ARE ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES A GATEWAY TO DRUGS

new%20england%20journal%20of%20medicine.jpg

Today, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine states that simply by using an electronic cigarettes I may be on my way to c*caine addiction. This sounds absolutely crazy if you ask me.

The study that was conducted says that anyone who may be using e-cigs is preparing their brain for future drug abuse. What they found was simply that most people who had previously had a drug abuse problem had started their careers with nicotine usage or cigarettes to be exact.

Dr. Eric Kandel of Columbia University admitted that although many of the dangers of cigarettes are eliminated by using electronic cigarettes, no one had mentioned the effects on the brain and what effects there might be from e-cig use.

The research was conducted on a group of mice that were given a dosage of nicotine and after they exhibited more symptoms of addiction to ccaine. The same held true when the mice were given the same dosage without burning the tobacco.

Kandel was quoted as saying “Electronic Cigarettes have the same physiological effects on the brain and may pose the same risk of addiction to other drugs as regular cigarettes, especially in adolescence during a critical period of brain development.”

It was also said that although there is no definitive research proving that e-cigs are in fact a gateway to traditional tobacco cigarettes or illegal drugs that it was certainly a possibility. Did you hear the word possibility? It is also possible that I will fly to Pluto tonight, but not likely.

They also wrote that nicotine clearly does have the infamous “gateway effect”, and that devices like electronic cigarettes can possibly facilitate such an effect.

According to the WHO (World Health Organization) e-cigs are now a 3 billion dollar industry and growing with an estimated 466 brands offering all sorts of flavors and other products for purchase by the general public.

Denise Kandel, who is the wife of Eric Kandel who was also part of this research found that the amount of ccaine addiction was tied directly to the people who had begun smoking first. This means that the people who were addicted to nicotine before ccaine suffered with addiction far greater than those who had not smoked first.

First off, most people who are using electronic cigarettes did not start with them. They suffered from the clutches of addiction to cigarettes first brought on by all the chemicals that the oh so nice tobacco companies put in them. They were so nice to give us all those free chemicals, and we did not even have to ask for them.

Secondly, to debunk what they are saying, I would have to assume that all of the smoking cessation products such as the Nicotrol Inhaler, gum, and patches are also gateways to ccaine but you do not hear them mentioned in any of the research. I wonder why this is. Nicotine is also used in pesticides so I guess you better steer clear of those too unless you want to become a future junkie. Did you also know that nicotine is found in potatoes, tomatoes, green peppers, and the cocoa plant? So watch out next time you are out to dinner. You may just order the wrong dish, and become an instant drug addict.

It seems to me that these are just attempts to make electronic cigarettes look bad. The same types of things were done before the prohibition of mrijuana. SCARE TATICS. They seemingly bring out all these horror stories right around the time that regulation is in full swing. I personally do not believe the hype.

Electronic cigarettes are somewhat anti-addiction. The whole reason for using them is to break away from nicotine addiction. You start at either 18 or 24 mg of nicotine a wean yourself off gradually. Then before you know it, like magic, no more nicotine addiction. Now I know this is not the case for every e-cig user, but for the most part this is their intended purpose.

If you really want to get down to the “grass roots” of the issue the tobacco companies are the ones who need a new found regulation. They are the #1 cause for nicotine addiction in the first place. I guess money talks, and you know the rest.

One thing that I cannot stand is unsubstantiated research meant to scare the general public. If you really think that electronic cigarettes are a means by proxy for c*caine addiction then I am writing this just for you. Electronic cigarettes have been nothing but a blessing in my life. One that was my choice. If I used ccaine that would also be my choice. I would not blame that on a completely different substance just so I could play the blame game.

In conclusion, Electronic cigarettes are not a gateway to anything but quitting smoking regular cigarettes. Thanks Electronic cigarettes!!

So, vaping "apparently" leads to drugs, plus this same "assuming" pic, therefore vaping leads to being gay.

100% of people who drink water, end up dying. BAN WATER!!

I hate politics, but especially hate vague propaganda like this. Anything to get a leg up on the competition.

something interesting. Since I started vaping I have quit smoking more than just cigarettes. My consumption has decreased to almost nothing. So much for that theory up there.

That old canard again... I think the best thing to do with such outrageous study is to follow the trail of money from the author(s) to whoever stands to profit the most from the study.

This said, electronic cigarettes *can* be gateway to drugs: sport. As you stop smoking and you get your breath back, you start getting into sport, which can be an addiction - not to mention doping of course.

There, I've just demonstrated a real link between e-cigs and drugs. Ain't I clever? :)

Well, maybe I shouldn't say this but... Well, vaping sort of got me back smoking "other things". But only once.

What I mean is, when I was a teen many many years ago, I used to smoke pot every once in a while. Not really regularly, but when I was with the right friends at the right time. Ya know, just to chill out. The stuff we used to smoke was home-grown, and rather weak by today's standards. But that was plenty strong enough for me, to slow down and mellow out.

When I got into vaping seriously, I discovered you could buy certain types of atomizers, designed to vaporize certain types of oils that are available in a certain country not far from where I currently live.

So I tried it, 25 years after having smoked my last joint.

All I can say is, it was violent, much too strong and wholly unpleasant. 3 hits and I put it away because I felt like crap.

Clever.
Everything they are saying is true, but it's only half of the truth...
The number one contributing factor to death it's being born in the first place.
The number one factor in car accidents is driving.
You can literally say what they said about anything.
One big thing they leave out is the psychological factors of addiction. People that try ANY addictive substance are already predisposed to try another.

Idiots.

The sad part is, people will believe that these results are actually significant.

Vaping leads to drugs in the same sense that virgins lead to venereal disease
