Ever charged a 3.7v battery at 7.4v? I have. Once.

Thinking back to when I was a kid, we had a bunch of electric rc cars. The onboard battery pack for the servos and receiver consisted of a 4AA battery sled, containing nicad's (cause NiMH and lion hadn't been invented yet, lol). The motor that turned the wheels was powered by a separate nicad battery pack containing a variety of c-cells.

One day while in my basement I plugged the 4aa battery sled in to the charger, spun the mechanical timer dial to 15min, and went upstairs to use the washroom. What I didn't notice was that the toggle switch on the charger had been bumped and was set to 7.4v, not 3.7.

A few moments later I heard what sounded like someone firing a 12ga shotgun directly below me.

I returned downstairs to find the charger, timer still ticking away, with no battery sled attached to it.

Eventually, I found all 4 hollow, empty, battery tubes (all missing their tops), and the battery sled shrapnel spread across a 40' diameter.

...so if you're ever looking for a fun way to recycle your old batteries...

...kidding.

Respect those chemical reactions we're all walking around carrying folks. :)
