Great review. Regarding the question of whether the voltage is being read at the mod or at the resistor when measuring the voltage drop, the answer would be both locations. The circuit being measured is a simple one like the image below. Whether the voltage is read across the battery, or the resistor, the value will be the same.
I'm curious about the leads with the banana plugs and alligator clips. What's read when they are used, voltage or resistance? I'd love it if I could use them to check the resistance of a coil without having to mount it.
UPDATE: I found that the leads can be used to measure the resistance of an unmounted coil by clipping the alligator clips to each end. It can also be used to fire the coil.
