get it from China now? However Fastech and such are fine with me. I just try to tell "my" truth. I had many good Chinese tanks, rba's etc. I also had many good Chinese mods. Like RX 2/3 etc. Of course they do not perform like a DNA. I did not mean anything from Evolv will break! I meant other parts of the Mod. You can get a FinDer 250 in USA, CA. Either way I would humbly suggest to get the FinDer than LV. If yours work I certainly have no problem with that.

Now, you can hate on this too but just wait before you eat your words. DNA250 Color if they release it is a 3 cell DNA75. Different chip than 250. Depends if you want a cool color screen. Or way better Efficiency, Higher Voltage etc. I know something, so before you talk smack wait for the product. If it even arrives. Due to the limitations it may not.

I understand you can't afford a Custom, should just say so. Like Color screen=Poser. For the record I currently have over 60 Custom Mods. Only way I roll. That is not Humble bragging! quite the contrary! Choose your own adventure! You want to Vape or look cool, or put your thumb in your Ass because your Damn Mod is broken and you could only afford one DNA? Just trying to be helpful here.

It is funny as well that Brandon explains how "smart" DNA users tend to be. Especially since Replay is obviously for people that do not know how to dial in a consistent vape with Escribe. It is certainly not a feature I would be using. Furthermore I am not against the color screen but all this is a glorified DNA75C from the specs. It is not 250W either. 2 cell, 200W, 3 cell, 300W, 4 cell, 400W which is unlikely to be seen anytime soon....but knowing the Chinese. That is hardly usable and will be huge if it comes to fruition. The issue is, depending on your coil it may not have enough voltage to reach 200W, let alone 400W. Plus with buck-boost on there you will not enjoy efficiency even close to the DNA250. It will use larger cells which will overcome this at the expense of size. It is still no new product, they just have unlocked the capability of the DNA75. Which means Escribe does not let the user do "everything" as Branden states. Personally I am sticking with the DNA167 for now. In that case as I mentioned the FinDer may be pretty good. It has worked for me longer than others but I rarely use it. I am weary of these mods with bottom battery latches. Tend to break.

You few are welcome to hate me but have your fun. I only have stated my personal experiences. YMMV.

No problem man. My apologies. I thought you and obsidian were trying to insult me. I guess I got the wrong idea. I am sorry to both of you. I like it here because unlike some boards there are not constant "wars". Just to see who has bigger balls. I couldn't understand what I did to provoke that but I misunderstood. I am sorry.

I am going to be honest because I am anonymous on here. Since he told me not to say anything about it yet. I know Branden. The truth is exactly what I said but that is how I know. Please do not call me a liar. Unless they had a completely new chip built that fast what I know is most likely true. it takes them about a year to build a new chip so they try to stay a year ahead. they are doing good for a small startup. I am glad for him.

So the thing is, if this is true I personally would not trade the specs on a 250 for the specs on a 75c. That's just me though. Maybe they surprise us and yeah I would be down with it then. What anyone else wants is entirely up to them. I am also sorry I made assumptions about color screen demographic etc. It is actually fine with me but not if it trades off the specs. We will find out soon. I personally do not think I would use replay. Since you cannot continuously use it, atty change etc. It is still the same mod. You can get the same results permanently if you are keen with Escribe. Some people do find it very difficult though. So not a feature I would dismiss for everyone, just myself. Plus the trend of larger batteries and everything is Kanthal now which does not work in TC or replay. Well, I am happy with I have and heck knows I have enough of them.

If it is a new chip I will get it. If it is what I am pretty sure about not for me. I imagine they will have no trouble selling it. Most people do want the color screen instead of the specs. I don't really care for where vaping is right now. Bigger cells and Kanthal mainly. In the video he said 80% of people do not use TC. I am not sure what the point of this then. You could get a $50 mod fine in power but sucks at TC. To me I thought it was Evoolv's selling point. Well we will see what they cook up. As I said the FinDer seems well built and since they might be first with the chip I would say probably get that one.

I was thinking about failures of abuse. Mine would only be juice never dropped. The DNA250 is completely waterproof so that can't be it. I am honestly sad all those mods failed on me and do wonder if I did something wrong.

Hey I am glad you were cool. Trust me the last thing I want is to argue here. I am sorry for the things I said.

Perhaps they weren't. I may. You're an ass. "I shit solid gold turds" is how you come off.
I both do not believe, nor really care, that you broke 49516 DNA mods. All custom, of course.
I do not believe that the 250C is an up-watt 75, nor that you are buds with anyone at Evolv.

I do believe that I know a few people like you. "I'm gonna be BMOC, I jump over burning buildings to save the school bus before it wrecks and that's before breakfast. I have a super model wife, another as a girlfriend. I hang with with all the big stars, they all look up to me cause I'm sooo with it."

Have Muffy bring the beemer around front so you can motor past the peons on your way to the fancy mod store to pick which diamond encrusted Wismec you will purchase today.

You have provided some humor with your whopping tales, but a one note act reaches its limit.

I do not see where I said anything of the sort. I did in fact say I personally had bad luck with Lost Vape and that was about it. You either took what I said out of proportion or misinterpreted it. You also have to understand part of what I said was after I figured they wanted to pick a fight. I do reserve the right to defend myself.

As for the 250C, keep waiting for it. I hope you are very pleased with it. I understand a color screen makes the Mod perform better. That is why many people want it of course.

Your depiction of me is hilarious nonetheless.

