I have a Kaos Spectrum that was great when I got it. Now it feels more like an effort to pull on in. Usually I can just breathe my mods in, but this one I have to actually pull on it like it's a cigarette.

I've cleaned it, I've used different matched sets of batteries. I've increased and decreased the wattage. I've changed the tank. BTW, I'm using a Crown III, but I've been using that since I got it. It just seems as though this mod has lost its will to be vaped.

Sounds like it is time for a coil change. Coils only last a week to a month depending on usage or if they get gunked or burn't out. Put a new coil on and you will say wow! PS prime the new coil with juice first.

I've got four Crown IIIs and have tried at least three of them on it. Good coils on each. In fact changing the coils was the first thing I tried.

Oh, as an aside I've always primed the coils before using. Once I went into a vape store when first starting out and the guy said I don't need to prime them. All I had to do was turn the air off and suck in through the mouthpiece. That would draw the liquid into the coils.

Tried it once. Never trying that again. I always prime.

Try the Crown attachment on another mod if you have one, Could be the connection pins are not meeting up making contact. What does the Kaos Spectrum read for resistance?

    A couple of things.
Will only hit max wattage at between .19 and .24 ohms due to max current and max voltage limitations.
Also screen displays selected wattage not actuall running wattage.

I've tried several different crown 3s on it and consequently used the same ones on other mods. There's no problem with the tanks. One of them was bad, but I knew this already. Respectfully, I'm not a novice when it comes to time to change the coils. I've learned from trial and error how best to get them ready. For example, the cotton int he crown 3 cartridges is wound way too tight. I always rough it up with a sharp knife before using it.

Getting away from the coils, and let's just assume for a moment that nothing has changed on the mod settings. Are there case where the mods just become less efficient over time?

One of my most used and oldest mod is the Snow Wolf Version 1.5 200w. As of recently, I've noticed my batteries being uneven from time to time when I go to recharge. I have not done anything scientific to eliminate the batteries or chargers but I wouldn't be shocked if it was the mod. I'm going to try some others charges and batteries to see what I come up with.

Just to be clear ( and not insinuate it's something you don't already know )....

With the exception of the all in ones and similar mods.... ( the following doesn't apply to them as much )

A mod is the part that you put the battery ( s ) in and has a 510 or other connector for the tank or atty to attach to at the top. The 510 connection can get dirty increasing the resistance you see and requires pretty regular cleaning in order to have a good electrical connection.

As for how much "pull" the draw has... it's entirely up to the tank/atty as to how that is/feels... it has nothing to do with the mod itself. If the draw is tight... then open it's air way up ( if it's adjustable ) or check your wick to see that it doesn't have too much of it stuffed in there.

Yes, we're on the same page. My question had to do with the mod being very good a couple of months ago and now it's more like I have to put in an effort to vape on it.

My point was that the mod has nothing ( in most cases, all in ones could be an exception ) with how much effort it is to vape it.... the draw is all up to the tank/atty and how good the air flow is in it.

Then something is off. I've tried numerous known-good tanks on it and it doesn't matter which one. They all perform poorly on this mod as opposed to the other mods.

It is quite possible that something in the mod has changed/gone bad but not totally failed.
for example a failed capacitor in the DC/DC conversion circuitry would cause poor performance but would still have output.

Sounds to me like the kaos isn't producing the amount of vapor you're used to. So you're drawling harder and longer than normal.

I've never used that mod, but the first thing i would do is check the charge on my batteries, clean the connections and make sure your ohms read as they should.

Second thing i'd look at is your settings. Maybe something on the mod got changed accidentally. Does it have a power curve or soft/norm/hard setting?

I don't know. It's possible that I accidentally changed something. Typically I only modify the wattage on the mods as I don't understand any of the other settings. If I inadvertently changes something else it could be causing a problem.

maybe read through the manual and look for anything that can affect the power settings.

My girlfriend accidentally switches the power mode all the time. She's even managed to make the screen go upside down. Something i didn't know was an option lol.

Yes over time a mod with wires and chips can reduce output over time......... Things breakdown with use... It's called wear and tear.

In addition, my regular maintenance on my mods is to clean the 510 connection with a Q-Tip and some 90% Isopropyl, once a week. A dirty connection can cause false readings, thus the mod doesn't adjust the power output accordingly.

Another thing to conisder many mods only display the selected wattage not the actual wattage being produced.

In my past experience some regulated mods will have issues.

Here are is a list of things that happen to some mods of mine over the years.

    Will no longer turn on

Wattage will not go up or down

USB port came apart, the insides came loose or the clip came off

Will not fire at all but everything else works

    510 connection came loose

Actually in 3 years of vaping I have only had problems with 2 mods.
One was junk anyway a $10 clearance Geyscano Squonker that quit in 2 days.
And a Kanger Dripbox 2 that I dropped and broke the firing switch. No more clicky. Can fix it though, just need to order the tactile switch and solder it in.
Still using a Kanger Kbox mini for over 2.5 years. And several others for up to 2 years.

Had the worst experiences with HotCig products, 3 different mods failed in a short time

Most seem to not like kanger mods but I have excellent luck with them. But I have mainly focused on the single battery ones.
Not so sure about their high powered mods as to durability and such.

I just want other people's opinion and experience with it. You can't really get a grasp of that by just asking one person. After all this site is what it is for.

They are pretty decent mods. Mine was good and is now serving a new owner well. I was just teasing as I clicked through 5 threads and saw the same question. Good on you for doing your research.
