Daedalus Pro What am I doing wrong?

JUst got one of these in and so far everything is a complete fail. out of 20 attempts not one usable coil. IT goes beautifully for about an inch and then it starts bunching up. I am beyond frustrated...This works nothing like the videos. I'm going very slow. I'm also guessing I have the tension wrong on the wrap wire spool.

AHHHHHH Help please!

Gotta be the tension. Also keeping your hand in the right spot is key. Wrap wire is just under 90degrees behind to get it tight. So it kinda pushes itself if that's understandable. One on the right drags just behind. Hope that helps. You don't want super tension but not light tension either. Too light and it'll wrap back on itself

I'm confused. I though the whole point of the Daedalus is to NOT to have to use your hand or swivels unless your doing coils more complex than claptons and fused claptons. I bought this because no matter what I do I am NOT capable of making fused claptons by hand. RIght now I want to pitch it across the room.

I think you missed the Daedalus part :teehee:

Try less tension on that spring that holds the spool, though, and make sure the contraption is on a smooth surface so it can slide easily

Not sure how it sets up but I figure wire stretches across and attaches at 2 points. Then the wrap wire comes from the side like always. Guess I need to watch a video

For me it’s easier to make fused Clapton’s without the inserts. I just use the standard hole. To me the inserts seemed to make the wire twist instead of keeping it side by side. Slight tension on the spool and the wire keeping the drill in line with the swivel. Also put a better swivel on there. The one that came with it was junk. I only make around 12 inch lengths at a time. It takes some practice but once you get it you can crank it up to full speed and not have any issues. Oh forgot to mention that I straighten one piece of long wire and fold that in half at the swivel to make a dual core. Kinks in the wire will also make it bunch up. I may or may not have learned that from experience.

I swapped to my fishing ones and always find placing a little weight on the drill helps too..and yes...them inserts are harder to work with...im just a beginner...

I finally got a vapable coil. 28gx3 36g wrap. I'd been trying to use 38g for the wrap. It's going to take some more experimenting and a lot more wasted wrap.

I also shortened the length of the core wires. I'd been trying to do a 12' length as another poster mentioned. Not sure if that helped or not.

I still want to throw it across the room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does fine with 36g, but with 38g it will do fine for exactly 1 inch and the just stops and wraps up on its self. 2 core, 3 core, 4 core, 26g cores, 28g cores, 12 inch length, or 7 inch length.

I know it's tension, but why does it do beautifully for 1 inch then stop? Any tips on how to get the tension right on the spring holding the spool?

Yes it is...I'll try to move it to a different one and try again.

Have you also tried unscrewing the tension nut more and more and more? I hope this thing works for you

Yes I have. I'm leaning towards the surface of the table I'm using not being smooth enough despite my thinking it is. So I'm putting it up until I can figure out how to get a smother surface. I'll hit the hardware store this weekend. Maybe a sheet of Formica or plexi. Hell maybe some real glass..

Your claptoning wire isnt going through the groove :0

I'm also getting another idea, regarding your spool - it may have a rough spot that is catching on the apparatus and causing extra tension for a moment, thay may be causing that repeated hangup every inch

You could try smoothing any rough spots on the spool, covering it with masking tape, flipping the spool over (one of those)

DOH! I'll have to be more careful about making sure the wire is in the groove.

You might also try and use the regular adapter instead of the inserts. My fused claptons twisted and bunched up every time when I used the inserts. You can also try wire clips and use them every couple of inches to help keep the wire straight.

When I got mine the edges on the bottom of it were too sharp and sometimes would catch on the table.
I used some 400 grit sandpaper and made the edges smooth.
That was months ago and not had a problem since.

Thank you, thank you, thank you all very, very much. I was able to get two usable 4x28-38g coils. Found a board in the garage that is much smoother than the table, caught the wire NOT being in the slot before I get going and corrected that, and made sure the spool was smooth with no tape residue or anything. IT did back up twice right in the middle of the about 12" length so everything on either side was good. So I will be vaping my first home made quad core fused clapton as soon as I can get it in an RDA.

That looks good. Congrats.

Thank you. Not exactly coil porn and there's still room for improvement. We all start somewhere. They vape nice.and that's what is important. That and not pitching the Daedalus across the room.

Cool...enjoy em..im practacing aliens on the deadulus

Yeah aliens is for later down the road. Gotta get proficient with the fused clapton first. Need to get the wraps a touch tighter. Might mess with the 40g that came with the daedalus tomorrow.