You really don't know what the hell you're talking about do you? You think the DNA 250 c is just a 3 cell 250W chip with a color screen? Lmao

The DNA250c is a 4 cell chip. It has nothing to do with the 75. It hits 400 Watts using 12.4V with 4 cells. 300 with 3 cells and 200 with 2 cells. I know this is hard to understand but please do some research before you make an ass of yourself over and over. International FW... Not explaining that again.

Did you just try to humble brag again? Nah instead you made assumptions about people's financial situations. Oh nevermind there it is. You tried to overcompensate again with a 60 custom mod claim (all $1k+ right) .

You sure do spend a lot of money to not learn anything (assuming you did, but you didn't)

Idiot. No, seriously I need some help. Can you please explain ohm's law to me in full detail? no? STFU!
Dna250C 85% efficiency, 9V maximum output. Regardless of cell count. I know you want the color screen to show your classmates.
Pixel. Loser. That says a lot about you.

Lmao. Where are you getting 9V from? You keep trying to call people out but your information is so fucked.

3 cells = in current DNA250 it is limited by evolve to 9.3V and/or 53A. With a Maximum Wattage Selection of 250. So this is where you are getting your OUTDATED number from.

The DNA250c (which is not a 250 Watt chip, nor is it a 3 cell chip) is a 400 Watt chip using 4 cells. They upped the 3 cell wattage to 300W (selectable) and 2 cell to 200W (Selectable)

But the main thing here is that it ADDS AN EXTRA CELL.

    DNA250c's 4 Cells will have a
    Max input of 16.8V
    Max Output of 12.4V

This means that it can push that extra Wattage because it has the extra A/V of the additional cell.

Also STFU about ohm's law. You act as if no one understands the fact that just because a device has the ability to do something doesn't mean we can actually build something that'll work with it. *Which plays a much bigger role more in Mechanical Mods and the limited Amperage of batteries.

VV/VW mods are completely different in this aspect. If you don't understand this go read up.

Edit: Oh and I forgot. Vanilla Android in the purest sense, on a phone developed and released by the OS developer, does say a lot about someone. Fastest, Most Secure, Non bloatware or skinned resource sucking devices made.

*Not that it has anything to do with Mods. But you failed in every other shot you took. So I mine as well explain your failure to do so with this as well.

Man are you dumb. First, that is not an official document from Evolv. Second you are talking about INPUT voltage. The output voltage of the device is 9V Forward voltage. Since it is in fact based on the 75C package. No regulated device outputs it's input lol.

I run vanilla android as well because I am a DEV. however I have a much better phone IMO. It will certainly double your benchmark on Geekbench.

*Those of us who think we know it all are especially annoying to those of us that actually do.

Read up dumbass. Input 16.8, Output 12.4... Once again I'm not talking about the output of the old chip. I'm talking about the output of the new chip.

The pic is made by companies that get the chips and design info in advanced so they can make the mods that you're going to buy 5000 of

Oh and you're a DEV now huh . So since you make ROMs (and Kernels too I assume) from AOSP you know all about the best devices right? But yet for some reason you are claiming that the best and only Androids that run stock Vanilla Android are crap . BTW flashing a rom doesn't make you a Dev lol. Your so full of bs it's truly amazing. You haven't ever said what device you have, nor pointed to anywhere where you are credited as a Dev. I'd take an unofficial port of someone else's AOSP ROM with your dev creds at this point. But they don't exist so I'm not holding my breath. So quit it with even more fake trys at humble brags. It's getting beyond pathetic. Plus we're on Vaping Underground. Not XDA so gtfooh.

I was wrong? If that is official from Evolv it states 10 Volts from a 4 cell battery. You do the math and see what resistance you need to reach 400W. It cannot accept resistance that low. OOPS. I see EJ and Obsidian in other threads regarding this. All you want is the color screen. Be honest. You will buy whatever they feed you. The Two of you are huge losers IMHO. The link you provided, sold out before ever went on sale! He does not have them! Keep waiting. I am not very impressed with this. If all you want is the color screen it is not even RGB let alone the pixel density of a S9. Yes that is what I have running stock Android that is not a port but directly from Google. Of course you cannot get this unfortunately but luckily you have a slow phone that sort of runs stock Android.

The big problem is that are indeed very nice chips any way you cut it. Where the issue lies is the junk mod's that they all go into. MadModder is also junk as well. Watch that silkscreen(laser engraving) rub off. Plus his paint chip like every Chinese Mod even though Supposedly his is made in the Us. 2800MAH? Blow me. I doubt that is a 70 Amp plus battery either. It will be ages before the very high end Stabwood Modders adopt this. Many are still on DNA40. Mostly 200 and a couple 250 out there. You guy's probably do not even own One mod like I am speaking of. I am not going to get into a pissing match. All I will say is it is you Two that have a lot of learning to do.

I will admit at least EJ is the more polite of you Two. Have a nice party. I guess I am not invited and do not care. I do not need to rock the brand new Nike's every time they come out because Nike is not a very good shoe. The chip is fine. Not the Mods. Go waste your money. I would get aVooPoo and beat the snot out of it if I could not afford $1,300++ Mod's. Alas I can. Do not need to go to this party anyways. When a high end Modder adopts it then I shall bite. They are lotteries. You probably do not even know anything about that. As I know you do not own but One such a Mod. I own many of them. I use them in my P1. Go right ahead call me a liar it is not like you are going to hurt my feelings. I am not insulted by those whom are but peon's.
